Enjoyable
21 April 2024
Review based on season one: I enjoyed this series. It was quite gripping and I didn't find myself bored at all. It was nothing spectacular but had a few little twists. There were a couple of unanswered questions at the end but all in all I'd recommend. Acting was decent. Looking forward to checking out season two, which I believe is a different story/set of actors.

This character limit is so frustrating and stops people from writing reviews which means we're probably missing out on some good insight into shows, but anyway hopefully this paragraph takes me over the character limit because I have nothing else to say about the show itself!

Didn't want it to end
21 September 2023
Wow...I wish I didn't wait so long to watch this! I was hesitant as it was 10 episodes but the episodes were so riveting that it didn't feel long at all. I was gripped from the beginning. It was a bit of a slow burn but in an interesting gripping way that made me desperate to know more.

The acting was incredible! I've never seen Tom in anything until now and I'm blown away. No wonder he had to take a break from acting after this, you could tell he put everything into it. Emmy and Amanda were also amazing.

I know this was loosely based on a true story but I didn't know anything about the story going into it, so there was enough mystery and suspense for me. I cried, I even giggled at times. Best show I've watched since Succession ended.

Not boring which is a plus
12 August 2023
Look I didn't expect the best movie ever, and I was right. But it wasn't horrible. It had me hooked and interested the whole time. I was never bored which is hard to do these days.

The acting was pretty decent especially by the two main characters.

Are the characters likeable? No. But I don't think they're meant to be. Do they make stupid decisions? Yes.

I was fine with it being a bit far fetched as long as it was enthralling but the end was just too silly - I don't want to spoil anything but some people are so stupid...especially cops...that's all I'll say on the matter.

Watch for a decent thriller.

A bit too long
5 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this series, however it was 2 episodes too long. The story could have been played out in 6 episodes, so it drags on a bit and gets boring at times.

I like that it was based on a true story. Very loosely based though.

Knowing who the killer is from the beginning was ok but maybe a bit less thrilling. There weren't many twists. I would have liked to see more of his background and why he was doing what he was doing.

There were a few silly things like why wouldn't the police show the killer's photo on the news etc when he's the most wanted man in the country? Why are the women taking a morning after pill when they're married and probably want to have children? Why were there locks on the outside of the bathroom door and house?

The acting was good.

Decent thriller
28 July 2023
This was a good French movie, but not great. The acting was decent, but it wasn't dialogue heavy so nothing outstanding.

There were a few things that were a bit silly and unrealistic which is why I'm only giving it a 6. The actual story kept me wanting to know what happened, however it may have been a little too long and slow at times.

I like the mystery thriller aspect to the movie, but there were a couple of loose ends that weren't tied up at the end.

I hate that IMDb now makes us write essays for reviews so I'm just going to keep typing until the character limit has been used up...almost there...

An Amish Sin (2022 TV Movie)

Good but a little unbelievable
25 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was enjoyable to watch, I wasn't really bored at any point and it was a good length. The acting was quite decent, the only thing that bothered me was the main girl crying without any tears or watery eyes.

The unbelievable parts including the main actress wearing makeup throughout, not sure how she found the artists house, and the ending. She's suddenly allowed to visit whenever she wants and her sister can visit her? I highly doubt that. Communities like this wouldn't be too scared or police, they'd scare the girls into lying.

I still shed a tear at the end though, I really do hope that more Amish women can get the help they need.

Good but a little confusing
19 July 2023
Am I the only one who was confused 50% of the time as to who was who and who all these random new characters were? It felt like they'd start talking about a character as if we knew them for half an episode before we found out who they actually were. I couldn't keep up sometimes.

Apart from that the acting was so well done. None of the characters were truly good people and were flawed. The plot was gripping and had me wanting to know who the killer was and trying to guess along the way.

I don't know much about this culture but it was very interesting to see how the police system works there as well as arranged marriages and relationships.

