A Murder at the End of the World (2023)
Takes longer to climax than a eunuch.
Watching this was more painful than puberty..
pointless memory flashbacks, "haunting" pausing scenes with no necessitation..
I should invoice the creators for my wasted time.
What started as a good premise, very quickly demises into one dull, question mark after another...
So many filler moments, or should I say, mostly filler moments?
Feel like it's trying to be grown up and innovative, but has an overwhelming feel of a cheesy teen crime comedy.
Main character Darby, walking around with the same look on her face and hunched shoulders, the only time you're able to differentiate between moods is when the acid stick has been stuck in her eyes for fake tears.
In my opinion, the end credits are much more interesting.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
A tour de force of everything
I won't offend the absolute work of art that this film is by trying to be a critic...
I simply have nothing to say, other than PLEASE PLEASE watch it.
Such a breathtaking experience that deserves every accolade.
WOW.
Night Sky (2022)
This is absolutely brilliant
Stellar cast, writing, production...
It's so good I came home from work early to carry on watching lol
I've not even bothered reading any negative reviews, because they're pointless and they must have watched something else as far as I'm concerned ... ignore them and watch it..
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Where do I send the invoice for my time?
I desperately wanted to like this.. but nothing about it helps that endeavour.
Acting was terrible..
Casting and token attempts at diversity were embarrassing.
Dialogue and script were infantile..
And I could not look past the fact that even though they are all meandering around a dusty village, clothes are spotless, ironed and perfectly sewn and fitted...
That was the last straw.
I'm sorry to say negative things about peoples work, but this could have been so much better with more thought.
V for Vendetta (2005)
Still epic and quite relevant to today's troubles
Still brilliant 16 years later after as many watches.
This never gets tired and every time I watch it I see something new..
if you haven't seen it, get it watched..
If you have... watch it again..
easily in my top 5 best movies ever in my opinion
Sometimes I get frustrated with the tripe that gets released these days, but when I do, I go back cinematic gold like this.
Nobody (2021)
Loved it
Never heard of it, found it browsing for something to watch..
I'm 100% pleased I did..
Definitely on my watchlist for a second sitting and I hope they make number 2.
Another Life (2019)
Why is everyone so negative???
The only thing I would change about this is maybe a slightly older cast, they do seem too young to hold the positions they are in..
apart from that, it's a really cool show, it's unfair to read some of the awful comments people have made in the park of others..
leaving reviews is great, saying hateful things shows that you don't really have an opinion worth sharing at all, nor do you probably possess the artistic or creative acumen to produce even a fraction of the work, effort and skill required to produce any of the body of work that seems to be so easy to comment on.
It would be lovely if people used such platforms with more positivity.
If you've got this far into my rant, all that's left to say is please ignore the naysayers and give it a go, I think you'll be surprised.
The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996)
Absolute classical
This is up there among one of the best films ever made, Geena paved the way for all that came after her, few have pulled it off as well.
Love it so much, probably watch it again today now after writing this.
For the naysayers... let's see you do better from your sofa while face planting a takeaway.. until you do, have some respect for this classic
please...
The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
the best thing I have watched in ages
This is my first review, I couldn't not say something about this fantastic show, which for me is an instant classic.
When this was first advertised I wasn't overly grabbed by it, but I kept it in the back of my mind to maybe watch when there was nothing else...
well I am an idiot, and it was my loss to not have watched it sooner..
this is a brilliant series, superbly acted, well written and at times poetically filmed.
I am not familiar with the book that this is based on, but I feel I must read it to complement the author.
some reviews are quite scathing, and I would advise not to pay them any mind, these keyboard warriors probably spend too much time dreaming up what they think are intelligent contributions to write here, as opposed to actually watching and feeling the visual work of art that is clearly before them.
do yourself a favour, set a day aside and binge this, you will not be disappointed
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Erm...
I'm one of the biggest WW fans... I've waited so long for this..
there's such a myriad of elements and talent that's is required to create a movie on this scale.
So for that I applaud those involved.
But it was not what I expected after the first one, and didn't live up to the standard set by the first.
I hate to say that..
if this was a stand-alone it would be a great movie, but in comparison... I'm afraid it's not.
I'm hoping the studio can look past this and make a third.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Ignore all the naysayers... it's great
I'm unsure what is wrong with some people??
This show is a great standalone, the characters are strong, the acting superb, I admit the mirrored universe dragged a bit but it was still enjoyable.
Those comparing to next gen etc are a little confusing to me, this is set before that period and paves the way for what we know about Kirk, Spock et al, but gives more character background to them, before sneaking off on its own to forge a separate path.
Reviews can be useful, but I think they should be taken with a pinch of salt and decide for yourselves.
Especially those who are so quick to condemn the commitment, hard work, creativity and vision of those with such love for their craft
They share their creations with the world to transport us from the mundane to the imaginable.
I think it's somewhat brutal, insensitive, unnecessary and vicious of some people to be so attacking.
Take a moment to consider the fact that those leaving such scathing reviews will never accomplish the actions and achievements of the people they are putting down. Maybe that's the problem?
They know it.
Decide for yourself.
As for the show... I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT, I thought that the first episode of S3 was brilliant, not overdone, I feel it's setting up nicely for the season without giving too much away.
Can't wait till next week.
The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018)
Fantastic
I tried to watch this a few times but for one reason or another never finished... until this raining Tuesday afternoon snuggled up with my dog...and...
WHAT A BRILLIANT MOVIE.
Worth more than the rating it's got.
IGNORE the naysayers who are especially irritating as they have probably never even been an extra, never mind make a whole movie, yet somehow feel qualified to be so judgemental.
No, the movie isn't perfect, but nothing is..
however...
yes it's a great piece of art that's dark, gothic, clever, well acted, directed and produced..
