Rambo (2008)
Comedy?
This is a comedy, right? One dimensional characters with stupid dialogue. I honestly felt bad for the actors forced to say this stuff.
And then any time there is any fighting, it's like a video game with absolutely no attempt at making it realistic. People's heads explode. Rambo is bullseyeing people through the skull with a bow andnareor from hundreds of feet. At one point he ends up behind a massive gumnandnkills about 300 people in just a bloody ridiculous fight scene. Not one of the bad guys thinks of running away. Nope. They instead charge straight for the guy with a massive gun who is protected from bullets from the front. No one thinks to attack him from behind either.
The Conners: What's So Funny About Peas, Love and Understanding? (2023)
Math all wrong
Darlene is considering quiting a manager position, which must pay more than 80k. Why? So she can become a lunch lady at a college to get Mark free tuition. The lunch lady job has to pay more like 30k a year. That's a 50k difference. (I'm guessing at the numbers but they seem about right.) So it doesn't make sense for her to switch to the lunch lady job for free tuition because she would have had enough money to pay for the tuition with her manager job.
That's not to mention scholarships and loans that Mark would be able to get. There's no reason he'd have to pay for the complete tuition and room and board.
So, what I'm saying is this story makes no sense and the writers should be ashamed.
Abbott Elementary: Juice (2022)
Not good
This is NOY a good episode. Some minor juice issue causes everyone to have to pee constantly for an entire day and somehow destroy the bathrooms. It's only 2 more ounces of juice!
The b plot wasn't very good either. Basically one of the teachers has an aid who has ADHD and is distracting the entire classroom and not teaching anything. But somehow by the end the classs she becomes the perfect aid. Which makes little to no sense.
I guess the problem is this episode is very cringe and doesn't make any sense. It felt insulting to my intelligence and any other person watching it. The writers should be ashamed.
Home Economics (2021)
Very formulaic
This show is a pretty formulaic sitcom. If you have ever seen a sitcom before, almost none of this will be surprising or particularly funny. But it might make good background noise while you do something that uses more of your brain, like washing the dishes or sweeping the floor.beverythong in it feels recycled from earlier better sitcoms.
That said, it's not outright bad. It just doesn't shine at all. It's very bland.
Lupe is a pretty fun character, but she gets very little screen time. The kids are too young to do much., let alone be very funny. The main actors are all pretty good actors with comedy backgrounds, but they aren't particularly funny in this.
Home Economics: Workout Leggings, $29 (2022)
Hard to watch this one
Two very in shape women complain about being out of shape. The writers know that the viewers of the show have eyeballs, right? We can literally see how much muscle these women have.
One of the other plots is the Tom and his sister, who's name I can never remember, writing a musical. This plot is okay, but I feel like they make it sound like writing the music isn't an important part of writing a musical. Bad music will totally ruin it, as will mediocre music.
I guess some people will like watching the kids seeing offkey at the end. I was less appreciative of this scene as it hurt my ears and felt pandering.
Kitchen Nightmares: Max's (2023)
Divorced couple
This episode is about a divorced couple who are in charge of a restaurant. The ex-wife owns the place but she seems pretty disorganized. The ex-husband is the chef but he burns hotdogs all the time. Hotdogs! And the ex-husband's girlfriend works their too. Not to surprisingly, she doesn't get along with the owner, her boyfriend's ex-husband.
On top of all that the owner owns more than a million dollars. I suspect a lot of that is from a loan to buy this place from whoever previously owned it.
They spend 40 minutes setting up the conflict then at the End everything is supposedly magically solved. I don't believe it. Either someone is going to get fired or the restaurant is going bankrupt.
Lucy (2014)
Ripoff of Akira
The idea of this movie is great. It's basically make an American version of Akira, only live action. In practice it isn't very good. The director or editor didn't trust the film to be understandable,no they keep cutting in scenes to explain what is going on. For example showing the bad guys and predators and Lucy as prey. This was totally unnecessary and an insult to the viewer.
The ending...was dumb. Akira did it better. I could have done better and I'm just some random idiot on the Internet.
