Beyond Paradise (2023)
Still the same Humphrey
I loved Death in Paradise. I loved Kris Marshall in DiP, having previously loved his stint in My Family. So, of course, I watched this spin off of DiP. The story following on from DS
Humphrey leaving to follow his heart and not lose Martha. I was pleasantly surprised, although not really as I knew it would be just as good, that it has the same vibe as DiP. I still like Humphrey's quirkiness (something Kris Marshall is very good at) and the new characters are very good. I cannot understand, though, some comments disliking Martha. I think her and Humphrey get on very well and are very well matched. She takes Humphrey's quirkiness in her stride and balances him out. Would thoroughly recommend anyone who wants a light hearted crime show, with a touch of humour thrown in.
George Gently: Gently in the Cathedral (2012)
Martin Shaw is brilliant
I watched Inspector George Gently solely because of Martin Shaw. I'd loved him in The Professionals. The story lines are great; the acting solid. I'm currently re watching the whole series again. I'm up to Series 5 ep. 4. For that last few seasons, within the first 10 minutes of each episode, I say the same thing out loud: Bacchus is such a t#$t!. I can't believe I never realised before now how much of an idiot he starts out as. Granted, he mostly cones good at the end. But, honestly! In this episode, having worked closely with Gently for the past something years, he doesn't trust George? Sometimes I could reach out and snack him.
The Famous Five (2023)
Rubbish
This movie began interestingly enough. But Jack Gleeson acting like Game Of Thrones Joffrey was just the beginning of the end. It just got sillier. Why these plucky children did not tell the parents/Aunt,Uncle, the truth about the sword is beyond me. You can't make George such a strong character, then have her wimp out over the sword thing. And why were they all wearing the same clothes every day???
The children themselves were good characters. I would like to see if any further adventures are as irritatingly ridiculous as this one turned out to be.
Perhaps, if they had made it more like The Goonies, I would have given it a higher rating.
The Out-Laws (2023)
Could have been good
Like others, I watched this because of Pierce Brosnan. And I agree with others....it could have been really good, except for Adam Devine...he ruined it. If he had played it serious, and dropped the stupid screaming and idiotic lines, would be better. Even Adam Sandler can play serious (think Murder Mystery and Murder Mystery 2). And the swearing (from buttoned down characters who really didn't need to swear) was jarring and unnecessary. Some parts were good, others childish. The premise of the story was good but someone needs to tell Adam Devine that he is no match for Adam Sandler. And the black characters appeared to be stereotypes unfortunately.
