Falling Skies: Space Oddity (2014)
Season 4, Episode 11

more dumb writing.
10 March 2022
In this episode they forget their daughter is 3 years old. They forget that all 3 of their sons have lied and betrayed them. They forget that Nurse Perfect also did the same.

They also contradict the part where Shaq and Cochise have their own mission. We find out they don't in this one... So where have they been for 4 episodes?

So weird. More examples of writers being rubbish at their job.

Where Hulkamania and The Rock went before
18 February 2022
So the premise is pretty well done by wrestlers: macho big manly man does a woman's feminine girly job... Which might have been fine or worked in the 80s and 90s but today the whole juxtaposition just comes across as patronising to parents and overtly sexist.

Where do you start with this... It isn't that the script, direction, location, etc are bad... It's just that this movie is like plain rice on it's own. Sure you can eat it and it doesn't taste horrible but it's kinda boring and bland. This is very much in that ilk. That being said the girl is absolutely abysmal... I thought we had stopped with the Emma Watson-esq hammy acting? It comes to something when soap opera actors outshine you and they have more scenes to film, more lines and less time to learn them in.

So why is it boring? Well it does nothing really that well. The dialogue lacks any real wit. The story itself is somewhat tepid and the characters feel like they have none of their own agency. There is no real exploration and no resolves. Even down to the music... Idris is meant to play a DJ and yet the music is so poor. When you watch something like People Just Do Nothing the music is right on point. Same with Brassic and other shows.

Should you watch it? NO! Just go watch Mr Nanny. Or The Pacifier with The Rock. At least they admit they are cliched ideas and lean into fun and stupid... Turn Up Charlie just feel like a comedy drama without much of a story and no laughs. I mean even Danny Trejo did one of these! Babysitters Beware or something. Look it up. Was like a good decade before this. Actual I had given it 4 but remembering just how many times this has been done it has to be bumped down to 3.

Lazy Susan (2019– )

Had to check that it was meant to be a comedy.
2 February 2022
Not many pilots get made into TV shows 3 years after their inception but here we are...

I might ask why shows with much better writing and acting would be cast aside... Stuff like How Not To Live Your Life, Cuckoo, Uncle, Some Girls... Meanwhile this trash gets made in an effort to be woke and garner support of lefties and feminists... Did nobody tell the Beeb that those are the people more likely to pirate your media and thus they are trying to sell peanuts to the elephant when it's the owner that buys the sodding things not the pachyderm stood in front.

The show starts off with what I am sure is meant to be funny but genuinely is just cringe. Then there is some straight up class bashing... Because it's funny to take aim at the lowest class in the UK and act superior... This is all before you are whisked away to see what is essentially ... Well I don't know how to put it... It's a woman that being forceful and I am sure that back in 2019 when the pilot was first shown this edgy humor would have been genius... Ooooh switching the roles aren't you both smart... I see, the woman is acting like a man... I mean I would accept that had Goodness Gracious Me and other not done the same bit infinitely better 20 odd years ago (could be more I am too young to really remember it, on way past my bedtime!)

Save yourself the effort and go watch Smack The Pony or The Other Girl if you want female fronted comedy. It is out there! This just isn't it.

Poor show and an obvious desperate attempt to fill a channel now the license fee is to be abolished. They cant sell subscription service as is, as it's way too thin, so now bulking up to charge probably double what the license fee already is. The English are so smart saving themselves by having the BBC cost more and possibly have less links to education making getting into the industry even harder given how many start their careers at BBC studios be they presenter, gaffer or even foley artist.

I cannot stress enough - watch Smack The Pony. There is a reason Sally Philips is a national icon and treasure! (and yes it's more than just her but I love her and wish she were my mother cause she is so amazing!)

The Great North (2021– )

Could be amazing but isnt!
4 October 2021
Would be great and I watch every episode to fill the void... But the show is not the greatest.