The science was bad. It would have been better not to explain what was happening then have the stuff Morgan Friedman said. It was eye-rollingly dumb. It felt like it was there to make the movie longer and because they thought the audience was too dumb to not be spoon fed.
Kitchen Nightmares: South Brooklyn (2023)
Frustrating
This was a frustrating episode because of how it ends.
The main bulk of this episode is a woman and a man co-own a restaurant. She has taken on debt to keep it afloat. He has taken a 70k salary. The guy, also the chef, keeps making food that gets sent back and he's slow. This is of course making customers irrate and hungry, so it's hurting the restaurant.
About halfway through the episode the chef gets forced out. Great. Chef Ramsey brings in a few experts to carry the kitchen until new people are hired. Sounds good, right? Nope. She just hires back the same mediocre chef as before. Basically the restaurant is doomed.
Kitchen Nightmares: El Cantito (2023)
The overconfident chef
The story of this restaurant is pretty simple. The chef liked his grandma's recipes. But he doesn't have any practical experience so he can't pull them off in the kitchen. As a result his cooking isn't very good and people don't like the food.
To make matters worse, at the beginning of the episode he doesn't properly cook the chicken. Some people literally ate bloody chicken. That's pretty awful and could get someone sent to the hospital or worse.
There isn't a ton of drama in this particular episode. The chef is overconfident but not arrogant. The rest of the staff are all nice enough people. The only real question on my kind as I watched it was whether the restaurant would survive for a year after Ramsey left.
Kitchen Nightmares: Love Bites (2023)
Boyfriend and girlfriend fighting
There is a lot of tension in this episode. The chef, owner, and boyfriend is just a horribly grumpy mess in the kitchen. He seems to hate cooking and yells at everyone around him. His girlfriend gets the brunt of it. To make it worse he's been stringing her a long for 6 years and she is very sick. I have no idea why she is working in a restaurant other than guilt. I think the restaurant would run better without her because the chef would have to learn to talk to his staff politely.
The happy ending is a bit too fast at the end because it feels like the chef just can't change himself that quickly. Pretty sure he'll just slip back into his regular personality the second Gordon's calming presence is gone.
Kitchen Nightmares: Juicy Box (2023)
Owners drinking on the job
This is a variation on the basic plot where the owner drinks on the job. This is the main conflict on this episode. Because of the drinking he's been taking things easy. The restaurant is run down really bad, like I can't recall another restaurant that was in such bad shape. I assume this is because the restaurant is so behind on their bills. The owner's dad is giving them money so I don't know why they don't make the basic repairs. Even after seeing the whole episode I don't really understand why they had such huge problems with maintenance with the dad's help.
The restaurant actually looked like a tasty place to eat.
As an episode there really wasn't enough conflict, at least for this kind of show. It felt a bit like Gordon hanging out with the people and giving them some functioning tools. It wasn't the worst episode ever but nothing particularly memorable.
Ninja Cheerleaders (2008)
High quality trash
Is this movie something you'd ever recommend to a friend? Well, maybe if they were a horny twenty something or a huge lover of George Takei. But the plot is about as dumb as you'd expect.
That said, the story actually makes sense, which beats most of the movies of this caliber. Also, the girls are reasonably good actors, which probably explains why they have gotten other acting roles, though not a lot.
None of the main stars get naked. There is some random nudity, but far from a lot.
The fights are pretty mediocre. About the level of something on the CW only with fewer explosions.
The characters actually had motivations and backstories which, again, is pretty nice for a movie like this.
Kitchen Nightmares: Da Mimmo (2023)
The boys
This restaurant is owned by a mom of 3 boys. She seems pretty nice but is over her head. The three sons can be broken down like the following.
Anakin PizzaCooker: this son seems genuine and hard working. He looks like Anakin Skywalker but talks with some kind of Italian accent. He has no formal training in the kitchen.
The two bozos: I'm sorry but the other two boys are clowns who seem to just be mooching off the mother. They could help around the restaurant but they are having too much fun making just the dumbest jokes you ever hear. Not corny jokes. Not old jokes. Just dumb jokes that only drunk morons would find funny.
