Iron Fist (2017)
Terrible lead
Kind of a difficult show to get through. Sure some of the martial arts were entertaining but the lead of the show just made it so difficult to enjoy. Danny is such a difficult character to like. But honestly even if they had a likeable lead the rest of the show was hit or miss. The writing was just not good in general.
The only reason I got through the show was because of Ward but then again that is only because Tom is such a fantastic actor. I enjoyed all moments with him in it but even that could not save the show. Iron Fist does not even come close to the other defender series.
Back Fork (2019)
Underrated film!
This film got way to low a rating! It is powerful, emotional, and moving in so many ways. It's real and raw! My moods changed with the film. I felt sadness and then hopelessness and then hopefulness. The way it approaches addiction and grief was extremely moving. Truly an incredible movie that deserves more praise.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Amazing amazing amazing Spider-Man!
This movie was perfection. I loved every second of it. I would go so far as to say that this is the best marvel movie I've ever scene. There were no disappointments whatsoever and it was done perfectly. Just watch the movie! Don't watch trailers or look online for spoilers or reviews! Just watch it!
The Darkside Detective (2017)
For those who enjoyed The Blackwell Legacy
I'd never heard of this game until yesterday and am very excited to see a sequel released just this year. I would definitely recommend for people who enjoyed The Blackwell Legacy series; if you want a simpler and much less serious version. I was hooked right away and played the whole game in one sitting. The only complaint is that the puzzles could be more difficult. I got through all but a couple parts very quickly. But it's still very enjoyable and a lot of witty humour throughout.
Eternals (2021)
Not like other Marvel films
I actually had low expectations of this film and didn't want to see it but was pleasantly surprised. It's definitely not like other Marvel films but that wasn't a bad thing. This movie focuses more on character growth and the relationships between the characters. We got to know them and we got to care for them. I felt like I had a connection with each of the people in the film. I am very glad they took their time with this one. It might feel slow to some watching it because it's not as much action as other Marvel films but it didn't feel that slow to me. I very much enjoyed it.
Alex Rider (2020)
Awesome adaptation of the books!
The show is really great and I'm very much looking forward to a season 2. I was very glad they started with Point Blanc as it's one of my favourite books in the series. There were definitely changes from the book but they were all good changes and it still captures the heart of the series and doesn't change it so much that it would screw up the series. I really loved it!
Promising Young Woman (2020)
Perfectly don't film
It is extremely refreshing to watch a film and not know what to expect. It took be so by surprise in a good way. Going into it I thought I would hate it because it seemed like one of those movies that was trying to shove a message down your throat. I didn't expect to much. I was wrong though. I mean sure there is an obvious message, but the movie was so wonderfully put together that I didn't even care. It's one of those movies that I'll always wish I could experience for the first time again. The script, the acting, and the plot were all so well done. There were a few things that I predicted maybe happening but I can honestly say I was not expecting this movie to take the direction it did. So, if you're like me and are sceptical just go in with an open mind and just enjoy the movie for what it is: A thrilling, shocking, and crazy weird ride.
Jupiter's Legacy (2021)
Not bad
I like the show. The first few episodes were not great and I almost stopped watching but give it time. I really enjoyed the last 5 episodes and am very curious to see what happens in Volume 2 (hopefully there is a volume 2). Don't expect non-stop action cause there isn't a lot of it. The story takes its time to develop, so give it that time. Also, don't expect "The Boys", it's not like that show nor should it be compared to it.
Synchronic (2019)
A decent film
Honestly a good movie. I very much enjoyed it. The acting was really good and I liked the relationship between the two leads. It is slow going but in a good way. I think people may have been expecting a fast paced Sci Fi but that's not what this movie is about. It felt more like how short stories are meant to be. Just sort of a peek through a window rather then stepping through a door. That's always what I've gotten from Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead. They leave you amazed but asking questions and always wanting more. I'm a huge fan of their beautiful often tragic films.
The Punisher (1989)
Very enjoyable
Dolph appearance wise IS the punisher. He's big and he's menacing. His acting wan't as good as others but his rendition gives the vibe that Frank Castle truly is dead inside with small moments where his humanity shines through. His character truly doesn't care what happens to him.
