Joanie Loves Chachi (1982)
Pleasantly surprised
I've never really been a fan (at 50 years old) of Happy Days, until recently...but then I had the opportunity to watch the two series of Joanie Loves Chachi and I enjoyed it. It's a shame it never had the better ratings - they are both fine actors (and singers).
The standout episodes were: The Christmas one, where the van broke down and ultimately everyone is at peace with each other, it's a beautiful storyline. Secondly, is Joanie cooking for Chachi, then vice-versa.
I wish it had gone on longer. Something to note though, Scott Baio would have fit the slot perfectly for Marty McFly, he has all the cool of Michael J Fox.
Also, top marks for the song writers for the show.
RIP, Erin.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Subspace Rhapsody (2023)
Entertaining
Interesting, I thought this would bomb and bomb hard, but it works. Solid musical writing and singing (touch of autotune in some areas, who cares). The very idea had all the makings of embarrassment, but it's nowhere near that.
I generally steer clear of musicals (exception: Grease) and some other TV shows which have tried to do the singing thing and I cannot watch. I don't know what it is, it's taking favourite characters and potentially annihilating them for the rest of the show's run...but you're safe here. Besides, just move on to the next. Entire runs will always have that episode you're not a fan off.
Cell (2016)
I hear there's a book, haven't read it.
I quite enjoyed this film - 1408 was great with both Cusack and Jackson - big fan of both. While this wasn't action-action-action, I thought there was enough - plus more points for showing the beginning of the cell attacks and even more points for that dark and trippy circle of people moving around the tower.
Family Guy: Absolutely Babulous (2019)
Power
Worth a 10 just for the power song that gets Stewie focused.
Gemini Man (2019)
Straight up ten
I'm not understanding the low scores here - this is a damn good film, everything I expected from the synopsis and trailer. The FX are on point (going above and beyond), the action spectacular and it has some real heart.