There's also a chef in the back of the restaurant. She seems like she was a good chef but is now totally burned out.
For the episode there is plenty of conflict but let me tell you that I'm glad I don't work there!
Kitchen Nightmares: In the Drink (2023)
Deluded owner
There are a few basic plots to Kitchen Nightmares. This episode follows the deluded owner plot. It's hard to tell if it's because of editing or if he is really like that. Either way it isn't anything particularly new. On the other hand, Chef Ramsey spends quite a while arguing with the guy, trying to get him to wake up which is pretty fun to watch. Or frustrating depending on how you feel about such things, because the owner doesn't seem to learn.
There's also so poor burned out guy working in the kitchen who seems on the verge of passing out. Poor guy.
I don't know if it's worth mentioning, but all the waitresses on this episode are very pretty. Some people might want to watch just for that.
Kitchen Nightmares: Bask 46 (2023)
Chef with inflated ego
This episode was much better than the preceding one. The episode followed the pretty standard system, but the arrogant chef made it mare interesting. It wasn't at Amy's Bakery level, but can anyone ever really expect that again?
Even though the chef was a dash a flavor, it was a recipe we have seen many times before: a struggling restaurant with an arrogant overpayed chef. So that's why I couldn't give the episode a perfect score. I'll probably keep watching a few more episodes, in the hopes of finding some real gold.
Anyone notice that the veins on Chef Ramsey's arms are just popping? Is his body fat super low? Does he lift super heavy weight? Does making the perfect scrambled eggs give one super powers?
Kitchen Nightmares: Bel Aire (2023)
Meh
I was pretty excited to watch this. I was wondering what kind of crazy situation would Ramsey find himself in. But it was all just bog standard. It felt like AI had seen previous episodes and just added on all the usual stuff to this episode. The owners don't get along, except they mostly do. The food is gross! It gets fixed. The menu is too long! Ramsey shortens it. Ramsey tries to make the waitress laugh. She chuckles nervously. The kitchen is dirty. They clean it. Also Ramsey gives them a whole bunch of expensive free stuff.
There wasn't a single thing in this episode which stood out. I expect that in the middle of the season but episode 1! After a long hiatus! What the heck is going on?
Slave Girls from Beyond Infinity (1987)
Love or hate
You'll either love or hate this movie.
The plot: it's ripped off from a classic story you may have been forced to read in school
The acting: so bad.
The special effects: really bad even for the time
The script: actually pretty good. Unfortunately the actors and actresses are all pretty awful and more often than not deliver the lines badly.
The eye candy: if you like looking at nearly naked or mostly naked women, then you'll probably love this. If you don't, then this movie will make you quite unhappy. I'd guess 80% of the movie is scenes of women who are dressed in what effectively are bikinis.
The direction: mediocre.
The music: better than you'd probably expect, but nothing truly amazing.
One Piece: Tell No Tales (2023)
Hard to get through
I found this episode very hard to get through. It was painfully obvious what was going on. The whole function of this episode is to set up the next episode. The next episode is great. But this episode is just one massive cliché. There was more than one moment when I just had to skip through some scenes because they were way too predictable and cringe. Which isn't a great combination.
What did I like about this episode? The characters. What did I hate? The plot.
There was some interesting stuff going on the the B and C plot, but the A plot was just awful in the extreme. Still, I'd recommend just powering through this episode so you can watch the rest of the show which is quite good.
Castlevania: Nocturne: Freedom Was Sweeter (2023)
Pretty good but...
The story would be interesting, but for me too many things held back this episode.
First, a long flashback. It would have been finenif it were shorter or the main plot has progressed more since the last flashback.
Second, too much singing. Every time a character started to sing, I started pushing the skip button. I was totally not into it.
In the mean time, the story isn't progressing except at a snails pace. The characters spend all their time at some house in the woods, but somehow they rarely get followed there.
The main villains don't seem as interesting this time around as in the original show. Just seen evil for evils sake. So called 'stupid evil'
