The Wonderful World of Disney: Annie (1999)
The superior film adaptation of Annie
Any true lover of musical theatre will quickly understand why this is far superior to the 1982 film adaptation. Carol Burnett's performance as Ms Hannigan was certainly iconic, but that is the only thing worth noting in the original film. Kathy Bates portrays her quite differently, but is still outstanding in the role. The overall cast blows the original out of the water and Broadway legends Alan Cummings, Kristen Chenoweth and Audra MacDonald truly shine. The score is better than the original and this adaptation includes the best rendenition of Easy Street ever performed. I have not seen the musical live yet but am seeing a touring production here in Chicago next month and cannot wait.
Spoiler Alert (2022)
Finally a gay love story done right!!!
My boyfriend wanted to go see this and I was instantly hesitant because the trailer made it seem to be a Christmas movie and my first instinct was that it would be super corny (like that Billy Eichner movie that came out a month or two ago). I walked out of the theatre sobbing. This the best gay love story that has ever been in a film and one of the most realistic portrayals I've ever seen. There are funny moments, dark moments, heartwarming moments, tearjerking moments. I was never a big Jim Parsons fan before this (I absolutely hate The Big Bang theory) but this performance has converted me to a fan for life. I related to his character on so many levels, from the chronic anxiety, to being in a relationship with someone constantly under the fear they'll leave because your not cool or beautiful like they are, to losing my father at a young and and losing my mother to cancer recently. Even though we all saw the ending coming it left me absolutely devastated and emotionally destroyed in the best way. Don't let the marketing being so Christmas-y throw you off, I definitely wouldn't consider this a holiday film and it's well worth seeing in theaters!
Dirty Money: Dirty Gold (2020)
The voice over was unbearable
I never write reviews but had to come here to call out how the whispering little girl narration absolutely ruined what would have been an otherwise informative and interesting episode.
Hunters (2020)
Dont let the haters chase you away
Im not one write reviews but I am shocked at how many 1 stars this is getting. Probably a bunch of Trump loving nazis. This show is amazing. It is like what watchmen tried to do but here it actually works. It was so good I finished the entire series in one sitting.