There are 2 main female characters and the rest are male... All male characters you can tell were created by women... Only one of them seems anything close to a real man... The rest are 3 middle aged womens' wet dream.

The show is okay, has moments of being funny and sweet. It is basically a poor mans bobs burgers with a less interesting Louise (bear) and less manic Linda (the sister) and no Bob, Tina and a stereotypically gay (he bakes, he is polite, he is never angry) version of Gene (Ham)

the show is slightly homophobic. Slightly racist towards Europeans and you can tell its a show created by and for Western women with western female privilege.

Is the show unwatchable? No. Is it the worst thing from Animation Domination since Cleveland show? Not quite. Is it worth going out of your way to watch? Simply put... No.

I would say it's better than modern Family Guy or Simpsons but way below that of prime Family Guy and Simpsons. Its on a par with about season 12 of Family Guy. Not dire but very hit and miss. I call it BiPolar comedy. One min its funny next min it's awful.

Masquerade (II) (2021)
1/10
possibly the worst
30 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Okay so the message of this movie is if someone harms you it means you can go for revenge. Two wrongs make a right. And do deal with death the first natural instinct is to steal art...

That is what this movie is. One long "you stole from my family so me killing and torturing yours is okay"

The movie is so dumb. Like actual dumb. It makes The Purge look like a Harold Pinter play.

Acting ranges from AmDram to Uni quality with barely a handful of scenes where the acting is anything other than budget. The worst actor happens to be the lead... Somehow... Ironically she has a more dynamic range when wearing a fencing mask...

But the plotholes are massive:

Backgground checks... When working with art in the UK you have a CRB check. In the US you also need social number. Add that to the fact that what happened to "rose" was in the news and massive...

The other problem is art is rarely stolen. Forged, yes. A lot. But stolen? Its not impossible to steal a painting but it is impossible to sell one. If you find a buyer they cant authenticate it nor insure it... A stolen painting is worthless. That is why criminals go for the much harder to steal and heavier to move gold and diamonds.

That is why the Hatton Garden Heist was a thing, and a group of women have stolen from the royal mint yet nobody has ever stolen a painting from the Tate, BMA or Manchester Lowry.

This is before we get into the whole idea that people traumatised from violence become violent... Erm... No. PTSD actually more manifests as jumping, crying and panic attacks...

Im not marking this as spoilers cause the "twist" is obvious within the first few scenes (if you hadn't worked it all out by the restroom scene where she even says "I wanna have what you have" cause the writers are so pretentious they think that such a line shows intellectual foreshadowing. It doesn't. It's cringe. And way obvious.

Knew from the start she was a "bad guy" and that the film at the end would try to say "she is really just a victim of blah blah blah" ... And I am sure in the creators head if Hitler had been in a camp when a child it would justify the holocaust... It doesn't. Nobody with a rational mind would think that. The same way as nobody accepts when a child abuser uses the fact they were abused as an excuse.

I have been robbed in the street, and beaten up. I got told if I wasn't quite they would use the weapons they had. Afterwards I went to the police and have gone back to my normal life, albeit a little anxious about going out at night on my own. It certainly didn't turn me into one of them.

This movie feels like some psycho idiots wet dream. I am guessing the writer got robbed and this is their fantasy... Cause they sure seem healthy... Huh.

Also quick question: at 53 mins she goes into a bedroom and clearly there is power - an outlet is literally lit up. Right of the screen. That red dot. So when the power is cut in the USA that means wall outlets are still powered? I am guessing someone left their vape batteries on charge. Or something else hollywood preppy.

Also to the review above about Daybreak and Alicia... she is such a bad actress...Literally another blonde haired blue eyed nothing to blend in with the literal millions of others... I mean how many are there? I mean do we need this many? The only one worth a damn is Caity Lotz. But from the dumb bint that plays Stargirl all the way up to Margot Robbie... Do we need them? They are the same actress...

