Low Critical Value, Great Entertainment Value
30 June 2009
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a great continuation of the original from 2007. Michael bay has once again created a great ride, but (what a shock) critics did not like the film, since many reviews were more than hostile against the whole thing.

Yes, it is true, the film lacks all the values that critics so much desire. It lacks in character development, the story, well, also the plot has holes. we might say it has a very low critical value. But who cares, most films that critics like are usually so boring that you ask yourself why are you tormenting yourself by watching it, just remember Monster's Ball, Brokeback Mountain and many other films.

Well, Transformers is not this kind of film. It is the opposite. It is a great action ride with childish humor, which actually is not so harmless as it might seem at first sight. It has a few vulgar lines. And because of all this it ads to the mood of the whole film as a positive one. Whether you are a teenager or a grown-up, it does not matter, you will laugh to the jokes, no matter how primitive they are, because they actually work.

The soundtrack is once again the winner. Steve Jablonsky, Linkin Park and many other musicians add to the tempo of the film, which is always at high speed. It never stops.

Visual effects are once again spectacular, explosions are already Bay's trademark, but this time he even surpassed himself by making Transformers 2 one of the most explosive films of the year.

So, if you are a person, who likes to relax in the cinema and wants to have a lot of laughs, and at the same time enjoy in an adventure full of action sequences, then Transformers 2 is the film for you. If you are searching for a film with a plot, a lot of twists and surprises, then you better stay away.

But one is sure, Michael Bay never disappoints, if you are looking for a film that can entertain you, because he is an entertainer and not an artist.

All in all, it is worth to see this film in the cinema on the big screen, because sometimes a light film to relax and enjoy is all you need to relax your brain cells for a while.

Murder Princess (2007 Video)
8/10
A Great OVA Series
4 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Murder Princess is a story that starts very simple, but throughout the whole length of only 6 episodes more and more secrets are set and the series is full of bloody action and violence.

The story starts when princess Alita is forced to escape from the castle that has just been attacked. Her father, the King of Forland and many others in the castle are in the mean time killed by the attackers and Alita meets a female bounty hunter in the forest. But while both of them are facing death, the souls of princess and the female bounty hunter switch the bodies. So now Alita is the bounty hunter and the bounty hunter is Alita.

The animation is great and almost too good for the video production. The characters have depth and are good developed although the series has only 6 episodes. But none the less it is fun to watch it and you can really enjoy it. It is just the shame they didn't make a feature length film out of it, because in its length of rough 2 and half hours it would be better to do so.

Anyway, I do not recommend it to people younger than 16 years, because it is still a violent OVA and has its good and bad moments. On of the bad moments is the ending and the length of the series. It still leaves you with a taste for more. And because of the length the story lacks at some places, but it is well hidden with funny dialogs and dramatic dialogs.

All in all it is a great OVA series, well not as good as Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal, but it is very close to be perfect. But if you really want to enjoy it, then sit back, watch it and have fun, because this series delivers it.

A Great Die Hard Movie but ...
3 July 2007
Warning: Spoilers
John McClane is back and he is still in top shape. No, let me rephrase this, he is in an excellent shape. The Movie is full of breathtaking action, funny dialogs and it has a good storyline. It is almost Die-hard at its best. Well, almost.

First of all, what bothers me the most is the PG-13 rating. Some scenes cold have been better if the R-rated version hit the cinemas instead of the money-thirsty PG-13 version. In some scenes you can actually see that they have been cut and it still keeps you think how did the scene look in the original cut. I won't say there aren't any bloody scenes in the film, but still it is not shown in the amount as it should be.

Secondly, the bridge scene is awesome, but it still is something that is a little too much for such a film. Why? Because such a thing is almost impossible and of course there were a few impossible scenes in the first three films, but none of them was so far fetched than this. But like I said it is still an awesome scene and brings the whole thing on a different level.

But this is enough of the negative things. Let me say why this film is still a great entertainment. First, we have been waiting for John McClane to return for 12 years and now he is finally back and he really doesn't disappoint at all. Together with Justin Long, Willis has made quite a great performance. The funny moments between Willis and Long are just great. It is like old school meets new school. It is just too funny. You just have to laugh at certain points.

If we go on, Timothy Olyphant really shows a great performance as the main villain and he really gives you a cold shiver sometimes. He did a good job, if we think on part 1 where the main villain was played by Alan Rickman and in part 3 by Jeremy Irons, who are both great actors, but Olyphant really was shining in his role.

Another plus is McClane's daughter Lucy, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead. In her you can really see the reflections of both of her parents. She has a big mouth like her father and is stubborn like her mother. And both of this put together gives us quite a toxic combination. Just see the boyfriend scene at the beginning and you will get it.

