Gunsmoke: The Big Con (1958)
Season 3, Episode 34
10/10
tbh just needed this space.
20 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Sorry not a review but taking total advantage to only make a comment. 🤞🏻Swear & Promise that i have like a best excuse involving cancer & suffering & if i could just tell yinz something it'll help me feel way better & i'm gonna trust you wanna help & please not be mad ok?

Lol absolutely every time this episode is available i MUST WATCH. The entire time i patiently wait for this one scenario.

Shaneways: " i think i'm safe enough now, unless the Marshall wants to trade your life for mine!" Doc: "Well why don't you just ask him, he's right behind you!"

SHANEWAYS 🌪SPINS AROUND!🌪

Matt: "HOLD IT."

That little exchange right there imho one of the coolest - funniest - most agile - most surprising - most thrilling - most satisfying - kinda all around bestest - thing anyone could want to see! I watch it over & over till finally sick of it! ... ok so having one of those bad REALLY bad days & realized how HAPPY this perusing was making me feel ... thought maybe if i could just "point it out" someone else might be tempted to watch & maybe even enjoy it as much as i am! Guess tryna share my HAPPY. Everyone needs to find a way, right? TY AGAIN for allowing me to "borrow" this space! Sorry i know i'm an idiot BUT i do feel way better!

lol guest stars so good, didn't miss regular cast ... too much!
22 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Darren McGavin. Phew! Maybe my first true puppy love! C'mon! Kolchak: The Night Stalker!! Lol i fell hard! So while i completely believe his character as a mean ole gun slinger, somehow i still always see a touch of that cranky sarcastic jerk that i had my first ... dream about.😏 But i think that's why i love him soo much, no matter the character he plays, "HE" is always there too, just out of camera range. Now i'd like to mention France Nuyen and must admit i'm a little peeved bc i thought i'd found the perfect description of France when i called her "flawlessly beautiful". Then i read the prior reviews and as usual kfo9494 beat me to the punch! Even more annoying, they've done it before! HAA! Anyhoo. Let's say "breathtakingly beautiful" France was as talented as she was gorgeous in this part! She played the part perfectly! I've noticed some complaints ab the regular cast playing so small a role in this episode but i had no issues with it. Obviously the story line was so good that i didn't even notice! Oh! The last few lines of the ending!🚨SPOILER🚨 ... "Joe?" ... "i'm here." ... "Joe?" ... "i'm HERE." ... the frail beauty turns her head to face him ... their eyes lock ... FAAAADE out of view ... siiiiiiigh ... Now if you have even one romantic bone in your body ... you loved the ending as much as i do! Okay, please just allow me to mention that (as usual) i know this is no proper review - just a bunch of my dumb comments. So if you bothered to read this at all, i appreciate it! Hope i was somehow able to covey through my ramblings that i loved this episode! Lol thanx again!

The Virginian: Beyond the Border (1965)
Season 4, Episode 10
10/10
i never miss this episode!
22 June 2021
Lol pretty sure i hated this episode the very first time i saw it! Well, WHO could pass up a chance to be with the V?? The MAN imho! Years later now i've seen it lots - every time it's been available on TV or youtube etc. The more i've watched, the more i've appreciated it. Prolly "i" needed to grow up quite a bit to really "get it"? First i had to get OVER my sincere belief the the Virginian was the most handsome, sexy, smart, sarcastically funny MAN that OF COURSE every woman would prefer! (tbh i still have to remind myself every time at the end of the episode!) Also learned how great it can feel to be needed. Pretty sure that's not a joy that only women can experience. Especially since the love was already there. And as Maggie finally told the V, "you don't need ANYONE!" Always felt if you really love someone certainly you "need" them, their love and support etc. ... if you don't feel needed though? I think EVERYONE needs to be needed. Maybe i'm reviewing only now bc i kind of have an example to share. My husband and i were/are🤞🏻that icky couple who were always in love. Now (again) he's battling cancer. I always loved him more than anything but now he absolutely NEEDS ME. I dunno but it makes me love him even more and then i need him even more and it gets even deeper & more intense ... LISTEN, i said i had an "example" not an "explanation"! Well i guess ultimately that's what earned my 10/10? This episode ended up helping me to understand myself! And imo soo well acted at all levels! They made me care about them all! And hope for the best! To me, that's a perfect 10/10!