This movie is the epitome of leftist LA: Bland, lacking depth, lacking cohesion or logic, lacking structure and lacking any merit... But it looks good and everyone is attractive and not one person is overweight... But but but but Wahmen is main star, wahmen is bad guy and the two male characters are non entities... LOL. The left is so fake. It cries about not enough black people winning oscars whilst we still wait for someone from Bollywood, the worlds biggest producer of movies, to even get a nod. Or like how long it took for non US animations to win anything with the likes of Le Triplets De Bellville and Spirited Away. To think that Ghost in the Shell, Akira, etc have won nothing... Meanwhile Titanic, the worlds most hated movie (well in the UK it's been voted the worst 10 years running) is also one of the most award winning along with awful "lets rip off dances with wolves" Avatar.

As Ricky Gervais pointed out... Hollywood still has a lot to answer for whilst it preaches to us... Epstein and Weinstein was all of your friends, not the movie going public.

What is with the reviews?
31 August 2021
First Off: The show is average. Average and that isn't bad. If you think Knives Out is the best mystery ever created you will love this. If you are a fan of everything from Death In Paradise all the way to Father Brown Mysteries you will think this is average.

The start is not needed... The three telling a tale of "their" new york isn't needed. It's too "woody allen" and it's like bad poetry... Artistic decisions only look artistic when done for artistic reasons. This reeks of trying to hard to be intellectual. There of course is the obligatory "women get raped by men cause it's a mans world and wah-men" reeled off by Selena Gomez.

This isn't novel or unique. In fact it literally follows the same beats as so many before... To the point where Ultra City Smiths lampooned it only a few weeks ago on our TV screens.

The positives. Steve Martin and Martin Short. They are legends and this isn't a "payday" for them. This isn't phoned in. I will agree with that. Amazing from them. Selena Gomes. I love her. I am not a huge fan of her music but her personally I actually like as she has never come across the same as Miley and Tay-Tay... Both seeming up their own... Ahem... Ms Gomez has always seen like the cheerleader that didn't want to be mean like the other vapid airheads but couldn't help being attractive and popular. I am so glad she is normal in this and that she plays someone that isn't just a 20-something idiot. She actually is playing a functioning adult!

The cinematography is lush. No other words for it. Money spent well. The acting between the 3 is amazing.

Now the negatives.

The pacing is off. The story is taking too long to set up. Exposition can be done far more naturally. The start is elongated and filled with horrible little cliches and tropes. The pilot is bad... But I give the show a 6 as pilots aren't usually the peak of a show.

The mystery is not that smart with the only good aspect being that they are fans of podcasts... No different to the main character of Zomboat being into zombie movies or things like Truth Seekers. It's been done and worse still... You should never touch a subject that Rhyse Sheersmith and Steve Pemberton have touched with their amazing Inside Number 9.

The pilot follows Campbells Journey way too much... At the 18th min mark they literally hit one of the steps on time...

As for the reviews... Anyone that has given this above a 9 needs a word with themselves. Worryingly on here and google the reviews seem fake made by people that have had their profiles for less than a week.

Is it bad? No. It is amazing? No. It's average. Worse still it's a hackneyed mish mash of Agatha Christie tropes. We have them all here... From Miss Marple to And Then There Were None.

As for the podcast thing... It's a bit 2018 isn't it?

Fear the Walking Dead (2015–2023)
6/10
Another show ruined by weird choices
20 August 2021
How do you start with this?

First off the premise... It's The Walking Dead just with focus on new characters. That's it. I thought this would be a prequel and it really isn't as it catches up to the series with weird jumps in time.

Secondly the characters... The "bad guys" in this seem to be more ethical and moral than the "good guys" which is now common in US TV. This is because writers have really weird ideas of morality. So the bad guys for example may just pick the area clean of supplies whilst the "good guys" threaten to shoot people every five seconds and are emotionally unstable and willing to kill out of perceived injustice and rationalise it all by telling themselves that their shifting morality is normal. The mother is actually dangerous, they make out a conman and a smack head are gonna be useful in a crisis and to top it all off there is an edgy school shooter kid and a Violet from Liminy Snickets that does nothing but pout and goes between emotionally intelligent and PTSD wreck in the drop of a hat... Her character changes scene to scene.