Superb acting
16 July 2023
I've never even used the word superb before but it's just so fitting here! The acting was incredible, especially by the girl playing young Amy, Theresa Palmer and the actor playing Saad.

The fact that this is based on a real cult is what got me to watch it, as I've read a lot about that cult over the years. It shocks me to no end that that woman was never brought to justice, but anyway back to the show...yes it was a slow burn but it was still gripping and entertaining enough for me to keep watching. I watched it over 2 days. If you don't like slow dramas then don't watch this. If you're ok with setting the scene, slow paced mysteries then this is for you. Some twists and turns and enough different from the 'true' story to create suspense.

Just do it
13 July 2023
Really enjoyed this movie! First off the acting was well done. Matt Damon, Jason Bateman, viola Davis,Ben Affleck, Chris Messina...all great. The actor playing Jordan's dad was great too. Can't really fault anyone.

I'm not a big basketball fan but I did love basketball in the 90s as a kid, so it was nostalgic for me to see the old clips and hear some of the names I still recognise. You don't need to like basketball or even understand the rules to like this movie though as it's not really about the sport. Even though you know the outcome, I was still on the edge of my seat at times. It was so well done in that regard, I was never bored.

Enjoyed it
9 July 2023
I was expecting this movie to be so bad based on the media's perception and reviews etc I've been hearing about for the past few months. I'm not sure where all the hate came from? I really liked it!

The acting was really well done by Florence, and Harry did a good job too. I've read people saying he wasn't a good actor but he was great? All of the cast did well in this.

I had no idea what to expect story wise, I hadn't even seen a trailer, so it was a pretty gripping mystery with some shocks.

Loved the cameo by Dita and didn't mind the ending to be honest. It was just an easy, quirky, thriller to watch on a Sunday afternoon.

Hmmm
9 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I hate that I didn't like this very much as it has some great reviews. I honestly am ok with slow tv shows if they are also gripping, but this one for me was slow and boring. If it wasn't only 4 episodes I would have stopped watching after 1 1/2 episodes I think.

The acting was well done by the main cast and most of the supporting cast, some a little rusty but that's ok. The scenery was nice and the way it was shot was well done. I loved the use of aboriginal art in the story.

The thing I'm mostly confused about is the police work here - if all the cops here in aus are as bad as this then I'm worried. They didn't even search the car straight away? They said "nah we can't get into her phone" and left it and didn't think to ask her friends or family for her passcode until the end? Plus they are police - they can't get their forensic IT department to get into the phone?

Don't even get me started about the end. So it's ok for the uncle to be arrested but let's lie and protect mum...even her boyfriend is ok with letting her get away with it?

And what the heck happened with Keith?? It was comical.

Decent thriller
3 July 2023
I wouldn't call this a horror at all, but it's a bit of a psychological thriller with some mystery and jump scares thrown in.

The acting was great, I expect no less from Sarah snook! She's amazing. The actress playing the girl was quite good, she did a good job at making the character really annoying... The story was a slow burn but that's ok, the scenery was nice and they needed to set the story up. It kept me wondering and guessing...although to be honest I was left with a few questions at the end. But I think it's open for your own interpretation.

Recommend for a creepy watch on a chilled night in, don't expect amazing but it's not bad at all.

Pretty good
2 July 2023
This was a decent show, I was entertained and didn't ever feel the need to give up on it. The acting was well done by the main actress and her husband. Some of the others were questionable but not horrible. A few of the characters are so unlikeable both. Ok most of them.

Story wise we didn't really get the whole story, I assume they want a season two, but if there isn't one it still ended somewhat resolved. I actually don't know what the purpose of some of the sub plots were with the kids etc. I guess they wanted us to get to know the whole family?

There wasn't a lot of mystery in this show so the fact that it still kept me interested and gripped is quite a good feat. I'd watch a second season, but I kind of think it should end here.