Cheyenne: White Warrior (1958)
Season 3, Episode 13

Hey where is everyone?! Please come & do a proper review?
4 June 2021
Aww mannn! I enjoy READING the reviews, not writing them! Where IS everyone?? Didn't see this program as a kid (?!) so the whole series is so exciting for me! Apart from discovering DROP DEAD GORGEOUS Clint Walker (who manages to take his shirt off in almost every episode lol)! Another really cool thing is seeing a lot a stars, many in their first role(s)! Just finished being tickled to see crazy awesome Peter Whitney(who i didn't know died so young at 56 😢). Anyhoo then i noticed that the "Indian boy" was Michael Landon! OMGOSH ADORABLE! Even Iron Eyes Cody was in this episode! I don't consider this series to be on the same ... level(?) as Gunsmoke for instance, but Cheyenne is that solid but sometimes funny good guy, lol SOMEHOW the stories usually manage to make sense (to me), & it's a lot of fun recognizing some of my favorite actors when they were so young! Certain actors are in like ALL these westerns, it's entertaining to research their names and wiki's. OK. There's really NO good excuse for my 10/10 but since i'm the ONLY ONE HERE, who's gonna argue?! 😜

Jeanette Nolan is terrific on this episode!
17 May 2021
All of the user reviews were here are entertaining, great job by everyone! Surely we don't need a review from me too so i'll just make a comment. Just now watching this episode on TV. I TiVo all the Gunsmoke episodes i can find & peruse them over & over! Anyhoo, the description on the guide mentioned Jeanette Nolan was in this episode, yay i love her! So. I begin watching ... and waiting ... hey where IS she?! ... ya know, i'm looking for ... aunt Holly from the Virginian ... Ya know! Like that ... umm WAIT. That CANNOT be Jeanette playing "Dirty Sally"!?! That woman doesn't look, speak or act like Jeanette Nolan ... OMGOSH! What an INCREDIBLE ACTRESS! I've always thought she was a wonderful actress but THIS! It's on a whole other level! She's BRILLIANT!

Guest was ... ok
12 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This was fun! Didn't know guest Chris Swanda but he was mildly entertaining. Recognized bear expert Casey Anderson from other shows, like him a lot. Thought the prison scenario was fascinating and unique, i even googled Bison Prison! Think that would've been better with any of the regular cast though. One "good" thing ab a newbie guest is how easily the boys could F with him. Think Jake said it perfectly: while it technically WAS a win, it only gets a little "w", NOT a BIG "W"! To me personally, a rescue signal is a cop out. I mean, i'm a 53 yr 82 lb 5 ft woman and even "I" could do that ... NOT IMPRESSED!

Let's discuss creepy reviews ...
8 March 2021
So i'm just writing this in case poster @charlesfroland ever checks back in. The thing is, you didn't say anything wrong. There's something ab your comment (especially the title) that creeps me out. i even mostly agree with you. lol i gave you a mercy thumbs up since i realized you meant well. All i can tell you is that when i read your words i pictured a lecherous frustrated ultra horny old man drooling & giggling wildly as he hovered over his laptop while he fantasized of the "girls" in their pj's having a pillow fight. Feather pillows. You know, bc they'll eventually bust open and the feathers will float dreamily around the pretty pink bedroom as the ladies battle rages on in slow motion (of course). Anyhoo. ... Prolly you're none of those things! Just wanted to let you know maybe why you might not get all the "thumbs up" that i think you deserve. Try not to sound so icky next time.

The Virginian: Stopover in a Western Town (1963)
Season 2, Episode 10
10/10
Check it out!
27 December 2020
Love this episode for a lot of reasons. One reason is the premise that this random chick thinks that SHE is the one who could "put a ring in (his) nose" of OUR VIRGINIAN! An absolute joy watching him put her in her place! Another good reason is i see that Warren Oates is for once playing a good guy! Kinda heroic even! ... Here's a reason! One great extra benefit of watching lots of westerns is that we get to see lots of famous actors just as they're starting out! Wasn't Dick York wonderful as Jeff?! And the ending! COOL such a very VIRGINIAN finale! Ok but no spoilers bc i despise them soo just lemme say: imho it's a thoroughly terrific episode, yinz should check it out!

Lighthearted Fun! Plus some random musings.
6 December 2020
Always enjoy seeing Bing Russell in my westerns and i especially loved him as this character Sgt Eads. The best i can describe him is constantly bewildered lol. And it was he who spoke the word that outraged Steve: RIFFRAFF! So while i'm being random ... though i've seen this episode before, i never paid attention to how absolutely ADORABLE the Virginian aka James Drury is when he's frustrated and furious! This entire episode is simply pure fun! The sort of show that can change your day & make things better just from watching it! All the actors did their usual excellent jobs. Hmph? Think i'll go ahead and steal the phrase "lighthearted fun". More fitting than anything else i could think of. i smiled for every minute i watched this program, that alone (imo) insists on a 10/10 rating!