There are some genuinely good characters pushed forward by I assume the actually creator. John when you meet him you will love. But the main cast that starts out... Awful just awful.

This show would be 4 stars but I just got to season 4 and that is markedly better than 2 and 3...

The big problems. The biggest problem with the show is they learn things and then conveniently forget them. They learn they can walk amongst the zombies and then forget for a season and a half to two seasons. Zombies are quick to kill when it suits but yet in the next scene someone that took out a dozen zombies can struggle with a couple. This is prime example of writers that force the story and force character reactions and actions. It means there is little agency for the characters as their choices mean nothing. The writers will always deus ex machina.

The worst crime is the forcing of keeping characters alive even once dead through flashbacks and yet killing off characters you care about.

Shows like Z Nation and Black Summer are much better. I would compare this to Black Summer... Black Summer has the same issues with a mother and daughter combo being poorly written. In fact both shows seem to put "tiger mothers" up as being invincible. But Black Summer has the better story that isn't dragged out nearly as much. Honestly with Fear The Walking Dead i skip some bits. Some scenes that don't further the narrative can be 10 mins plus... That's a quarter of the show's runtime. The big difference is that where FTWD hints at bad things and rarely shows it, Black Summer is brutal and shows it. Black Summer also has definite structure and arc... FTWD runs like a UK soap opera. There are "story arcs" but there is no goal. The story has no rise. There is no act structure of heroes journey here. And I know it's kinda meant to be a zombie drama soap opera like Eastenders meets George A Romero... But it gets a bit beyond the pale.

If you have run out of Zombie/Apocalypse shows to watch like I have then this is worth the watch but learn how to judge a scene to skip. But if you haven't watched Z Nation, Black Summer, Blood Drive, Dead Set, Survivors, War of The Worlds (french) or even Zomboat then watch them first. I also suggest Colony and if you can put up with the aspect ratio and age The Last Train is also worth a mention.

Black Summer (2019–2021)

Would give it 10 if they would kill of Jamie King and her scumbag daughter!
2 August 2021
The show is amazing apart from two things:

The run time of episodes is all over the place and clearly they filmed 6 episodes and cut it into 8 for the first season to please Netflix.

And secondly is Jamie King's character. She is just awful. The worst. I mean she is worse than any other character with what she does and justifies it all using bad logic... She is like someone that's been bitten by a dog suddenly spending billions on developing something to wipe them out. Or like someone that gets cut off on the road and justifies going postal. Her daughter is worse. No spoilers but some of what they did I am sure the writers thought would make sense to a rational person but instead they dont look cautious or smart... just plain cold, violent and the worst. Iknow in Z Nation they mention that this period made good people do bad things... But there is bad and then there is Jamie King. It really doesn't help that the Actress really isn't amazing at emotion and comes across the same in every movie/show.. She is good at playing annoying cheerleader types and why she took this role I am guessing.. she is now too old to play that "white chicks" trope or the vapid mean girl. The irony is Murphy is WAY more likeable simply because he is more complex than just "Ive seen things so now I am cold and ruthless and will kill anyone!" There is no growth to her. A switch flips from "I am simpering and can't do anything!" to "I still have morals" to "I am a cold hearted survivalist and killer" all in the space of 8 episodes that average 30 mins a pop! Pffft. Sorry, but that is bad character development. You don't even see what could have changed her and worse still they even show you someone that has had more trauma still trusting and not become a d*** like she has.

The show itself is great. Darker and less comedic than Z Nation but still works. The tone makes you realise Black Summer was more somber.

The acting of other characters is great. Some of the camera work is a little ... Check that really awful. The spinning camera thing the director thinks is a good idea makes you feel ill.