Wow wow wow
30 June 2023
I've been putting off watching this for a while now, because I knew it would be sad. I'm sorry I left it for so long.

Tonight I watched it on my own and I ended up a blubbering mess with my dog freaking out and licking my tears. I haven't cried like this in a long time.

The movie was one of the best I've seen in a long long time. I've probably rated a movie 10/10 a few times in my life. The acting was incredible, especially by Brendan Fraser. I see why he won an Oscar. He made me feel sorry for him. I was disgusted by him. I pitied him. I loved him. I was angry at him. I felt it all. Hong Chau was excellent too.

For a movie set in one apartment with only a few characters, it still kept me gripped the entire time. The characters were realistic and not perfect. I wanted to know more about them. It made me think about my own life. Not to mention bringing up themes of parenting, homophobia, religion and more, but not in a tacky way.

Anyway please watch this - just don't expect dry eyes afterwards!

Don't waste your time
23 June 2023
What I'm the holy boring hell did I spend 2 1/2 hours of my like watching? I wish I stopped after the first 20 minutes like I wanted to, but my friend told me to keep going so I thought it must get amazing. Nope.

The first third so pointless and boring.

The next third is just stupid, crazy and gross.

The last third is the best of the three, but still not great.

Before anyone gets annoyed and says I didn't understand the movie, I get it. I get what they are trying to say. Did they do it in a funny way? No. I didn't even giggle. Could it have been funny? Absolutely.

Was woody Harrelson in it for 20 minutes or so? Yes he was.

Honestly don't waste your time, it was dry, long, boring and not funny.

Better than expected but frustrating
15 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Ok so this wasn't too bad, the acting was good by everyone apart from her fiancé, I didn't find him to be the best actor.

Apart from that some of the characters are really frustrating. I take this as a movie about mental health more than anything, and whether you believe your sister/partner/friend or not (most likely not) you'd still be like "ok she's really going through something I need to stick by her and help her". Their reactions drove me crazy.

Plot wise I enjoyed it, it was something a bit new and fresh and there were a lot of jump scares but I didn't always expect them which is good. I watched it alone at night and got freaked out.

Ending ruined it a bit - all they had to do was have the cop turn and run out of the house and not witness the suicide. Then end with you wondering if this means the curse is over. I don't need a 'defeat the evil force' happy ending but the one I suggested would have been more fun and less predictable than what we got.

Book was better
9 June 2023
John Cusack was actually a good choice for the main character from what I pictured him to be like in the book. So was Jack black as Barry, and the other co worker. The rest not as much.

The book was quite good. The movie left out quite a bit and rushed through it. It also completely changed one of the break ups - he had an affair with his best friend's girlfriend in high school in the book. She dumped her boyfriend for him, everyone hated him, then she ended up getting back with her ex. I wonder if they didn't want to make him even more unlikeable in the movie? Because in the book you reallllly dislike him. But also kind of relate to him in some ways. In the movie he isn't all that likeable but they don't go into as much detail.

Anyway the movie was still fun and I enjoyed it as an easy watch, but the main issue was the actress playing Laura had some of the worst acting I've ever seen in my existence on earth. Holy cow that was bad. Ruined it for me!

Decent thriller
27 May 2023
I actually had never heard of this movie but stumbled across it on Netflix. I love love love Kevin bacon so couldn't resist. I'm also a fan of thriller/horror movies. Kevin bacon did a good job in this. The kid was a decent actor. I love older movies because they aren't 5 hours long...1 1/2 hours is perfect!

I was drawn in from the beginning with the mystery. I'm not usually into 'supernatural' type movies but this was more of a crime thriller with supernatural elements. The story was intriguing and even though the characters were a bit silly at times I enjoyed it. And it still holds up over 20 years later.

I want more!
26 May 2023
My god this was a good mini series. I'm desperate for this to be made into a full series, there are just so many stories that could be told.

