Angel: Deep Down (2002)
Great start to season 4
Great start to one of the best Angel seasons. As usual, you never quite know where the plot is going, you can never be sure about what will come through the door, wall or Cordellia. The only thing for sure will be the quality of the writing, acting and the production values. The problem with Angel, and Buffy is the viewer continuity, I mean to get the best out of the show, you need to get used to the traits of the characters, (there's no joke, like an in-joke). Sure you can enjoy the program without watching it every week, but it is addictive, and here it's rewarding to be an addict. This episode almost has the inevitable Angel resurrection.Wesley is almost back in the fold, until Angel, mistaking him for connor, tries to strangle him again. More Tazar action again, this time Fred on Connor, which is Great. The best is near the end, with Angel's final speech to Connor,(Stunning)
Malcolm in the Middle: Malcolm's Car (2005)
Another great episode
Another great episode, that deals with real family issues, and real families, as opposed to the general dross that appears in soaps. This is an amazing series. It reminds me so much of a Joss Weadon production, because of the production values, and because it is so well written.
Today Malcolm buys a car, with his, and Reese's gambling profits. Anyone who remembers their first romance with petrol, and even those who don't can feel for him, as the car turns into a, 'money pit' . The same great acting from the cast, but I take nothing away from them, to say that the real star is the script.
This is the type of series that you only usually only, get to appreciate when it's gone. Watch it now,it can't last forever.
Recluse (1981)
Great movie
I saw this film in the old days, when there was always a B movie before the main event. I live about 10 miles from the scene of the action,in Devon. It is a true story of murder and suicide, set in the hills north of Dartmoor. The plot centres on an isolated farming family, called the luxtons who time has left behind, with their problems in getting to grip with ageing, and mental illness. Filmed on location,on the actual farm where the three main characters really lived (and died)With a great cast It is a small Classic. See it when you can because it is rare. Spoiler . Two Brothers and a Sister live on an isolated farm, near Dartmoor. The elder brother and the sister seem to have a full relationship, while the younger brother tries to brake free, without success. When the Brother and Sister see that the old life can't go on forever, they decide on the change that the younger brother can't take. He kills himself, then the brother kills the Sister.
A gripping murder mystery
Ring of Bright Water (1969)
Good family movie
Based on the Classic book (Gavin Maxwell-Ring of bright water.) The film is a warm, family tale, that is loosely based on the book. It has a great feel and atmosphere, mainly because it was filmed on location in London and the Highlands (although not the real locations )The acting,as you would expect from the cast,is great. They have a real feel for the wildlife. By the way, this film was the last that the author,Gavin Maxwell ever saw. He was dying of cancer at the time, and went to see the film,in great pain. He thought it was great, crying at the scene of Mig's death. By the way he had no contact with the films producers. I would recommend the film,as an introduction to the books, not as a substitute to them.