Foy is a great choice for the part considering Mara felt she wanted to move on.. I wish Foy had played the role in dragon too, For me, Mara was just moody, good but mooooody..
Foy has more depth and conveys without words..
Anyway... I absolutely LOVE this and will watch it again definitely.
I hope you enjoy it too.
Ratched (2020)
Pure and simply EPIC
Sarah is unequivocally a total screen legend in the making... she's FLAWLESS....
There are very few with her ability...
Loved every single minute
Enola Holmes (2020)
Absolutely loved this feel good gem
Millie is a belter in this, she has such a future ahead of her, she really is pure talent and I predict it won't bling until she joins the Oscar club.
That's for a chunkier role down the line..
For this one, she gives just the right amount of everything to the character and the supporting cast are equally great.
Production is brilliant and slick without being overdone.
Story is appealing enough for adults and kids alike, I can see this becoming quite the perennial especially for young girls as it's a cute little love story, but falls short of the cheesier side thankfully.
I'll definitely watch it again but for now, it's been a sweet, fun, charming lazy Saturday film that's been thoroughly enjoyable.
Hope you enjoy it too
The Fall (2013)
Brilliant
Someone said "why couldn't they find a British actress?"
The geographical birthplace of the actor makes no difference, especially in this instance...
Gillian Anderson grew up in the uk, then moved to the states, then back to the uk for almost 20 years, I'm pretty sure she can pull of an English accent..
I didn't bother with the rest of that review, it was clearly pants and had I believed that user, I'd have missed a great show.
Been looking for a decent crime for ages, this fills the void perfectly.
Both leads are fabulous, Jamie's bum is epic, acting is on point, Gillian has just the right amount of cold and control..the way she seems to compartmentalise human emotion is so telling without speaking, . I need some of that lol
Writing is class and it's a shame there's only 3 seasons, I think this could be up there with the Prime Suspects or Cracker...
fingers crossed for a return
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019)
I absolutely LOVE THIS FILM
The first one was great... but I tend to avoid sequels as they are generally cashing in and thrown together.. but I got round to watching this last night..
and it's brilliant
Ignore the naysayers... the best thing they could produce is human waste.. and judging by some of the comments, they are overproducing and it's flowing through their mouths...
great effects, great cast, great production and Angelina SLAYS as ever...
Watch it, again and again..
I will be ..
Artemis Fowl (2020)
Even Farrell and Dench couldn't save this, had to turn it off..
The spoiler is this: ITS TERRIBLE
You know when you buy something on the phone and they have to read you the legal jargon script at the end...
"You have the right to cancel, blah blah "
And the person reading it slips into auto pilot and sounds like an emotionless robot?
Well that's 99% of the dialogue in this film.
Judy sounds like she has started smoking 60 Marlboro a day, and Colin has the look of a man wondering if his dry cleaning is ready for collection, not that either of them are bad, I just think this "work" (if you could call it that) is beneath them..
I really did try to like this, I started it twice n in a day.. but nope.. even my boredom was was bored...
Downton Abbey (2010)
I am disgusted.
Update
every single time Maggie Smith is on screen... she literally reaches new heights of legend status in my opinion, I'm LIVING for her.
pure class and I can't think of a single other performer that can spend so LITTLE time in screen and achieve soooo MUCH.
She oozes talent from every pore.
I don't know what we will do when and if she gives up.
if you read this Maggie, I think you're fabulous.
Disgusted with myself for not watching this sooner..
this is absolutely addictive. I would imagine more so than crack.
I've only just started watching today and I'm already on episode 5.
love, backstabbing, deceit, bitterness, jealousy, pomp and circumstance, the British stiff upper lip, vicious witty put downs, not unlike my family get togethers.
Maggie Smith is a LEGEND
what a spectacular show, credit to every single actor and crew involved, I'm yet to see a second I don't like and they should be proud of themselves.
Given the current lockdown situation, which is dreadful and my heart goes out to all affected, the one ray of light for me is the prospect of 6 seasons, a Christmas special then a bloody movie.
I have disinfectant, food and high speed broadband.
If you haven't watched it, don't be an idiot like me and delay a second longer, get some junk food and knuckle down, as that's what I'm doing and I'm not moving.
Star Trek: Discovery: Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2 (2019)
10 is not high enough
Blockbuster movie level production, action, editing and execution... if not better..
I loved discovery from the off, the whole thing is superbly cast and wonderfully diverse in its characters, lesbians, gays, inter species relationships... kudos to the creators....
I've loved every episode, but this episode blew my mind, I kept checking how long was left and grew more and more upset that it was coming to an end... I almost saved the last 15 min for the next day just to drag it out...
To those complaining... critique is fine, but if you've nothing at all good to say about the level of craftsmanship that's gone into all episodes and ESPECIALLY this one, perhaps you should start to be aware of why some people end up making visual epics like this, and others, like yourselves, take up a career as keyboard warriors trying to spread hate due to the realisation that negativity is your only skill set.
The IMDb Show: IMDb on Location: The Cast of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' (2018)
A fabulous whirlwind of drive, daring, destiny, divine diva and of course.. darling
Easily for me, the best film of the year.
I've always been a big queen fan, so knew I'd enjoy this, but didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did..
Rami is so convincing as Freddie that I had to keep reminding myself that it wasn't actually Freddie...
It's evident that rami put in a lot of study hours to create the small nuances of Freddie, the lips quivers, shy/devilish looks and not to mention the physical manifestation.
The other actors did a magnificent job of playing the rest of the group too.
It's a poignant movie that gives an wonderful insight into an enigmatic and unique character.
Well cast, well directed, well told
I loved it
Go see it, then see it again