Gunsmoke: Jenny (1962)
Season 8, Episode 5

Pretty good episode.
22 November 2020
Lol my two favorite scenes in this episode have almost nothing to do with the key players. First at ab three minutes in: Here comes Doc in his fancy buggy, horse trotting down Main Street. He's got an arm stretched across the back of his seat, reins jauntily held in the other hand, little legs crossed ... just the EPITOME of COOL! The second scene at ab 52 minutes in: Quint and Matt all decked out in their rain suits that look like giant garbage bags! Something especially ab Quint, think it's the way his hood is tied so tight around that gorgeous yet disgusted face! The dialogue was cute but it's just the image of these two nuts practically drowning in the pouring down rain, all tucked into their soaked rain suits! Just so ... ADORABLE! ... yeah, the rest of the episode was pretty good too.

10/10+ all in 30 minutes!
18 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So other than "mitchcrmp" i think it was? Geez someone must've peed in his cornflakes! Anyhoo, all the other reviews were great, couldn't have said it better! lol so i won't. But i do wanna comment: as i already planned to give this episode 10/10 for the simple reason that i was on the edge of my seat, LITERALLY for half an hour! Then i thought: i learned that whole fascinating story, fell in love, lol'd my butt off (dentistry scene!), witnessed proud bigotry (lol now isn't THAT an oxymoron!) and some ashamed bigotry (WHAT was that creep doing to Miss Kitty?!), ACK i even recall feeling somewhat patriotic mixed in there! The ending: BRILLIANT! Chen PROVED that when he listened to Marshal Dillion, he truly HEARD him. And the "passing of the queue" (imo) showed that he agreed with Matt, he relinquished his beloved pig tail to prove it! lol BUT WAIT! Still not my point! So like, this episode, everything i've mentioned and so much more ... and it always made perfect sense to me (story certainly not rushed or anything) ... ALL THAT-EVERYTHING ... in HALF AN HOUR!!! Almost overwhelming, the massive RESPECT i feel for the writer right now! i mean. Could've easily used an hour to tell that same tale, but this was an episode that i'd already deemed a 10/10!?! Where can i go from there?!??

16 November 2020
Aww geez! There are no other reviewers?! Well i'm sorry but this isn't a review either. So at about four minutes in, when Alan quite unexpectedly starts doing the "URBAN VOODOO DANCE". i literally spit food. And i SNORTED! Listen, "i" do NOT. Snort. That one tiny scene made this episode a 10/10 BUT! The rest of the show is just as HILARIOUS! Soon after, when Charlie rolled/fell off of the bed! Again imo quite unexpectedly! "TEN!! That's a TEN!" lol think i even felt his pain when he screamed!?! Soo FUNNY!

One of Gunsmoke's funniest episodes! ... imho.
7 November 2020
Wow. i am sincerely surprised that some reviewers didn't like this episode. i thought every actor who was onscreen did an excellent job! Sure i understand that we don't all share the same sense of humor BUT for instance, this exchange (i watch the entire episode in anticipation of these few lines!):

MISS KITTY: "You see, uh, well women are always welcome in here it's just that, well, some LADIES might not approve!" MINNIE: "Well, YOU look like a lady to me! I'M STAYIN'!" DILLON: "GOOD FOR YOU, Minnie!" (casually sips his beer 🍺) DOC: (spinning around to angrily peer up at Matt) "You shut up! Now listen Minnie ..."

OMGOSH it happened so quickly! Lost count how many times i hit rewind and perused it again! Laughing out loud every single time! One of my favorite (blink and you missed it) short bursts of humor from a Gunsmoke (or ANY) program! Everyone involved was just "on it" that day! imho this show is worth watching just for that part but truly, this entire episode is both FUN and soo FUNNY! So cool to see Doc as the star of the show! He nailed it, absolutely SUPERB! 🎭

Don't miss mega talented Frank Silvera!
21 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Here's an episode that i don't recall seeing, that's the best! Actually watching this episode on TV right now ab halfway through. i'm riveted! Already know i love it, whatever the end! Btw how cool to see Frank Silvera aka Johnny Ringo! Adore him as Don Sebastian on High Chaparral! Incidentally I'm remembering that he died too young, like 56, from an electrical shock while fixing his garbage disposal. That is soo SUCK. Way too young. ... Oh wow. Johnny Drago just told Austin he had some good advice ab his soon to be born baby: "Strangle it! Save it the misery of living!" Dude, that was disturbing! Sorry, i digress as usual. ... ok, it's over. Seriously i just must say WOW! It's mho that Mr Silvera ROCKED the ending! He was superb! But his end wasn't THE end. We get to catch up with the cutesy Austin and Amy. Also enjoyed seeing the gang back at the saloon, Doc and Festus bickering as always while the others look on and laugh. Fun finish! For me, the whole episode "worked" and then was tied up nicely at the end.

