The Notebook (2004)
Simply stunning
There are 101 pages of reviews of this film, so why write another one??
Well cause its Jan 2012, and tonight a fourteen year old girl sat with her dad and watched this film for the first time. She isn't a 'cryer' as such, in fact she hardly ever cry's whilst watching films, this one she did. More than that, when I asked what she thought she simply put her hand to her throat and mumbled the words... 'hard to breathe'! This film will leave you finding it hard to breathe.. it's simply that good. Ryan and Racheal are good.. but for me young Mr Garner steals the show.. he is what makes the film for me.. his reading of the story is breathtaking.. and there is one line that has stayed with me since the very first time I heard it... "well thanks doc, you know what they say, science goes only so far, and then comes God.."
If you haven't seen this film yet please, please take the time... my little girl was stunned by how good it was and she is very critical at times.
As for me.... twentieth time of watching.. and dad still cried at the end..
Over the Hedge (2006)
Very clever movie with some cutting lines about how we live
I am not someone that can go to a movie and not get involved in the film. If it's a film that makes your cry, well I'll be the first to do so.. I was the first to laugh out loud when we watched Over The Hedge! Totally funny movie, totally one of the best this year for the kids and a MUST BUY ON DVD film, which is not something I say a lot. Willis is brilliant, as is Steve Carell, but then you really can't fault any of the voices, all of them worked fine for me. I can't write fancy reviews, no long words, great long sentences, but how many words to do kids needs when they tell you, "can we go see that film again dad.. PLEEEASSSEEEE", to me that's all the review I need.
Nanny McPhee (2005)
Very good, very clever, will take all my kids to see it
Just watched this film on my own, and will be getting the wife to take all 3 of our girls (6,8 & 11) to see it next week. If you aren't into fairy tales, aren't into soppy endings, aren't into simple plots that don't need the help of a computer every second or two, and if you aren't into wonderful family films, well .. you'll hate this film. Loved Emma Thompson, pulled off the Nanny with ease, Colin was as ever brilliant. Kelly Mcdonald as Evangelene is the Princess who gets her prince, and stunning she is too.
Can't see this film being the biggest box office hit of all time, but I can see it becoming a Christmas favourite with the kids.
Numb3rs (2005)
Can't wait for the new Series
I was sent this by a good friend in the US, only way we can get it here in the UK, and man was I pleased... I loved maths in school and always wondered about taking it further, one can only hope that this series will inspire those who are at that place in their lives to go ahead and do so. As I saw in an interview one of the cast gave.. 'this show makes maths sexy'!
If I have one gripe it's that the very funny one liners, interaction between the two brothers and the dad at the end of almost every episode is not made more of. These three really are wonderful together, although I suppose one could put Judd with anyone and he would make them look good. If they take the whole maths thing to the limit, and beyond at times, do we care, well not me... I only stand in awe that there are people out there that can actually do this stuff. Bring on the next series
Threat Matrix (2003)
Watched 14 episodes and loved them.
I think that before anyone starts rubbishing this series as being over the top, nationalistic rubbish they might want to think about one thing. What if what we see in these episodes, or similar is actually happening each day in the USA? I mean if it is, and the US Gov certainly ain't going to be announcing it on TV if it is, then I think it paints a whole new picture on this series! Whilst some of the episodes may be a little near the edge, I think many of them show us a world that we don't want to face. A world were individuals rights are infringed, liberties taken away at a whim, and people falsely accused of things they never did. All this because a few guys flew some planes into a building ( a fact that is actually mentioned in one Ep.) I think this is a great idea and I only hope it can take off again some day.