The story and script are really good. Some of the concepts are unique. I wont spoil any of it, but I will say this is way better than the Walking Dead shame the "Main" 2 stars are the most unlikable characters I've seen in anything - that is why its such a markdown. I would give it 8 if they were written out.

Kevin Can F**k Himself (2021–2022)
1/10
Wow
19 June 2021
All I can say is what the hell did I just watch. It is not often I see something so one dimensional and ham-fisted. Has the average American become so uneducated that their media now has to be so blunt with their message? Almost to the point that resembles something more akin to a Tex Avery cartoon?

Where does one start with a review on this dire attempt at avant-garde?

Let us start with the cast. The lead is actually a star. She shines brightly throughout the pilot and shows that she has buckets of acting talent, especially when carrying such an awful script with cringeworthy direction at times. The other members of the cast seem to have been told "All of you act like Tim Allen and like it's the 90s!" as they do their best Tim-The-Toolman impressions. A show I have not seen since childhood nor would I ever want reminding of it. The only good thing to come from it was the voice of Simba. But I digress. The show feels like it was written by someone middle aged that still thinks this is a lampoon of current living.... Oh dear... How removed they are. It shows they haven't "slummed it" since the early 90s and that is when their last tangible grasp on normality was!

Now onto the elephant... The single camera... The juxtaposition sounds fine in theory when doing a media studies degree at University. But in practice it is just gimmicky and tacky.

I think the shows sets out to make some big feminist wave and instead harms the cause.

This is nothing more than uneducated and embarrassing attempt to be Fleabag. Phoebe Waller-Bridge has nothing to fear from this dramatical abortion of a show.

If you want something that doesn't harm feminist ideals, is well-written and has a female lead I suggest you watch Fleabag. Or even better watch the original that disproves a lot of this guff and watch the classic Vicar of Dibley which shows what sexism was like in the 90s... You will start to see characters from this turgid show in that 30 year old gem.

It is bad.
28 March 2021
First off to address the other reviews. Some are very harsh, it isn't the worst thing I've ever seen. It's production, set and costume design is first class. The cinematography is excellent... But that is where it ends. The suspension of disbelief is broken. People seem to think if it has magic or occult is must mean all notion of rationale or reality must be void... No. If that were true why weren't one of the cast a God and negate the need for more than an episode for exposition? No. In a world where they are the "Bakers Street Irregulars" is a world still filled with many prejudices. That is why they are "irregulars." The fact they are female or are POCs has no bearing. The world designed and narrative does.

As others have said, they had a chance to show a true Victorian England whilst maintaining the fiction and fantasy - like Doctor Who with Martha meeting the Bard and him spewing out what today is racial slurs. Or like even in DC's Legends when Firestorm goes back and sees slavery first hand. These are awful parts of human history that should be remembered and not covered up. We must own our sins and our indiscretions. We must take blame and not shy away from our past because it hurts. It is meant to hurt: that is what stops us doing it again.

As for the show. The script is quite poor at times with language making no sense compared to great period pieces... The problem is if you live in the UK you have seen a million and one period dramas and most of us are familiar with how people spoke and acted in that era... This doesn't match up. The acting is good, the actors clearly have talent. The budget was big and it feels it but it also feels like this was created by people that have seen Doctor Who and A Muppets Christmas Carrol and run with it. London has so many areas rich with history and mythos that they could have really dug deep. A show called White Chapel is a good example. But I digress. The plot is somewhat predicable but with some certain... Deus Ex Machinas. The logic at times doesn't make sense... IE 2*1= ... Adults: 2 Teens: 18 because there was a secret 9 that happened because supernatural and you are old and not in touch. I can believe superman can fly, I can't believe that him changing the rotation of the earth affects time... If reading this I hope you see what I mean. We can make some leaps but too many and its starts looking "convenient".

As for the characters... Yes, I am a fan of the source material but... The characters are way more annoying in the show! They are so cheesy and there is little to none of the character development! The whole point of the original was to imbue certain morals and ethics like a fable by Aesop. Not to make political statements that ironically date a period piece... But not date it to the time it was set but the time it was produced... And that is sad. So sad.

