Stowaway (2021)
Anna Kendrick was good, the other three were not
I like SciFi, even bad stuff, so I feel bad giving this film a low rating (there's a lot of worse stuff out there).
But...
Anna Kendrick was good, the other three were not.
In other words, there was one actor and three others-even Daniel Dae Kim, who usually is interesting, didn't have his heart in his role here.
What more is there to say?
Giri/Haji: Episode #1.8 (2019)
The rooftop scene was too long
I'm not going to be a spoiler by describing the scene, but half the reviewers have been writing about the rooftop scene, half of them praising it, half of them hating it. I guess I fall between the two sides. In a binational, bicultural series like this, a bit of Shakespeare and a bit of Noh might have been appropriate. But it went on too long, perhaps twice as long as it should have, which detracted from the art that the director and the actors were trying to get across.
Homeland: Paean to the People (2018)
An excellent season finale
Some developments were a little predictable, while others were unexpected. The combination of Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin, and the things they do on behalf of the country, continue to keep me on the edge of my seat. I expected but was pleased by Pres. Keanes' response near the end-were that all our leaders could be so thoughtful and noble.
Another commentator has complained that the ending trivializes and misrepresents Carrie's disorder, but I think he misunderstands the story of the seven months she was in Russian captivity. Her bipolar disorder would have been one factor leading up to the way she reacted at the end of the episode. Even a person with no mental disorder kept captive by vindictive agents of the FSB, the successor to the KGB, after undergoing repeated attempts to force them to give a false confession, would have had various mental and emotional issues when finally being released to U.S. officials.