The storyline like I said is good but not perfect. It is something like we have seen in many different movie and series, like 24 or 16 Blocks. Well, but the writers really managed to put the best of different films together and have created a cocktail that is very tasty. It is more than just this, it's delicious. Where there are holes in the screenplay the director, Willis and Long really managed to fill the gaps with great wordplay and awesome action scenes.

All in all, this is a Great Die Hard film, but it could have been even greater. So, I hope Fox will see that the fans still want more from the film and they will deliver us the R-rated version on the DVD or even better on BluRay Disc. One more advice, if you are making sequels to rated R-movies, don't downgrade them again. I really hoped you had your lesson with AVP, but I guess I was wrong. Well, still, Live Free or Die Hard is way better than AVP, but it is still missing some important ingredients.

A nice anime with a good plot
3 June 2007
Warning: Spoilers
The anime focuses on two main characters, Nadi and Ellis. Nadi is a bounty hunter and Ellis is a murder suspect. Watching just the first episode won't help you understand the plot, because it just opens the secrets and the second episode follows the same way. To understand what is going on, you'll need to watch all episodes, since the first few episodes develop characters and set the story. After that the story starts to unfold. But I won't tell you what the story really is about. You'll just have to see it for yourselves.

The animation is good, kinda cute, and still you get comedy, thriller, action and drama in it. The comedic and dramatic moments are the ones that make you watch this anime. They really are detailed. The music is good and it really portrays the events in the anime.

The only negative thing is the length of the series. It is said that it will only contain 12 episodes and this is too bad, because eight episodes are already out, so it means only four left. What a shame. I really wouldn't mind, if there were more episodes.

But anyway, it is a nice anime with a good plot. It is not perfect, but still it draws your attention. It is good entertainment and that is enough for me.

Spider-Man 3 (2007)
9/10
The Best of The Three
8 May 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Spider-Man 3 is not a perfect film, but it is a great popcorn epic that has certainly all the elements of a great summer blockbuster. While the first one was too much focused on the character development and neglected the storyline and the second quite the opposite, the third one hit the middle road.

First of all the character development was good, although it lacked at some places and some characters were completely cut out of it, but this is nothing wrong with it. The good thing about creating sequels is that you can always develop the characters that are important at a later moment.

If we move on, the storyline is near being perfect but it has some holes, which are made on purpose in my opinion. For instance, we don't know why or where did Venom com from. It just happened. Well, I am certain this is meant for the future films if they are going to make them to explain. As we all know, a part of Venom still remains in doctor Connors' lab. So it still isn't over yet.

So, you all think this were the holes in the movie-making process, well I don't think so. It all shows that the story just continues and we will have to wait for all the further explanations, when the fourth installment hits the theaters.

It is true that some scenes were really unnecessary, but the director's intention was to make us hate and like the main character at the same time. Well he really succeeded by me. I just started to hate Parker's ego. It was more than hating. It was really annoying, but I agree with Sam. Fame really doesn't always have a good effect on some people.

If you watch the movie closely, you can find several moral things in the cheesy sentences, such as you should always forgive people, do not hate and so on. It is good that the lines sometimes sound so cliché, because it is easier for the audience to read between the lines.

The movie has also great CGI and the battles are this time really epic. But the CGI is not completely flawless, but we can also find the flaws that are not in any connection with the CGI. Watch the movie more closely and you may see them.

And a great plus is the ending that is very unusual for this kind of films. It almost fits the profile of a manga such as Basilisk or its movie version Shinobi. It's not happy ending and this is something that I really didn't expect this until near the end of the movie.

So, if you like the first two Spider-man movies, don't try to watch this one, because it is different and many people could misunderstand it. It is darker and more clever than the first two and if you really expect to be exactly like a comic book, you are really really wrong. It is emotional and stylized epic and a great sci-fi experience in years. It really is a great finish to the trilogy, but it still has an open ending and what is more important, there is no spider-man swinging through the city at the end.

Sam Raimi, you really did a great job and you have shown that you can also be a great storyteller, but let me remind all of you who hated this film that this is not an art movie but a movie with the intention to entertain people and it really delivers the entertainment. And for those who like sci-fi movies it really is a refreshment. While X-Men 3 after a good start with the first two movies failed to deliver a great finish, Spidey 3 gives us a bombastic end.

But remember this, the story still isn't over, the characters will still evolve and more things will be explained in the future. And maybe we will find the answers for the things we didn't understand yet.

All in all, an enjoyable popcorn epic with overwhelming CGI and a great storyline, bu not without flaws. Recommend for everyone who likes a Sci-fi/action/romantic/adventure/comedy kind of movies. With other words, it has a little for all tastes.