I wouldn't say it is the worst thing I have ever watched. To me it is no worse than MCU. But when you have Sherlock that addressed the Abominable Bride with the Silent Army being women and it having a statement about the time that has bearing on today you have to compare it and say is The Irregulars anywhere near as complete? No. Nowhere near. If only they had shown what it was like for people in their position and shown people how bad it was.

It is worth having a nosey at the first episode and if it is your thing you will probably have some fun. But if you find shows like Batwoman tedious you are gonna hate this. The best thing I can say is it feels professional... But you can say that about a lot of Netflix stuff.

If you are looking for something similar might I suggest the amazing Zapped! You will come for Jay from The Inbetweeners but stay for Howell the Wizard. Yes it isn't as serious or edgy but it is a lot more entertaining!

Crude, brash and infinitely endearing and sweet.
21 March 2021
This is not what it seems at first. Awkwafina is very self-deprecating. You can really tell she had input and co-wrote it. There are moments of pure comedy, but also moments of character growth, insights and really sweet moments.

I was not a fan of her but after a couple of episodes I now a huge fan. I hope the show manages to run it course. I wonder how much of her own life is in this.

Be warned though, it can be VERY crude.

Normal Service Is Resumed!
19 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
First off ignore any claim that this is original or unique. As for the person saying we didn't watch it... 2 action pieces? The first one lasted 11 mins in the air with the michael bay-esq explosions. 11 mins is a pretty big "piece"

On to the review... After the surprise that was Wandervision I was expecting something more daring from Disney and Marvel... Alas they have resorted to the marvel of old. If you have watched MCU or any of the Netflix series you have seen this. Huge budget with all the money going on special effects and the steroids for the main protagonist to keep "buff" ... The only thing more boring than the direction is the story. As for the script... Jesus Christ is it bad.

This is the type of show that The Tick lambasted. The type of schtick that Doom Patrol pokes fun at. This is everything those outside of Marvel and DC fans say the two companies are.

As for the show... I am not sure who it is aimed at... Wandavision felt like it dealt with more serious topics and tried to do so in an adult way without it being an adult aimed show... This however is meant to be TV-14 yet it feels like it was made for an 8 year old boy.

I tried to give it a go but given so many comic book adaptations have shown up the MCU... Doom Patrol, Resident Alien, The Tick, etc... Marvel makes awful movies. Their TV shows now ape their movies, as do their comics and the animations... Well... I aint a DC fan (I prefer the likes of Image, DH, etc) but they are winning in TV (Arrowverse has lasted longer than any series of Marvel shows, and Doom Patrol is killing it imo), They are winning animated by miles, with the new Justice League Dark series of animated features wiping the floor with anything marvel has put out in 20 years. Then there are the comics... Sorry but even with the new 52 DC stills is miles ahead of Marvel. And that isn't me saying "DC is the best" ... They really really really aren't.

I have not put any spoilers and don't want to but there is some dude on here claiming we are all idiots ("Pretty sure Some of the idiots in here") ... Okay may I ask why the capital s? And on. You are ON the internet, not in it. Maybe you feel "emotionally connect with them" because the characters are as dumb as you? No. I shouldn't resort to being petty.. You liked the show and good for you. I am sorry we aren't as smart as you. If we were I am sure them would "feel emotionally connect with them" .. But alas we are idiots that simply don't have your brainpower. This show must be like Richard and Mortimer. Only IQ 1000 people get it. I feel so sorry for us idiots thinking its all action with the first 11 mins being all action in the air as we watch falcon fly about above the gulf, dodging rockets and trying to rescue someone before entering Libya which isn't a no fly zone just that people should avoid it. And that is due to civil war and what has been going on in Tripoli... So not just egregiously bombastic in tone but also completely insensitive when it comes to facts and geo-politics... But as I said, I am just an idiot and don't have 1000 IQ. I also don't watch Rick and Morty, I don't think End Game is the best movie ever, I've never dressed up as something from Lord of the Rings and ive never threatened to hack someone over PSN or Xbox live because they were better than me at a game... I have a feeling some of the fanboys on here cannot claim the same... And I am guessing they are so prolific as lovers that they could be models for Richard Branson.

