Outreau: Un cauchemar français (2024)
Injustice
While the subject is gut wrenching and heinous, the trial was interesting. I didn't know who or what to believe.
The step father who sniffed his stepdaughters' crotches after their showers to "make sure they were clean" is child abuse in itself! He got no sentence, although his wife later divorced him...
These children WERE traumatized. The parents let them down, the community let them down, the lawyers and the courts let them down.
Will there be a follow-up later when these children are adults? There's a reason why there shouldn't be a statute of limitations in regards to child abuse cases.
Good Grief (2023)
Good movie
The talented Dan Levy put a lot of work into this movie. He did the writing, directing, producing and acted in every scene! Many props for that.
I did love the locations, especially the Christmas scenes. The art work was fabulous, the music was just right. I also loved the ending. But something was off. I'm not quite sure if it was the dialogue and/or the acting but I didn't care about the characters as much as I wanted to. They did seem self absorbed and yes, spoiled.
While there were some very beautiful moments, all in all, just didn't ring truthful all the way.
Would I watch it again? Probably not. But I do admire Levy so much.
Betrayal: The Perfect Husband (2023)
Karma will get you every time
Interesting, well thought out series of horrendous betrayal by a sexual predator.
Imagine if you came home and your husband of seven years is charged with sexual assault of a minor! He's a teacher of the year winner, twice. Not only was his wife, his friends, his faculty members and students knew the level of his depravity. Then his wife finds his emails, messenger and phone texts of over 60 affairs with women, former students and grooming of current students.
Spencer Herron spent only 5 years in prison with 15 years to be on probation. He has shown zero remorse, no accountability for his actions and will undoubtedly do this again. He is a menace.
I feel sorry for his ex-wife, his children, and the student he sexually assaulted. She showed a lot of courage coming forward. The last episode of her speaking about child sexual abuse made me cry.
And by the way, Acworth is a small town of around 22,000, close to Marietta, GA then Atlanta.
I wish Jennifer & Rachael all the best.
The Pharmacist (2020)
Gob Bless Danny Schneider!
Watched this in one sitting, Labor Day 2023, on Netflix.
This was a dramatic documentary that speaks the truth about the opioid addiction. It follows the Schneider family who try to solve their son's drug murder in the 9th Ward of Louisiana. Then it shows the heroism of the one witness and what she had to deal with. From there to the corrupt doctor running a pill mill. Then to the major manufacturer of OxyContin: Perdue Pharma.
After watching this series, It makes you want to do anything to help stop the drug epidemic here in our country. Now to tackle the fentanyl scourge!
It's heartbreaking. But we all can make a difference.
The Bear (2022)
Great dialogue!
On episode 6 but so far I love it! Not sure why they don't call it "The Beef". And why does Rich always have dirty fingernails being a cook? Also, not crazy about the sister's name, "Sugar". But the acting, writing, storyline is very good! Can't wait for season 2!
When We Were Bullies (2021)
Why do kids pick on those vulnerable and different
Loved it! Thoughtful and insightful. Really made me think how and why children are bullied and how easy bullies go along with the taunting. I really wanted Dick to get in on the discussions. But it was ok that he didn't.
Would like to see more of this film maker's work.
I'll Be Gone in the Dark (2020)
Writer's Quest for Justice
After the first episode, I had nightmares. I have not read Michelle McNamara's book but plan to in the future.
Around episode 5, I just cried. I knew what was going to happen yet cried anyway.
After the finale I'm still amazed the Golden State Killer wasn't arrested until almost 40 years! I wonder about his family. How was his relationship with his wife? Didn't she suspect? How will his daughters cope, knowing what a monster he is.
Most of all, I'm so very sorry for his 50+ rape and murdered victims and their families.
The Weight of Gold (2020)
It's ok to not be ok
While we're all missing out on this year's Summer Olympics due to Covid-19, this documentary is well needed.
I never knew there was such a thing as "Olympic Blues" but it makes sense that it would happen.
I hope they can all get the help that is needed. I wonder how the rest of the world deals with mental health for their athletes.
Wonderful documentary; it really makes you think.
Harriet (2019)
Extraordinary!
Wonderful biography of Harriet Tubman! While she was only 5 feet tall she managed to not only escape slavery but to go back dozens of time to free family members, friends, strangers. Amazing. She lead a Union army to free another 750 during the civil war! What an amazing woman.
Great direction, acting, especially Cynthia Erivo! Talented British actor AND singer who sang the ending credit song: "Stand Up."
To the folks that gave this film a 1, I wonder what you've ever done to right a wrong or are you part of the problem?
