Most westerns take place in the west, but this film shows the start of the journey. The Civil War is raging and the draft is forcing young men to join the fight. The ones who won't fight, must avoid being captured and forced into the war. One family, who has already lost a boy to the war, decide to hide and protect their only other son and send him west. On his journey, he falls in with a ragtag group of boys who are also about to head west. They decide to team up and help each other out, or at least, it starts out that way.
Jeff Bridges is brilliant as always and heads the cast in this great story of trying to survive. The movie is definitely worth a watch.
