Saving Christmas (2014)
I personally enjoyed it and here's why-
I get it. Atheists trolling the IMDb message boards don't like the movie (though it seems more than half of them never actually took the time to watch it). I did. Here's what I discovered: as someone who's had a bad attitude toward Christmas, this film was able to turn my attitude around. I understand the real meaning behind so the Christmas traditions, like Santa and the Christmas tree (they're not based in materialism). The film was funny and I loved that the filmmakers made a unique film that isn't just like the other formulaic material Hollywood mass produces.
I enjoyed Saving Christmas and am glad I watched it this Christmas!
I Believe in Unicorns (2014)
Interesting film, but at what expense?
The film is beautiful and innovative, though I couldn't help but feel disturbed that the parents of the 16 year old actress allowed her to be in scenes where she's so graphically raped and sexualized. I literally felt just as disturbed and distracted by this as I was affected by the film itself.
This could be because I know people who were sexually abused as children, and I've worked with child actors who later look back at that graphic kind of exposure and ultimately see it as detrimental to them and their lives. I think it's unfortunate and premature to expose a such a young actor to this.
