While I agree with some that the ending was way too contrived ("the fight scene"), the clever premise was a nice change from the typical made-for-TV Christmas movie of man/woman enemies or strangers who find love, which has become painfully predictable. Kane's role is nice, and I can actually buy into two teenagers doing what teenagers might do. Bo Derek was surprisingly good in her role as a shallow snob. The ending? Ugggh. But since I got 98% pleasant out of it, and I got to seem some actors get roles again (often stereotypical) as they've aged, I can't knock it too much. A great classic it will never be, but not a bad way to spend a couple hours before Christmas.

1) I have not watched the Relic Hunter series, 2) it's 2017 and I watch Murdoch Mysteries, 3) 15 minutes of this episode, caught in the middle of it, told me it was pretty awful. I am trying to consider the time - produced in 1999, yet the rock walls of the maze reminded me of the crappy fake stones in "Land of the Lost," a show I watched as a child. Terrible acting. I'm just glad Yannick Bisson honed his acting skills and has such a great character now in William Murdoch.

I really liked the show, and was pleased that the cast was diverse, but truly believed in the right of the terminally ill to die with dignity and/or end their suffering. Much as I appreciated the varied characters, I found the detectives roles a bit "Keystone Cops" for me. I'd have to believe they'd have better information and background on their suspects, that they wouldn't be so obvious and seemingly bumbling. Question: why didn't her daughter, upon seeing her cat at her aunt's house, not question her mother?? The cat was supposed to be dead. I'm pretty sure a teenager, especially when she's already stumbled upon her mother's euthanasia drugs, would have pressed the issue. Regardless, I kept watched every episode and had to root for Mary and her cohorts. I've witnessed people suffer at the end of life, and it's terrible and cruel. If one is not mentally incompetent, I believe one should have the right to choose to NOT suffer. Suspense and a real life issue.

Just finished the first season (will there be more?) and I LOVED it. At times some of the characters were confusing and seemed of little consequence to the finale and the whole story, but if you had patience, enjoyed the mystery and creepy feeling of the setting, for me, the ending was great. Fantastic. And nothing I saw coming. An extra point for that. Unfortunately I will admit again that some characters who seemed insignificant were very significant in the end, the tale that needed telling and the old murder that was solved, so I understand that some viewers were frustrated. Overall I found the major players diverse enough in personality that it kept me glued for the whole season. Every time I see Anna Paquin I still think of "The Piano," despite how long ago that film came out. All grown up, I still see that little girl's face. I have to give this show 8/10 stars. It kept me stuck on CBC after Murdoch, and that's impressive.
