The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
Massive waste of time
Jessica Biel looks good, the acting is relatively ok and the opening scenes were quite nice and showed potential. The three things that this movie does right. One star for each and I'm being lenient because it made me laugh on two occasions. Never scared me or even made me feel uncomfortable though, which is a shame because this is what the original does better than pretty much any other movie.
Lurking Fear (1994)
Horrible
Really not much to say about this. If you're expecting anything remotely Lovecraftian, you'll be very, very disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good "bad" movie and this wasn't an exception, but the Lovecraft connection messed everything up. Felt like watching two different movies that had nothing to do with each other. Too bad, because the original short story would make an amazing horror movie.
Halloween (2018)
Pretty good, given the circumstances
Let's be real, you could never create something as powerful and memorable as the original Halloween in 2018 (or maybe you could, but it'd be a massive commercial flop). While this movie wasn't something special, as a fan of the original Halloween who never really liked any of the sequels, I was pretty happy with the final result. My only complaints, way too much blood and gore, which always makes a movie cheesy, and way too many characters, making it hard to actually care about them like in the original. 8/10 which would be a 6 or 7 if it wasn't a Halloween movie.
The Butterfly Ball (1977)
Great Stuff...
...But only if you approach it as a live music show. I honestly didn't even understand that this was considered a movie, from what I've read Roger Glover was furious when he realised that someone put all those weird cutscenes over the actual live performance, which would be more than enough on its own. If you expect to see a movie while watching this you'll be disappointed, but the music is definitely a 10/10.
Good Will Hunting (1997)
Amazing
Surprised to see so many people disliked this one. Personally, as a guy who just enjoys watching a movie, this is exactly what I like to see. I couldn't care less if it's unrealistic or if the plot is obvious and you can guess the ending about an hour before it happens. This is a masterpiece, at least in my tiny and unimpressive brain.
Friday the 13th (1980)
Could be so much better...
This is a movie that promises a lot but delivers just the basics. There's lots of blood, some creepy moments and it certainly makes you feel quite uncomfortable when it's close to the end. I guess that's perfect for a slasher film, but it really isn't enough to make a good movie. Friday the 13th is basically a bloodier version of Halloween but without that incredible atmosphere that made Halloween so special. It's still decent though and of course, a must-watch for horror fans.
