Reptile (2023)
Keeps you thinking
I'm a little surprised at the negative reviews, but then I guess that just proves that not all movies are meant for everyone. I liked that Tom (Benicio Del Torro) is a flawed character, that makes threats when he feels his wife is getting watched too closely by another man. That perhaps his past is not all that squeaky clean, but in the end he does the right thing. Yes the movie can be considered slow moving, but one scene leads well into the next and the next, so to me, it didn't feel slow at all. Complaints about the end not "having much payoff", (eye-roll) I'm not sure what people are looking for. Yes, there are some things left unresolved: Where will they find Eli? What did Tom say to Will at the restaurant? What did Judy do for a living? In the end, these things don't really matter, the main plot points are revealed (perhaps a little too quickly for me, but that's my age, not a flaw in the movie). Very good movie.
The Space Between (2021)
Pass this one by
I think the title should have been, "Cram as many f-bombs as possible into the space between". Ugh! It's too bad too, because there is some genuine good writing in there. At the core though, the movie fails to find its heart until it is too late. Yo writers, if you're going to have ugliness in a movie, you need to balance it with beauty. If everyone has been tainted with the ugly stick, no one is going to care what happens. And I certainly didn't. Pass!!!
