Poker Face (2023)
Groovy chick!
Lyonne is a better Columbo than Peter Falk ever was. More charming and with a slightly supernatural twist. The only complaint I have is that they only made 10 episodes of season 1. They should've gone full monty on it.
Hope to see her again in a second season. Miss her already.
The rest of this is just filling, I already said what needed to be said, but IMDB requires me to keep going.
600 characters? Really guys? Have you lost your senses? It's ridiculous! But okay. Lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalallalalalalalalalalalalalallallalalallalllallallallalala.....
Halo: Contact (2022)
Very skeptic
The first half of the pilot looked like something from the SyFy channel, and I felt I was wasting my time. But I was curious why it has a 7/10 score here, so I kept on watching. Wasn't until the last 10 minutes or so it got interesting. It ended very intriguing. But we all know the pilot is often better than the rest of a show, so I'm still a skeptic. I'll see if I can squeeze E02 in somewhere on my tight schedule.
Episode first 45 minutes: 3/10
Ending: 7/10.
The Great and Terrible Day of the Lord (2020)
Poor attempt to use mainstream media to preach
If you are hesitant to watch this movie, because you fear it will be a poor attempt to preach at you and convince you to become a Bible fan, then you are absolutely right.
It's an assault on common sense. Avoid at all cost!
A Glitch in the Matrix (2021)
Biased garbage
This is nothing but a display of how a valid scientific ontology can be twisted and perverted in the minds of deranged people.
This "almost mockumentary" isn't at all interested in any philosophical exploration or scientific evidence, but solely focuses on selected people with mental issues, who support the idea. It seems to point out, that only nutjobs could be proponents of it.
If you're genuinely interested in the thrilling, yet counterintuitive idea of us living in a simulation, steer free of this slander.
Old (2021)
Old is deeper than most think
Basically this is a science fiction drama about getting old.
It starts with the first meeting with death. A stranger or a grandparent. Then your children grow too fast. Grandchildren arrive. You start to decay yourself. You can't escape it, no matter what you do. You begin to see your past disputes as silly. Soon you are slow and gray, and realize it's the end for you. Life has passed.
Well done Mr. Shyamalan.
The Rookie (2018)
Thumbs up!
A fantastic show through two seasons. Third season is struggling to maintain the momentum though, but I wouldn't miss it anyway.
Synchronic (2019)
A wasted opportunity
They had my attention for 100 minutes, but wasted most of them with drunken buddies talking about problems. A shame!
Maybe a good plot for a TV show.
Bliss (2021)
Abuse of theme to sell tickets
Don't watch this for the "computer simulation" theme. Watch it as a metaphor for something else.
I didn't like it. I like my stories to be given to me straight. Overall a disappointment.
The Undoing (2020)
Edge of the seat for 5 episodes, and then...
...a murder mystery where the obvious suspect is the culprit!
What a huge disappointment! What a waste of production and talent!
Antebellum (2020)
Good, with the right premise
It's easy to get the wrong idea about this movie. It's promoted and directed to be misunderstood, and that's a damn shame (and a mystery), because it is a good movie, if the audience knows the correct premise for it. So allow me to give it to you. It's not a spoiler, it's a necessity to really enjoy it!
This movie seems to be telling two parallel stories about two black women, played by the same actress. One of them is a confederate 19th century slave, and the other is a successful modern woman. Seems to. It's false.
This is really a thriller about the kidnapping of a successful modern black woman, and many other black folks, who are forced into slavery by some maniacs reenacting the civil war, in a hidden location somewhere in today's US south.
Hope this gives you a more enjoyable experience.
Z (2019)
Not bad
Overall well done. There are worse ways to spend 90 minutes. Ending sucks though.
Intersect (2020)
Horrible annoying actors
Excellent plot, but horrible execution and even worse acting. I reached the nausea level after 40 minutes. What a waste.
Attack of the Unknown (2020)
Attack on decent film making
You can see it in Grieco's eyes throughout the movie. "Is this what it's come to? Am I really doing this? Oh please God, let this be over soon!". And when the aliens arrive on the screen, you can't suppress the laughter anymore. They look like something from a 50's film. This is an embarrassment to all participants. I bet they wish they could delete their names from the movie's IMDB page. But they can't. They have to live with it. Poor sods.
I lasted an hour. I was curious to see how bad it could get. You can save yourself that hour.
Itsy Bitsy (2019)
Meh...
Horror flicks with giant spiders are obviously impossible to make decent. This became involuntarily comical in all the scenes where we saw the full monty. Haven't they learned anything from all the decades of monster movies? Or was the budget just too low?
Maybe they should have made it a horror comedy instead?
Don't waste your time. Want spiders, watch Eight Legged Freaks. Even if you've already seen it. It's the only good one of the kind ever made. And it's funny too!
OXV: The Manual (2013)
A philosophical milestone
What would you do, if you were destined to fail, but then had the opportunity to level the playing field of your heart's desire?
I luv'd it. It's a gem.
Freaks (2018)
A treat for those who are patient
Once you get past the first paranoid half of it, it gets really good!
Ad Astra (2019)
Two hour yawn
Don't get fooled by all the Hollywood stars in this movie. It's boring!
Might be useful as a sleeping aid though.
Yesterday (2019)
Better than expected!
A must see for all Beatles fans! The ultimate fantasy for all struggling musicians.
There's only one snake in this Strawberry Fields Eden, the same as it was back then: Love!
Another Life (2019)
Definitely not bad!
Don't believe the bad reviews written about this show. They are exaggerated.
It is true that a few characters are annoying, but they only are that way to add to the drama.
What we have here is an Contact/Alien kind of thriller. It attempts to combine the horror of Alien with the exploratory part of Contact. And I think it does a good job.
Other shows like Origin and Nightflyers disappointed me badly, by turning sci-fi into a psychological drama. This does not. This stays sci-fi, just how I like it!
Green Book (2018)
Good one
Unbelievable. It's only 60 years ago that people in the US south were so ignorant and biased.
But are we better today? Would you let a muslim date your daughter?
Will we ever learn that all humans are equal?
Movies like this one helps. But why does it take a movie to show people, that all people are people?
Polar (2019)
Awesome!
Critics hate this one, mostly because they're too much up in their own arses to see it for what it is.
If you liked Natural Born Killers and Suicide Squad, this is right down your alley. Add Taken, and the recipe for Polar is complete,
It's crazy, very crazy! Gotta love it! Good job!
Happy Death Day (2017)
Loved it!
An excellent anti-Groundhog Day movie. The same concept, but with a sinister reversed twist. Love will not save her from this loop.
Papillon (2017)
Humanity in a nutshell
The only thing you will ever need to fear is people.
Their craving for revenge, their ingenuity to punish and their sadism knows no boundaries. The Devil himself envies us. God himself could not have made a better hell than the place we are right now. Us torturing each other.
Things have become better during the last 50 years, but better is something you need to fight to keep. Remember that!
Replicas (2018)
Sci-fi revived!
The bad reviews of this movie makes no sense. It's a good flick!
It's not Oscar material, but the script works, it's thrilling and has excellent CGI.
It's a good story! And it avoids the same old dilemma/ethical crap we're so used to from this genre. What a relief! Science fiction lives again! Yahoo!
Bird Box (2018)
No How or Why
I would normally give a film of this quality a solid 7 or 8 rating, but this one missed a key element: Answers!
It's like science without philosophy. It's like a song without vocals. It's like a bicycle without pedals.
If you dislike mystery movies without answers, steer clear of this one!