The Departed (2006)
1/10
A pale remake of an Asian classic
3 April 2007
Warning: Spoilers
The Departed, the winner of the academy award for best motion picture, is just another remake based on a Chinese original. Critics called it one of the best movies of the year 2006, but in my opinion it is a disgrace to the Chinese original, called The Infernal Affairs. And it is also Scorsese's worst film ever. Even Gangs of New York were more original than this film. Let me explain why I didn't like this film.

First, the characters are empty. There is no emotion and the characters don't develop throughout the film. They are just like chess figures on a board.

If I go on, this is two and a half hour long remake of a trilogy of at least six hours in length, so many important things were left out, so the story is full of holes that really need to be patched.

As it is typical for Hollywood the body-count must always be bigger. Many characters just die for no reason at all. It seems like Scorsese thinks that if he delivers us a messy massacre the film will be a success. Just return to your basics Scorsese. Your older films are much better than your recent crap that you call a movie.

Another big mistake is that Nicholson's character is more developed than the characters of Damon and DiCaprio, maybe because Nicholson really did a good job and acted as a professional. But this is the only bright point of the film. And this is the reason for my two stars, because Nicholson is the only one who keeps this movie above one star. A disaster in every way and a very unfair decision of the Academy to claim this movie as the best motion picture, especially to the Infernal Affairs, which deserves an Oscar for the best motion picture more than this poor interpretation.

Still a great movie, but not nearly as good as the first
2 October 2006
Azumi 2: Death or Love starts exactly where the first film has ended. Therefore you cannot look on it as a single film, but as part of the first one, because it finishes the story that started in the first film, directed by Kitamura, who did a really good job.

But this film is not directed by Kitamura and that is a very big shame, because he could make this movie even better than it really was. Maybe also better than the first part.

The actors are doing their best on the screen and some battle scenes are worth seeing, but many of them lack the real choreography that we were able to see in the first Azumi. Mayn of the fight scenes also look very odd and are really missing Kitamura's touch.

Although the battle scenes are not as good as in the original, the story on the other hand gets much deeper. The main character suffers and also the enemy is stronger. It is quite well seen that this film was built more on a emotional level than on action. But still, it shouldn't be lacking on the action, because it is an action adventure.

CGI is used only in scenes that were impossible to make, like the scene with the boomerang weapon. So the usage of CGI is the same as in the original, but it has evolved. It looks more realistic than in the first film. But thank good it isn't used almost the whole time like in many Hollywood films, which depend on the CGI and not on the story.

Azumi 2 is not a perfect film, but it is worth seeing, although the taste after seeing it is kind of a bittersweet, because it really is not on the same level as part one. But I need to remind you all that there are very little sequels that are equal to the original or even better. But all in all, it is still a lot better than any sequel made in Hollywood, because these kind of films still have their heart and soul, while many from Hollywood are created only for one purpose, to make more money. In other words, the soul is sold to the devil.

This is Azumi 2, a great tale of a girl, who wants to bring peace to the people of Japan by killing all the lords who want war. It is an epic story that you will like it, but not as much as the first Azumi. I advise you only that you forget the fact that it is not as good as the original and let yourself into a entertaining almost two hour long ride.

This film could have get a nine out of ten, but I rated it eight, because of the not convincing fight scenes and because it sometimes lacks in the story's tempo and you can get bored, but just for a few seconds.

Azumi (2003)
10/10
Better than any US production
28 August 2006
Azumi is one of Japanese great masterpieces of popcorn cinema. It has all elements that are needed for an epic story. The length, the exotic locations, great fight and battle scenes and a great story.

The film does not depend on visual effects such as many US epics do, but it is using a completely different approach. Visually and stylish, the movie is almost flawless. The direction is great, but it might be also better, because the few CGI effects that are in the film are a little unequal, which indicates that the director isn't used of the CGI effects in his films.

The landscape is very authentic and it helps a lot to the film's mood. For the moments of peace, the director uses calm and beautiful landscapes, but for the fight scenes the landscape changes from beautiful into a sad one, like the desert landscape when the film begins and we find Azumi next to her dead mother.

Acting is also great. Aya Ueto really is Azumi. With her eyes, which are also her trademark, she makes miracles. She can have a stone cold look, but on the other hand she can have a very sad look, but you never know her real feelings, a real assassin. The opponents are also good. The final fight scene is visually the best part of the film and the camera was here very excellently used.

Hollywood could really learn a lot from this Japanese film, because it really is better than any US production that is filled with CGI. This is a film that really depends on acting rather than visual effects and it is succeeding on the whole scale.

