The Last of Us: Part II (2020)
Best of all time
No other game is even close in terms of story, immersion, actual empathy and emotional journey. In comparison, other games feel like they just use cheap decorations on top of the gameplay.
Story is extremely engaging, interesting, with plenty of unexpected twists and emotional moments, often better than on great movies.
Gameplay is excellent, often challenging but perfectly balanced. Controls are spot on, motion is extremely fluid, characters animations all perfectly flow from one to another, characters seamlessly grab items and open doors, the attention to detail is insane.
Graphics are spectacular, game is expertly designed, always a pleasure to look at, it keeps generating epic scenery. Highly recommended to play on PS5 in 60fps.
I really can't recall any other game (maybe uncharted is somewhat close, or the first lou is obviously very close but not much else) that would actually make you care about the characters and everything going on.
It's a perfect adventure.
The game is pretty big, if you're exploring and reading everything then it takes many many hours, it's big, but after getting invested into it you just can't get enough.
Can't wait for the next part.
Patriot (2015)
THE BEST SHOW
AMAZING! The first episode and I'm hooked. Instantly! This is absolutely the best show (at least in this genre and the whole spy theme) out there! If you're watching a lot of shows, this just breaks every trope, keeps surprising you and avoiding cliches. It's extremely entertaining, it flawlessly balances excellent humor with tragic drama and cool action. Oh the action is superb, those oners and overall it just gives this sense of presence. John's songs are lots of fun, not something you see often (or at all).
Characters are interesting, performances are all awesome, the situations they find themselves in are truly HILARIOUS! Feels like it was made by Cohen brothers but on steroids.
It's top notch!
If I were nitpicking, I'd say the plot is sometimes a bit hard to follow I guess, that's it.
I feel like the more stuff you've seen before, the more you'd appreciate it. People who don't watch shows often, may not appreciate how different this is.
Such a pity they cancelled it, I would love to see season 3 so much. Is there a petition to sign?
2067 (2020)
Boring and stupid
The trailer makes you expect to see a thrilling sci-fi but instead for most of that movie's runtime all that futuristic setting just serves as a background for a blunt and boring melodrama where people wine and sort out their relationships.
The plot is full of holes and unpolished, it feels like they couldn't decide whether to go for the Predestination-style paradox or multiple branches of reality or treat time as one straight line.
SPOILERS AHEAD:
That whole body thing makes absolutely no sense 'cause if he went to the future and then went back and died then he couldn't ever find his body in the first place, there couldn't have been two instances of himself if the time is a line and he went into the future (not past), however if it isn't then we can't have immediate changes to the present as we do in the end..
What was the father's point of making this wrist device? Why couldn't anyone just kill the kid and use his blood to run the machine? Or tie the kid, take him to the machine anytime and do the blood test against his will? And if the machine is locked on him, how do they use it throughout the movie without him?
Why nobody from the old video aged at all? Getting less oxygen makes them live longer or what the hell?
It seemed initially like the father has set it up to get his wife killed (why would he ask her to go out?) but then it turned out the fat boss lady did? but why, so she could raise him? Besides, the friend-dude was in the building when the call happened, wasn't he? how did he get there so quickly to attack the mom, did he go right after?
There are movies which after watching make you question everything, wonder, make up theories, look for clues online, watch all these breakdown videos to find new details because they were so clever that you couldn't quite grasp everything. 2067 isn't like that, instead it's badly written that it makes you question your decision to go see a thing before there's any rating consensus, or go find and expose all the mistakes the creators made.
Cinematography and CGI looks pretty good sometimes, all of that is responsible for the majority of a 5 star rating, however the rest of the movie is just too bad, the visuals alone aren't enough.
When I went to the theater there was no IMDB rating yet, on my way out of the theater I figured this'll get 5.7 max, yet it's even lower now, which makes perfect sense.
Conclusion: if I had that chronicle time machine, I'd go back in time to prevent myself from watching this movie.