I would have liked to have seen more of Frank's personality and struggle with what happened to him, but this is 5 years after the fact and it is an action flick so I don't think they wanted to dwell on that to much. Also Dolph's range as an actor doesn't quite allow much more.
The action was fun and entertaining. I also loved the style of the film, very neo noir.
I enjoyed the style a-lot. Its a good film that I think deserves more appreciation. One of those ones that didn't do good when it came out and its ratings draw people away but give it a try.
Shut Eye (2016)
Awesome show!
I'm so in love with this show and all of its characters. I finished the 2 seasons in just a few days. It was very engaging from start to finish and i'm beyond disappointed that it is cancelled. It would be nice for at least a bit more to answer the many questions I have. I'm surprised it didn't have more viewers. Its been a while since i've watched a show that intrigued me this much.
V-Wars (2019)
Has it's problems but progresses well
The show does everything it should as far as progression goes. There are no random filler episodes. It keeps moving forward steadily and we find out new things each episode. The plot is interesting enough to keep me watching.
Some of the issues lies in the dialogue and acting. While the main characters can the hold there own there are times where it definitely lacks. Dialogue is not great either. It does not seem very natural and the characters sometimes say things that really don't come up organically or don't make sense in the situation they are in.
It is a pretty decent show for a first time director and I'm hoping as Ian gets better that the issues with the show will improve. For now the plot is intriguing enough to keep me watching.
Dinner for Schmucks (2010)
Hilarious stupidity
All the reasons you should watch this film:
- Zach Galfianakis' laughing scene
- Any scene with Jermaine Clement
- Octavia Spencer communicating with a lobster
- Chris o dowd being a delusional blind man
- Steve Carrels end taxidermy presentation.
The Collector (2009)
Solid horror
I'm a big fan of scary horror, but tend to stay away from slasher movies. The only reason I watched this was because I'm a fan of Josh Stewart. After watching it though I was surprised to find that I liked the film. Sure it's not super pleasant as far as gore goes, but I was able to stomach it better then I thought. The acting was very good, as was the plot. It was very intense, something I look for in a movie. It's the type of movie you would really only need to watch once I think. But I do recommend it for those who don't have a weak stomach. I will absolutely be watching the sequel.
Firefly (2002)
Amazing show
Here I am over 15 years later. I'd heard of this show many times, but only now did I take the time to watch it. The first few episodes are good, but it did take me that long to get used to the style. After that I was in love. The story and the characters. Everything about it I love. It's definitely going to be a show I go back to many times over.
Pet Sematary II (1992)
Not as bad as people say.
I thought it was going to suck, but I actually enjoyed it. It was a good Halloween flick. I gave it a 6 cause I did enjoy the story, it was decently spooky, and I liked the ending better then the first one. It was less depressing. I did dock points off because yes, the acting wasn't great, and a lot of the effects were pretty cheesy. I liked it though cause sometimes a good cheesy horror film can be very entertaining. I didn't find it slow at all, I was very focused on the movie the entire time.
Fred: The Movie (2010)
Work of Art
This movie is the single most amazing movie I've ever seen in my life. Don't know why it for the bad ratings. People need to just sit back and see it as the work of art it is.
In all seriousness, this movie is one of the stupidest movies I've ever seen, but that it exactly what makes it so senselessly hilarious. If you have a few brain cells to spare and don't mind stupid comedy that took no intelectual effort to create whatsoever, then you may just get a few laughs. At the very least your kids will love it. I mean it's got John Cena in it. That's gotta he enough to make you watch it.
Django Unchained (2012)
Amazing movie
Some scenes are vary difficult to watch...watch it anyway! It's a great movie! One of Tarantino's best by far.
Black Mirror: Striking Vipers (2019)
I owed the episode at least a 7
I feel I would have given it lower, but didn't think that would be fair. I didn't like the story, but that does not mean it was not well done.
The acting was good, the scenery was amazing, and the story was well put together on all accounts. I did not like the plot. The couples completely compromised on their relationships and morals all for the sake of sexual gratification. They were completely selfish thinking only of their own sexual desires. I understand that this was probably what the director was trying to get across in some way. How blurred the lines become when involving technology, and how we may come across things like this as we advance into the future. But I did not enjoy the episode, and the end resolution seems like a miserable solution to their marriage.