If you don't believe it, see it for yourselves. If you like action adventures, such as Shogun, The Last Samurai, you will like this one even more, because it really makes one step ahead and delivers us a lot more than we expect from the whole film.

A must see for all adventure freaks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
8 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Three years after the first installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, Jerry Bruckheimer and Gore Verbinski did it again. They have created a two and half hour long hilarious and action packed adventure that will really hold you on the edge of your seat. This film has it all, action, comedy, adventure, fantasy, big and evil monsters that look really scary and of course a great cast of actors, such as Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Bill Nighy, Jonathan Pryce and many others.

The visual effects are fantastic and almost flawless, but from time to time there are a few visible mistakes, but you can see them only, if you concentrate on that. Otherwise they are the best I have seen lately in all films with CGI effects.

As for the story, it is very interesting and it is seen that the screenwriters were trying to get the best out of it, but they didn't correct all the mistakes, so the plot might be in some scenes a little less developed than in the others, but thank God that Gore and Johnny know how to make things right.

Johnny Depp is again the bright light of this film. His performance is more than fantastic. I can't even find the word to describe it. Everything he does is pure magic and he really helps you to take the ride of your life throughout the whole film. This is most certainly his best performance ever, although he has created many different characters in his career, Jack Sparrow is his most complex and strangest creation.

Even Gore Verbinski has developed his skills in the last ten years. From Mousehunt to this film he had many rises and falls and he learned from the mistakes he made and now he delivers us one of this year's greatest masterpieces.

And Bill Highy as Davy Jones. This was most obvious a really good decision from the creators. You will most certainly remember him best from the first Underworld film, where he was playing Victor, a very strong and evil vampire. As Davy Jones he is even better. He is more evil and even more powerful and with the Kraken at his hand he really is one of the most recognizable villains in the movie history and a pretty damn good character.

All in all, Dead Man's Chest is a real Blockbuster that will put you on the edge of your seat and it won't let you go till the end. But with an open ending it will really make you to see the third part. This really is a must see for all adventure freaks and is wort every single penny you pay for the ticket. One of Jerry Bruckheimer's finest films with a great entertaining value.

A great finale of the best MARVEL adaptation ever
26 May 2006
X-men developed the characters, X2 did everything right what was made wrong in the first and The Last Stand finishes the story that was developing throughout all three films. And that is how we have to look on the final installment of the great trilogy.

Brett Ratner had a very difficult job finishing what Singer started, but I think he did it better than expected. The movie sometimes really lacks in the story, but we can forgive him that, because the action scenes and the visual effects are almost flawless and through the film we have funny moments that are making such a difficult theme as war very enjoyable.

We might see that the Ratner's favorite character is Wolveine, but so was Singer's and that's why I think Ratner was the ideal choice as Singer's replacement. Of course he tries to develop also other mutants, but since the length of the movie is less than two hours, it is almost impossible to develop twenty or more other characters. His decision was to develop the characters that were the most important ones for this film and even here, despite a few miscalculations, he made a very decent job.

The Last stand is action-packed from the first to the last second. It has the elements in it, that the first two didn't have. The dramatic moments are quite a few and are really helping by the suspense of the film. Basically, forget Spider-Man, forget Fantastic Four and most certainly forget Hulk, because this really is Marvel's best adaptation ever.

Even though it is a sci-fi action adventure we can find in it many problematics that we can find in the real world. And here is when surrealistic things in the film get very realistic and the film directly absorbs us in.

If you really liked the first two, the third one is going to bring you further into the world of mutants and it really won't let you down. It has all the first two had and even more. The only thing I am still missing in the film is Gambit, but this is the writer's and director's decision. But there is still an option of making the fourth one, despite what the title says. Just watch the film till the end of the end credits and you'll understand.

All in all, the film has its bad and good moments, but Ratner did a really good job by filling the gaps in the screenplay and therefore I'am giving this film nine from ten stars, because it really is an emotionally packed action bomb that at the end really explodes.

A serious competition for "The House Of The Dead"
5 April 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The movie has a serious lack of imagination and is simply one of the worst adaptations of a Marvel Comic. The CGI is bad even for a directly on video movie, the actors act like they have never acted before and the story is more than silly. This movie is a serious competition for "The House of the Dead", but it still is a little better than the so called "worst movie ever made".

Brett Leonard, on the other hand, might have done a better job. But he did not. He made a very big fall. From a well made movie Virtuosity he has come to a very bad made movie that could have been better.

CGI in the movie is far from good, but it is still not as bad as in Dracula 3000. The only bigger problem are the actors, because they do not have any orientation where the CGI character is suppose to appear.

All together, the movie could have been even worse, but luckily it is not. It is the lower ranged B movie and therefore it is still watchable for people that are not lightly disappointed by a bad movie.
