The Fall of the House of Usher (2023)
Literary horror lovers nightmare come true!
This series is magical! Not only do the episodes share titles of Poe's greatest works, they live up to their names. There are lines from his work peppered throughout the series, which adds to the overall genius of bringing his work to life. I can't help but think that Edgar Allen Poe would be delighted with what Mike Flanagan has done in his honor.
The amount of psychological terror that each actor goes through is fun to watch. To see them unraveling in their moments of chaos made this whole series that much more fun to watch. The writing, the acting, the cinematography...it pulls you in and leaves you wanting more.
Go watch this series and support your locally owned bookstore by picking up The Complete Works of Edgar Allen Poe.
Jury Duty (2023)
My faith in humanity is restored!
I love a good mockumentary and Jury Duty did not disappoint. The acting, directing, production, writing, props...everything was on point.
I can't express how much Ronald Gladden has restored my faith in humanity. I understand that it's easy to get caught up in reality TV, but I think Jury Duty is different. I truly feel that Mr. Galdden genuinely is a fantastic human being. I hope his life continues to prosper and I hope good things continue to come his way. Although James Marsden is the big name here, his performance never took away from the other's. Really outstanding work by everyone involved. Easily one of the best TV series I've watched in years.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to shop for a new pair of Chants.
You People (2023)
Let it go and enjoy
I'm your average GenX lover of all satire and comedy. Having said that, if you get offended easily, I would pass on this one.
If not, you MUST watch this movie. There are moments of pure comedy gold, delivered in just the right amount of sarcasm. The entire cast worked splendidly together and it took me back to the time where people could take a joke. I grew up in a world where Red Foxx and Richard Pryor were kings. Eddie Murphy was on SNL and Raw was causing chaos from every corner of the country. This movie took me back to a time where comedy was fantastic and if you didn't like it, you secretly thought it was funny anyway.
