Saltburn (2023)
Saltburn review
This was not about the excesses of the rich with a supposedly poor boy taking advantage. Oliver was a disgusting murderer who was only out for himself. Oliver had no true feelings for any of the family that lived at Saltburn. He was pure evil. And the fact that he got away with everything dismays me. You can see how he wanted to appropriate the home and everything in it, as well as the storage life of the very rich. Got to give it to Oliver, he was a great actor. I hope I never encounter such a leech. Oliver is no more than a serial killer that has no remorse or feelings for their human kind. A waste of life.
The Invitation (2022)
The invitation.
Not a terrible vampire movie, but for those who haven't read Bram Stoker's Dracula the giveaways were so obvious, new Carfax Abby, the DeVille family devil, there was no Evie in stoker's original Dracula, Nina and Jonathan Harker did not marry. Nina was killed off quite soon at the beginning of the novel. And don't get me started on the blood red dress at the marriage of DeVille and Evie. I think it was a tribute to vampires, but not to Bram Stoker's Dracula. Please read Bram stoker's Dracula. It will clear up so many of the discrepancies.. it's the same that a novel has been trashed by such a movie.
Im Westen nichts Neues (2022)
What about the other story?
This is an uncompromising retelling of World War I, or the Great War as it was called then. The tragedy of a Nation not knowing that it was defeated and continuing to fight.
(Spoiler alert) The final scenes of the film where Paul is baynated just minutes before the armistice this is called completely explains the futility of War.
However, there's another story that doesn't seem to have been explored. That is the story of the Spanish flu that followed World War I in which more than double of World War I fatalities occurred around the world. I would like to see a director take on that story. We've had covid as a pandemic but it did not kill anywhere near the numbers of people that died after World War I from the Spanish flu.
What Lies Below (2020)
Creepy to the next level
I had doubts about watching this movie after reading some of the negative reviews, but I'm glad I did. This movie leaves you on edge throughout trying to guess what is going on. The ending is baffling but don't let that stop you from watching one of the creepiest movies I've ever watched.
The Block Island Sound (2020)
Don't get it
WTF was that? Alien abduction, or just insanity. I have no idea what their message was.
Sobre Nós (2017)
First love
I remember my first love, and I miss him still. Don't know what happened to him. That's what I think this film is about. The moment when you think you've met that only person who understands you, who will love you forever.
I first saw the actor who played Diego in another movie called Cousins. He had great chemistry in that movie with his co actor and he's got the same chemistry with Mateus, in this film. I hope to see more of him.