This show was heartbreaking. It shows you that everyone is in danger of family violence, not matter your age, social class, gender, race...please pay attention to friends and colleagues and when someone asks for help give it to them.

In regards to the show, the premise is new and fresh. It's extremely realistic. The acting is very well done, especially by the main actress. It had my attention from the beginning, the mystery had me guessing up until the end. A couple of coincidences but otherwise a great show.

Very good!
18 May 2023
This was so different to what I expected it to be. For some reason I expected it to be a almost soap opera like. That wasn't the case. It was really well acted, especially by the actresses playing the blonde mother and the brunette mother...actually they were all great!

The story line had me gripped from the beginning. There's suspense, mystery, drama and a bit of comedy. I cried. I gasped in horror. I was never bored and I binged the show within a few days.

If you're not comfortable with violence, especially domestic violence, then please steer clear of this.

The scenery was gorgeous and the music was a beautiful touch. It really made me think and I can't wait for season two.

What the heck did I just watch?
6 May 2023
Ok I don't even know what to say. I've watched a lot of weird stuff in my time, and a liked quite a lot of it. I just don't think this one was good weird. It was just weird weird. A bit boring weird.

For starters, I'm not a huge Nicole Kidman fan and even after all these years she still can't do an American accent. But she was decent in this. The rest of the acting was, I don't know...wooden? But I assume one or two of them were meant to be on the spectrum? I really can't tell.

The storyline was intriguing. I kept waiting for something to happen but it was fairly slow. Very disturbing. A bit of a thriller. Wouldn't call it horror at all.

Wild ride
6 May 2023
I really liked this! I've never seen cloverfield so I had no idea what to expect, it had me wondering the entire time what was true and what wasn't.

I was hooked from the beginning, there was a lot of suspense, creepiness, some action, thrills, scares, everything really! I kept wondering what would happen next, I was pretty gripped throughout. There were a couple of silly things and even a couple of unanswered things, but all in all it was a fun wild ride.

The acting was really well done by the 3 main actors...I can't believe Ben was Bradley Cooper!

People are bagging on the ending but I liked it! It wasn't too predictable.

Really good
5 May 2023
I was pretty enthralled by this show, I watched it over 2 days. I found it to be a really good thriller, with good acting by all.

It gripped me from the very beginning, and kept me interested throughout. I found myself not looking at my phone and just engrossed, wanting to know what happened to the girl.

The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the main character's side story, as it didn't really go anywhere. I guess it speaks to why she is the way she is, but it wasn't really needed. Oh and the police were stupid - I mean did they do any investigating? Come on haha

All in all I do recommend, it's one of the better Spanish crime thrillers to come out in recent years. If there's a season two I might skip as I think it would get silly, and the main character was decent but not super likeable - not much personality there.

A fun ride!
29 April 2023
I really liked this! I have no idea what the people who rated it low expected - maybe they thought it was meant to be a serious crime show? It's a dark comedy, not meant to be taking seriously.

I really enjoyed the 'Florida man' news stories throughout, so funny.

The actors did a great job, can't fault any of them. The story was new and fresh and fun. I was entertained the whole time. I liked the silliness of it, I laughed out loud a few times.

I love the Jason Bateman executive produced this show...it makes sense as it's the sort of humour I like.

If you want a fun, easy, bingeable show to watch that you don't need to take seriously then watch this.

Easy and entertaining
24 April 2023
I watched this hungover, and it was perfect for a hangover day on the couch. I have to admit I didn't laugh, the jokes were kinda cheap cringey ones, but I did enjoy the show. The acting was well done and I like the short episodes.

One thing I really liked is it wasn't too predictable. Every time I thought "oh this is about to happen" it actually wouldn't happen. I was pleasantly surprised!

I really like the premise for the show, and I love Celeste. She isn't afraid to make fun of herself.

As for the characters, not many of them are very likeable but that's ok, it's more realistic that way.

If there was a season 2 I'd watch it. I even shed a tear or two!