Fahrenheit 451 (2018)
Never Never NEVER make a movie of a book if it's going to be nothing like the book
I don't understand directors taking a book and making a movie that doesn't relate to it at all. Maybe if people just watched the movie and didn't read the book they might enjoy it, but to take a book like Fahrenheit 451. A classic that people love, thats a lot of people have read and make a movie that's nothing like it is a huge mistake. Because of course people are going to compare it to the book, and they will hate the movie because it does not hold up to the amazing story that is told in Fahrenheit 451. The movie could have been amazing...the book is the perfect size for a movie, but it's like the director didn't even care about sticking to the story. Cutting out entire characters and plot points. Completely missing the point and symbolism in the story. It's such a waste when it could have been so good.
Homecoming (2018)
Getting off to a great start!
I'm really liking Homecoming. It has a lot of mystery, intrigue, and style. The music and camera work reminds of films in the 40s, which adds something unique to the series. The episodes are short, but each one adds to the story more and more making you want to watch the next episode. Each episode is better and better then the last. It's a definite must watch.
Dune (1984)
Overall good
I've honestly never seen anything like this film. Which was refreshing, considering most movies you see now days are pretty similar to something else you've seen.
The movie boasts an all star cast which is completely true. With every new scene I was seeing a bunch of familiar faces. Kyle Maclachlan, Patrick Stewart, and Sting to name a few. I was born in the late 90s so I'm sure there are plenty of 80s movie stars that I wasn't recognizing.
The acting was typical 80s Sci-fi acting. So a little bit cheesy, but I'm one who enjoys that type of thing every now and again.
The soundtrack was really good. I love the 80s music.
There were lots of weird gross things that sends chills up your spine. Plenty of the unordinary. Concepts you've never thought of. Something completely new to watch.
The only part I have to complain about is Stings character. It didn't really make sense how they included him. They have this guy that they kind of hype up as this mysterious bad guy that will be unleashed as this weapon, but nothing like that happens and you were kind of wondering why he was even included at all. Either not have him in it or don't waste his character and have him a bit more included and have a bit more of a purpose to the film. Basically if they had taken him out of the movie there would be no gaps to fill at all.
Smokin' Aces (2006)
Really liked it!
I've seen this movie twice now and I really like it. I know a lot of people have classified it as an action comedy, but to me it really isn't all that funny of a movie. Sure it has its moments that are meant to be humorous, and a lot of the characters are definitely very wacky and funny, but its also filled with a lot of death and loss.
My piece of advice when watching it, don't take the move to seriously and don't go in with to many expectations. Just enjoy it for what it is...entertainment. Its a crazy movie with a lot of crazy stuff going on. So if you like action packed then you'll love this!
Mr. Right (2015)
Wasn't to bad
This movie was good entertainment. If I had turned it on expecting some amazing movie...I would have been disappointed. But, all I was really looking for was something to watch that evening and thats what I got. It had some funny moments. Some of the action was kind of cheesy, but it is a rom com so what can you expect? I'm a fan of Sam Rockwell's so I was just happy to see a movie with him in it.
As far as the title goes, "Mr. Right", well he defineltly is Mr. Right for her. Anna Kendrick's character is completely bats*** crazy as it turns out in this movie. But they kind of make out to be this cute murdery couple.
Overall, if you are looking for a masterpiece, i'd steer clear. If you want some entertainment for an evening, then i'd say go for it, you might like it.
Heroes (2006)
Awesome show...disappointed that the fourth season couldn't be finished properly.
The first 3 seasons of the show I loved! It has a fast paced story, really good plot. The forth season really dragged though and I felt it was super rushed and didn't end properly. I understand why though because they were not really given any notice when it was cancelled. I feel like if they were given more notice or allowed to do another season, it would have been a lot better. That being said I would totally watch the first three seasons again, they are amazing! And by the time I finished the fourth season it was so rushed and a lot of it didn't make sense that I didn't mind so much that it was over. Despite that it gets cancelled I recommend watching it just for the first three seasons as long as you don't mind how it ends.
