Nanny (2022)
Utterly boring
I watched a whole film hoping it was going somewhere. It wasn't. For a Blumhouse film one expects some sort of creep factor. There wasn't.
As far as someone who has worked in home care settings where the employer is some sort of overbearing a-hole who wants to then not pay you for the work you have put in well worn hours for...again that could have been expounded upon but they let that fall flat as well. As if nanny's and caregivers should just accept being walked all over is totally ok. Cause you know times are tight and we gotta hit the ATM for the only cash we have (while the home is very well a million dollar home I looked on Zillo).
Maybe its a "she is an immigrant" thing. So we can crap on immigrants. Again. Not ok.
So we touch on the Anazi story, but we don't tell it well and we make him not to be a trixter but to be an evil entity. Md then make her now dead son's soul to be an evil entity. Sort of. Trying to harm an innocent little white kid.
It would more likely harm the bad parents (and the letcherous touchy dad), not the child...who didn't pay her in time to get the kid traveled overseas in time.
As well...the "trusted friend" just still flies to the USA on her money. FK her and I would call ICE and have her deported right then and there.
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (2022)
A more true story has never been told
I have never been blown away by such deeply researched history and factual story telling of a person I know personally. I grew up with Alfred and i can attest that I personally stuffed his hay boy so he could sneak out to the polka parties that we had behind our parent's backs. When he whipped out his accordion at our spin the bottle necking parties, all the girl's panties just fell to the floor. In fact Al often went home with at least 5 or 6 pair after every party. I mean, have you ever seen how swollen guys get after practicing ueats on end in the closet with an accordion...seriously!
Zaddyy Zaddyy Zaddyy in a Hawaiian shirt got Madonna easy.
The Hotel New Hampshire (1984)
Well if you want a strange film to watch
This thing makes very little sense whatsoever. The synopsis says a family opens a hotel in Vienna with oddball clientele. But in truth they start out with what seems to be a fairly successful hotel in the USA and are enticed to sell it and try to recover a very crappy rundown hotel in Vienna that is full of people who don't pay to live there and refuse to leave. These squatters are a combo of prostitutes and mentals who end up planning to bomb the Vienna Opera.
It has a top shelf cast of actors and actresses, and in fact has a very tiny Seth Green that you wouldn't even recognize.
But you have to swallow some crazy plot lines like commie-fascist terrorist comedy. And brother sister incest.
If you want to go, "well THAT just happened" about 6 times...then this is the film for you.
It does leave you with this continued mantra: to walk past the open windows. To not choose to give up on life. Which I suppose is a lovely sentiment. Because the main characters continue to have just horrible things happen to them, and they decide to either self destruct or act as if it never happened. Just, oh well...that's life I guess. They really aren't very good at dealing with problems whatsoever.
I am still sitting here wondering what the heck I just watched.
That somehow has this cast?
Truth Seekers (2020)
Watch for the humor
But maybe don't stick around for any of the attempts at discussion of witchcraft or ghosts or demonology. Symbolism is picked out of the air from here there or anywhere and tossed on the walls or books on set to be deemed as marks of evil when they aren't even from England. Norse staves and runes, Celtic knots, etc used as markings made on historic English walls by an accused witch. Seriously? Only thing missing was Baphomet and upside-down crosses.
Comedy. Nazis. Crazy scientists. Agorophobes. Comic Nerds. Doofy boss. Check. Those they got right.
Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made (2020)
Very cute quarantine watch
If you are stuck at home I absolutely recommend this very clean comedy!