Harley Quinn (2019– )
6/10
Could have been the best.
20 January 2021
If I were reviewing on the first season and a half alone I would be giving this 9.5/10. But the second half is so bad that it warrants downgrading.

I went from binging, not wanting to take my eyes off, wanting to know what happens... To skipping chunks thinking "oh my god this is boring"

It goes from a funny Doom Patrol esq cavalcade of references and jokes, character growth and an arc to 2 broke girls. And it does this in the space of ONE episode. Harley literally goes from cool, chaotic, sweet and actually caring whirlwind of destruction to some simpering wreck from Glee. She goes from Tank Girl to Sex And The City. This happens between the end of one episode and the start of the next.

Watch the first series. And part of the second... But as soon as you get to "the kiss" do yourselves a favour and turn off that homophobic garbage.

2021 and now it's ok to suggest that all lesbians are lesbian because of abuse. That only broken people are homosexual. Please. What a load of RUBBISH!

The first series however shows you how a female lead superhero show should be done. It is very well done and the cast are perfect. The first season story arc is good. The cameos are also welcomed.

Such a shame they decided to go cliche and fall into a homophobic trope.

Don't listen to the other reviews!
7 September 2020
Okay so first of this show is an 8/10 but to combat the reviewers being... Yeah. Someone actually compared it to Fleabag... HAHAHA.

First off this is nothing like Killing Eve.... which in itself is a rip off of how many shows?

This is Brit comedy at it's best. It is well written and knows when to use it during a serious situation to full effect. The characters are believable with the exception of Kim (Masie Williams) and her Mother. Masie plays the part wonderfully.

The production quality is high, with nice use of colour to convey feelings of a scene. There are a lot of little things like that which make you realise this has all been well thought out.

The only thing you can say is that there needs to be more and feels like it could benefit with another series. This series is almost a set up. I don't want to spoil anything so wont say more.

Had me in stitches and one of the best Sky productions I've seen. And one of the best shows British shows I've seen in a while. If you like stuff like Wrong Mans then this is for you.

I would say this show can offend with the language. But all UK productions tend to be heavy on the swearing. This is a lot less graphical and violent than Game of Thrones though. And it is nowhere near as crass as the aforementioned Fleabag.

As for the brothers, on a last point. So true. As a geeky awkward person with an older "cooler" brother it was nice to see their bond. And I would have loved to see more of Kerry Howard as she has me in stitches. Her ability to do the "awww" face is second to none! hahaha.

If you give this show less than a 7 I think it means you don't like comedy and probably not a fan of anything with swearing in. Either that or you just didn't get it. Which is weird... Fair enough it not being your cup of tea. I don't like Dexter but understand it's a good show... People are so weird with how they review based on subjective things. HA.

Slow burner that end high!
8 June 2020
The pilot for this show was promising but lacked something and I wont lie the first 3 episodes kinda don't do the whole show justice. By the end you will be in tears of laughter with the very British comedy.

The characters develop and grow throughout the series and by the last you really care about them. The lovechild character played by Lauren Socha is so lovable by the end. In fact you want to give her a big cuddle.

This show excels in being a female driven comedy, without telling you every 5 seconds. Not one spice girl-esq cliche is dropped. The show Is a hoot.

That being said it might not be for some. There is no great story arc and there is a subtle amount of real world drama. Things never explode into the fantastical. Instead it sticks unnervingly close to real life. To some that might seem boring. For me I warmed up to the show and now consider it one of the best the BBC has done, alongside Him & Her, Gavin & Stacy and Uncle.

