Sunrise (2024)
About As Horror As Twilight....
For some reason I decided to watch this movie without even looking at the IMDB rating beforehand which I rarely do. Man did I mess up and waste my time.
Guy Pearce was wasted on this film but I hope at least he got a decent paycheck out of it because he did try to carry the movie; but....that was too much weight to carry sorry. The rest of the cast was pretty forgettable and I can tell some of them tried but just weren't convincing.
Now for the plot and the pacing.....yeesh...I would attribute it to taking a M. Night Shyamalan movie with no twist or eeriness and combining it with a shoddy origin antihero story like Morbius or Kraven The Hunter. It felt weird and forced. It was boring at the best of times and wacky writing any of the other times.
Don't even watch this if you are bored; that's all.
Dumb Money (2023)
Unique Style For Genre
Not for everyone. Probably a phrase that gets thrown around more than it should, yet I think it wholly applies to this movie. If you are coming to see this just to get a representation of the facts of the true story without quirky gimmicks and pizazz; then watch a Youtube or news summary of this particular story.
Now if you are here for a rollercoaster of wacky and a bit of offbeat comedy while still explaining the inner workings of this story; then this movie just might be in your park. It's like they borrowed the feel they put towards "The Big Short" and said "Hey! What if we used that formula, threw in a big truckload of wacky edgy tropes and an injection of hip modern day perspective!?"
This is exactly what you would have from that, take it or leave it. Is the acting good? Mmmm passable for most of the actors. Would I recommend it to anybody I know? Probably not; unless they tell me out of nowhere that they love wacky movies about serious topics. Is it a good movie or a great one? Just good and let's you in on a recent event without being boring.
The Stranger (2022)
Well Acted, Gritty, Real, Boring, Overdone
I wanted to like this film based on the actors and the acting ability I know these two actors have due to seeing "The King" which was a great movie. The actors from here that are also in "The King" do just as good of a job in the acting department, but I feel as though the writing fell short and was contrived.
Regardless of it being a true story the intrigue was missing at times and jumped in an un-needed way. Just trying to be true to a story is not an excuse to dilute the runtime with arbitrary and boring scenes; also to mention the not needed jump scares and surreal dreamlike addons that plague the entirety.
The acting was top notch and they really absorbed their takes on these characters. Even without intense facial expressions, I felt the intensity within them through the subtle hints.
Although the acting was great and the movie wasn't horrible; I don't recommend this film to anyone. If you want a similar feel as well as some good acting I would recommend "Prisoners" due to the far better pacing, dialogue, and overall hook of interest.
