Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker (2006)
Alex Rider rocks!
I saw this movie as it has already been released here (UK & Ireland) since 21 July (tho Australia is due to get it in September and the States not until October!) and I enjoyed it very much! Ewan McGregor has to be the coolest Uncle ever! Alex Pettyfer did a very good job of keeping the movie flowing as the main character Alex Rider, our reluctant teenage super-spy! There's an amazing martial arts sequence (choreographed by Donnie Yen, I believe!) that kicks things into high gear and Alex doesn't slow down at all (pretty much) for the rest of the movie! 90 minutes of fun and non-stop action. I enjoyed Alicia Silverstone's turn as the housekeeper. She and Missi Pyle also get a kick-ass fight sequence! Mickey Rourke does a decent job as the psycho villain intent on wreaking his revenge on thousands of school children throughout the UK all because he was bullied in school by the person who became the PM (as played by the ever-funny Robbie Coltrane! V. strange not seeing him with a big beard and a bush of hair that he's usually hiding behind as the lovable Hagrid in the Harry Potter movies!) Definitely worth a look for all you Alex Rider fans out there! And good, clean family fun for those who aren't familiar with Anthony Horowitz's book series (currently 6 plus a Gadgets file!)
Captain Scarlet (2005)
New Captain Scarlet rules!
I was pleasantly surprised recently to stumble across this TV series as I was a fan of the original and am glad that the characters can now do so much more in the CGI format. The new stories are great. I bought the series 1 box set on DVD and enjoy watching and re-watching my favorite episodes! This box set only covers the first 13 episodes which aired on UK TV in 2005, but am hoping that the series 2 box set will be available before too long as they finished airing in November of 2005. I regret having missed seeing those episodes at the time as we do get that channel over here in Ireland. The DVD has some decent bonus features... I recommend checking it out! Any true Captain Scarlet/Gerry Anderson fan owes it to themselves! Cheers!
