Fantasy Island (2020)
Got me thinking but rushed ending
The ending irritated me because I feel like it undermined what could have been a great thought provoking Movie. Now to what I loved about the movie:
The movie explores the human side of regret, resentment and how we become entrapped in the past, so much so that we lose our present.
we are prisoners of the past, resentful of all the wrong done to us. We are captives of our own imagination when we dream about different outcomes of past events. We are slaves to our minds when it starts asking What if.....?
every choice we make in life , is a crossroad and every-time you make a different choice a storyline is revealed and another alternative remains unexplored. The alternative becomes an untold story that disappears into thin air.
When we think of regret ... when we look back and say I wish I made a different choice , we are transfixed on that one immediate effect that we want to change; But we rarely think of what comes after, the butterfly effect of that choice. How this one diverge in the road will change the whole story because It will change all of the next chapters of your life. you wont be the same person you are today, you wont be in the same place you are right now. It Could be better or could be far worst.
Now the question : given the chance, would you rather accept your reality or go back , change that one choice and risk it all?
Now if you risk it all and get to see the other outcomes to your story , do you imagine you would say:
hell yeah I am so glad I rewrote this whole book! I have finally let go of all regret
Or
I hate this, this is terrible I 100% prefer my original reality. I am sorry. I accept my original fate. I want to go back ?
Heat (1995)
realistically bittersweet portrayal of humans
Everyone needs to watch this movie. Its an exploration of men, of the choices we make in life, and of relationships.
What I loved about this movie is that it wasn't just a crime movie with really cool heists without depth to the characters, it went way beyond that. it was about these realistic character's, what they value, their pursuits, and most importantly dysfunctional ways they form bonds with others. The movie explored several family/romantic dynamics in ways that I think was beautiful and so profoundly human.
it explores several questions and here of course their dilemmas are amplified due to the extreme lifestyles of criminals and cops. Your job or your family? As in the case of Vincent whose job is to prioritize other people's lives and save them so is it okay to give it his all? . Also, the dilemma how far do you go for your personal pursuit and goals? Does Vincent's end goal excuse his methods? When you are passionate about a goal how dedicated can you be before you are labeled obsessed or it becomes unhealthy?
I loved Niels. He was portrayed perfectly and got me thinking about the question of how far is a person willing to go for the ones he loves? Can a woman "change" a man? At what point do you choose yourself?
Major theme: Individualism vs the need for companionship
Sometimes you must leave people behind in pursuit of your own self, is that selfish?
At the end of the movie the choices they made were in line with who they were the whole movie and it ended exactly as it should have been. I liked this specially because the movie wasn't a cliché, at the ending no one acted "out of character" to get surprisingly this great oh everyone formed a family and was happy every after.
The Five (2016)
amazing series but rushed ending
I absolutely adored this series and I am so glad because I came across it.
the script, acting, and storyline all get a 9/10 and the cinematography was breathtaking
however I am a bit frustrated with the ending. it feels rushed and like after all of that we deserved a little more. at least One more episode that is an epilogue.
and it is making me angry now because I wanna know more. I wanna know what happened with certain character's relationships and so much more.
The Dead Girls Detective Agency (2018)
Its a trailer/tease
A snapchat production is so stupid. Im so so dissatisfied and so dissapointed cause I really want to love it. I love the story and I love the cast I think they are perfect but the whole show feels shallow and like it isnt a "real show" its so stupid. The production is disgusting.
First having to watch it vertical is annoying and I am unable to take it seriously
2nd episodes are 5 mins Its so shallow and feels like a trailer like you are waiting for the actual show with actual depth and characters that are not paper thin.
3rd switching between snapchats mid episode is not smooth and its so irritating to have those bumps mid watching.
Im so so angry cause Like i said I love the story and he cast I just need it to be longer and be treated like an actual show. Like the small fanfics teens write online where events jump and develop really fast without building it up
I really wish Netflix produced this.
It would be an insult to call this a series or a show this is a trailer or a tease
Sharp Objects (2018)
This is a cinematic masterpiece
I am awed by the beauty of everything that I feel speechless I can't express how much I have loved this.
the actresses were so unbelievably good specially the character of Amma I imagine its extremely hard to present such a complex character yet the actress was able to show all the facial emotions, swinging moodswings that seem really natural it was breathtaking to watch.
also the production itself - the music, the cinematography its all an absolute piece of art that captures the eerily atmosphere. I loved how this series was shot and its hard for me to imagine ever being satisfied with another series after this one.
now onto the story
Amma... oh amma amma amma what can I say. someone noted that Amma is just the word mama rearranged which I found absolutely fantastic because
she is literally her mother arranged in a different manner. made of the same negative emotions and the need to be seen publicly and be admired. shes truly her mother's daughter just expresses her violence/ negative emotions
also adoras name is basically the word adore. and I feel like this describes her character since she really just seems to adore herself
Never Let Me Go (2010)
Breathtaking and hauntingly beautiful
I came watching this movie expecting a sad love story but it was so much more than that and left me sobbing for hours afterwards.
I want to write so much about this movie and how brilliant it all was and I almost feel like I am not articulate enough to express what this movie made me feel. there was just something extremely special about this movie and it touched my soul in a different way.
overall the movie was a cinematic masterpiece. Every single element was perfect, the actors were all amazing and it was so natural I can almost forget that they are acting. I was greatly impressed by that because I don't find this in many movies. the aesthetics/colour schemes were perfect. and the music oh my god! the soundtrack of this movie will always bring me to tears its just so perfect.
I love the final message about not having enough time.
Kathy is just wonderful her facial expressions the way she holds her emotions, she does not express her feelings very openly but her facial expressions you can see her soul.
also, I think a true masterpiece is one where you understand the "villain" and feel bad for them because the characters are real and people are not all black and white
I read a quote before that says "hurt people hurt people" and I feel like that summaries Ruth's character. I spent the whole movie hating her but that scene at the boat where she is talking and the camera just shows her face there is so
much vulnerability and I saw a broken, scared little girl and it broke my heart because I understood her.
the scene when tommy screams at the sky will forever haunt me and I can go about it for hours the performance and the emotions then the way he grabs onto her oh god!
I found out that it was based on a book and now I will be reading it