Kitty's incredulous expression as she spies Thad riding into town ... just as she's describing "what i really need is a man, 6'4", with blue eyes and blond hair and muscles and a good friend of mine! THAD?! THAD GREENWOOD!! Over here Thad!" That's my favorite part. The part i anticipate. Soo geez, guess my opinion sucks after reading (most) other reviews bc i LOVE this episode! i LOVE humor! i LOVE silly slapstick! This episode is simply FUN why is that so bad?! Definitely my favorite "Thad" aka Roger Ewing episode. Love that he gets to be Kitty's hero! Ya know, he was just a kid of like 23 at that time. Imagine how daunting it was for him working with such wonderful and accomplished actors! imho he did an excellent job. Surely he was still learning. Anyhoo, take it or leave it i guess. Well i'll TAKE IT! i peruse it every time i get the opportunity bc it's AMUSING and it makes me HAPPY!

Well actually i have nothing useful to say either. Since i'm already here though ... check this out! i've never seen this episode before! In 54 years! Very exciting! i was missing a GEM! Usually i have respect for Dillon as a marshal, this story made me also appreciate the man. That's all. Great episode. Great dialogue (love the funny banter btw Matt and Doc!) Great characters. Excellent ending!
8 October 2020
This is one of my favorite Gunsmoke episodes! Seen it several times now but luckily i never forget the first time! Not tryna be a 🚨spoiler person🚨 so i'll just say the ending is BRILLIANT! Still recall (during first viewing) how i went from being angry and disappointed in the supposed outcome to THRILLED and, well, AMUSED when i realized what really happened. Absolutely HATED the "Dal" character but now i'm old and i see what a great actor James Best was! imo it was Mr Best who RULED this episode. Actually everyone did a terrific job in their roles but the part of Dal had to be a pussified braggart, a sniveling fool. Now, i can't imagine anyone else in that part. Just wouldn't have worked! So the actors were superb and so was the writing! lol i LOVED the ending so much that i can watch this story over & over! ... siiiiiigh ... but it will NEVER be as AWESOME as the first time!

Am i right?!
7 October 2020
Cool. i see kfo's here, lots of reviews. So i can discuss just ONE THING that's driving me NUTS!! Now listen, about four minutes into the episode ...

MISS KITTY: "You should've seen it Matt. He had his gun out before Andy even STARTED to draw!"

Now that's verbatim. Break it down maybe? So "he" is the bad guy who accosted Miss Kitty. Ok then, HE had his gun out (Kitty is saying he/bad guy out drew Andy) before Andy (good guy) even started to draw ... (Kitty is saying ANDY never had a chance!) ... all at once now: that dialogue said to me that Miss Kitty is excitedly telling Matt that the bad dude drew before Andy could draw his own gun. Riiiiight?!? Isn't that, in fact, EXACTLY what she said?! But also, isn't that COMPLETELY OPPOSITE of what actually happened?!? And she's acting like she's bragging about Andy but her WORDS say otherwise! Listen PLEASE, is this just me or what?!? Did the writers (or did Amanda even) get that comment twisted? Or is it that i'm just completely misunderstanding what she said?! Wish this episode was on YouTube so ppl could answer me! lol i've played that part over & over! Unless someone can explain to me how Miss Kitty didn't really say what i think she said ... but i'm afraid that might take more imagination than i'm able to muster. At this time. But anyhoo. Am i right? i AM aren't i?! Yeah. Pretty sure i'm right. ... i think?

Not enough time for so much talent!
7 October 2020
This is actually one of those super rare episodes that i don't recall ever seeing! First person i see is the wonderful awesome Strother Martin! Recognized him IMMEDIATELY without even hearing his distinctive voice! He's one of my all time favorites! But i'm about to learn that doesn't really mean as much as i think! See, another all time favorite is Denver Pyle. Betcha i watched this "Shinn" character for five minutes only thinking he kinda looked vaguely familiar. Checked the cast list ... Denver Pyle? ... but WHERE?! ... nooo!! ... perusing again, i realized that this was absolutely Mr Pyle! Darker hair and mustache than usual. Ok, now i see it, of course! Also thought both these boys looked pretty young but Mr Martin was 38 and Denver was 37. So i'm gonna choose to believe that it's not MY fault! No! Just goes to prove what a TERRIFIC ACTOR Denver Pyle was! But then why did i recognize Strother so quickly? imo he's also a BRILLIANT ACTOR! Sorry, i've run out of excuses to cover my bum. Anyhoo it was a good episode i guess. No real surprises if you simply have common sense. i mean, like there's soo much TALENT gathered here ... not ONLY Mr Martin and Mr Pyle but also other guest actors plus the always lovely regular cast! So yeah, like this giant living breathing aura of BRILLIANCE was just way too much to try and fit into a half hour program. So that's the way i choose to think about it. Prolly could've been better, just not enough TIME is all.