I refuse to give any spoilers, but the main cast are what make this. If you give it a chance you will see how lovely this show is. I am not a fan of Holly Walsh's comedy or other work, but for me she has hit gold with this. Caroline Quentin as the mad aunt is perfection rarely seen in casting.

Thank you to all involved. I doubt this will get a second series as Lauren Socha is a figure of attack during 2020... I wonder how history will look at the current time and it's inability to forgive. She is a white wale for their Ahab. I really hope it does and people see what a good actress she actually is. She was one of the reason to watch Misfits. And she is the breakout star in this.

Ok... What to say.

Warning: Spoilers
So I am watching the pilot episode now. And going to write my thoughts as I watch.

First off... The person saying this was created by Amy... Actually it is more Mike Scully. If you had watched it you would see that at the 29 second mark.

First impression are of the music... The theme isn't the best. And then we here a Gorilaz rip off song...

Then we get to the voices... Ok... This sounds already like it is trying to do the Bob's Burgers thing... Which works for younger kids and with really good voice actors. It has a feel that the character design and animation match. So far this is just generic design for characters... Easy to tell what animations the character designers watched when growing up *coughs*recess*coughs*

I will say that Amy sounds like one of the 6th graders from South Park... Or Jimbo from Simpsons... Scratch that... It just sounds like a girl now.

Oh... Okay. This is bad. Cringingly bad. And I am the kinda guy that gave Cleveland Show a chance... But this...

I love Parks. I love it so much... But... This is terrible. This is like Beavis and Butthead meets Cleveland show. I am 7 mins in and I have to turn it off. I have no interest in what happens. I don't care about the moral. tbh I had lost interest after that awful dream sequence. One that suggested a grown woman was gonna get sexually active with a minor.

In short. The animation is nothing special. The design and style is meh. The script is just turgid at best. The jokes are too juvenile for an adult yet too mature for children... Unless you think sex jokes are appropriate for 8 year olds. The voice acting really isn't great...

Maybe the bar has been raised by things like Final Space... Even South PArk has changed to have more pacing. There is nothing whimsical or warm and fuzzy about this show. Nothing really funny or thought provoking. There is very little in the way of actual development. Now you don't need ALL of these... But you have to have some. At the very least it should have ONE likable character. So far I have only met really bad ones.

Wish I could give this more... But it is truly the worst thing I have seen since ... Well... Im not Ive seen any animation that was this disappointing and just... bland.

Unique and English

First episodes are usually bad. This pilot shows promise but by no means is the best. So my review is comparing it to other comedy pilots.

This is for fans of comedy like Uncle, Witless and Phoneshop.

I noticed one other review from someone clearly not a comedy fan nor a nerd. This is for those that get British sarcasm. The lady reviewing clearly doesn't get awkward comedy, sarcasm, word play and dark comedy. It should be noted she also classes the latest Bridget Jones' movie as good and thinks tropes and clichés of girl power make for good stories. That should tell you something about their ability to review.

This is a loving laugh at the games industry and how a country famed for games devs is now reduced to mobile phone games. Also deals with the litigious nature of IPs.

great acting with a natural script.

Superstore (2015– )

Excellent humour that might go over some peoples heads
8 May 2017
I have to start with this... It isn't a serious or avant-garde. Much like My Name Is Earl and Parks, it is the little things that make. The absurd nature of it.

Superstore was a show I was reticent to give a chance. I find a lot of US based comedy hit and miss, and the trailers really didn't do it justice. When I recently gave it a chance, what started of slow had me hooked. The characters grow on you. there are even some genuine cute moments. Sure there are those on here saying they were expecting Scrubs... and that should warn you... They were expecting a comedy that in all honesty killed itself... But I digress, not here to talk about the major decline of scrubs.

This makes a welcome change to the dire Big Bang Theories and new girl-esq comedies that plague US TV.

As I student I myself did work first year in a place like this. And I have to say there are some similarities, albeit blown way out of proportion.

A must watch - but try to give it 4-5 episodes, and see the little jokes.
