Scream 4 (2011)
10/10
Poetic Cinema!
27 October 2020
Scream 4 is my favorite (after part 1), one of the best slashers I've seen (the movie is super underrated) ! A film that was undeservingly overlooked. It is so fun and really adds new elements to a concept that had been played out 3 separate times. This is horror satire at its best. It is so funny, while also thrilling with a side of some genuine terrifying scenes. If only we would've done it justice we could've had Wes on 5 and 6. The Scream 4 opening is so brilliant. I miss you Wes Craven.

The Invisible Man (I) (2020)
10/10
Gripping, intense, and expertly crafted!
28 February 2020
Watched « The Invisible Man » tonight and yes believe the hype ! It was really great. Surprisingly great. A lot of great camerawork that emphasizes the open space and vulnerability of characters. Griping tension, unexpected twist & turns. This film is gripping, intense, and expertly crafted. It's everything the trailer promised, and the performance from Elisabeth Moss is perfect. It is the best horror/thriller movie of the year (so far). With all the misfires from horror/thriller films we got in January this was a needed breathe of fresh air.

Queen & Slim (2019)
10/10
Really great movie!
16 February 2020
The story of the impossible love between 2 black individuals surviving in an America turned upside down and divided by social friction (and police violence). This film is just overwhelming, dark and magnificent at the same time. More than a simple committed and ironic road movie, embodied to perfection and produced with fervor, « Queen and Slim » is a fiery and necessary plea for the gaping cracks of a dying America. A first magnetic film, brimming with generosity and pressing anger.

A turnip !
15 February 2020
"Nightmare Island" is a turnip of competition, which represents the worst of Blumhouse, of the modern genre cinema. Just one laughably bad movie.. A horror movie that breaks its own rules several times, unlikeable characters, oddly paced, & over stays it's welcome. So disappointed because of the potential in the premise, but make your fantasy to skip this one.

Birds of Prey (2020)
9/10
It's fun, it's crossed out and entertaining!
14 February 2020
I was waiting for "Birds Of Prey", even if I dreaded the cold shower at the "Suicide Squad", and it exploded my expectations ! It's fun, it's crossed out and entertaining. Margot Robbie explodes the screen. I ask no more. The film never takes itself seriously or more intelligently than it is. Conclusion : so "Birds Of Prey" is not just good, it's very great. One of my favorite DC movies ever. I want to watch it again and again. The film is incredible and don't let salty men who only care about the sexualization of female comic characters tell you otherwise.

Mediocre..
13 February 2020
I accompanied a friend to see Sonic, well it was very bad. A film for a soulless child, with a boring script, ugly special effects. However, I managed to appreciate Detective Pikachu, but here it is just not possible. I put a generous 3/10 because it could have been worse, and I was happy to find Jim Carrey in a hysterical role.

The Grudge (2019)
4/10
Generic horror movie!
20 January 2020
I went to see the new American version of The Grudge, and it was a big disappointment (even if I was very suspicious). The film is not faithful to the universe (The Grudge is not The Grudge without Kayako), the tension does not work (it is a jump scare film). The narrative is such a sloppy, scattershot mess that minces tone, because there's some proper spookiness here... Visually, the film is successful: the realization, the photography and the plays of light. Pesce knows his way around atmospheric horror and shadowplay. And I liked some of the scenes that worked... But nothing beats the film with Sarah Michelle Gellar and the Japanese films, who were really scary and weren't all betting on jump scare. The Grudge (version 2020) is a generic horror film..

A masterpiece of horror art, genius!
18 January 2020
The ORIGINAL Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a cinematic masterpiece. No other gore/horror movie can compare to the magnificence of that film. No amount of viewings will ever acclimatize me to the brilliant morbidity of Tobe Hooper's movie. The first Texas Chainsaw Massacre managed to create something in a style that is a masterpiece, the cinema « realistic / documentary » style, the creepy atmosphere, set design & performances... all of which created a unique and unforgettable cinematic experience. I had the chance to see the film in theaters in 2017, ans it was really great, even if I had already seen it dozens of times. And I saw it at 12 for the first time (I watched it secretly on Halloween night), and it was very intense and traumatic, my best childhood trauma since Jaws and Scream. Unbelievable, one of the best moments in my film buff life.

A masterpiece
10 January 2020
I think Mad Max Fury Road is a masterpiece ! Any director even thinking of directing an action film should be made to watch it. George Miller is a genius. What an amazing film, visually stunning and a pared down script that is superb, is one of the greatest cinematic achievements of all time !

Frozen II (2019)

Boring and... Boring!
9 January 2020
I found this sequel boring, mostly because of the bad songs every 5 minutes (none left in mind). In my eyes, the only qualities are in the visual, Disney is always at the point of technology, but the magic did not oppor for this film. It has no idea what kind of tone it wants; but the serious stuff is incredibly boring. The writing is really what kills it. The dialogue is so forced and very few jokes landed for me. No characters changed by the end.

Underwater (2020)
8/10
A simple and effective concept!
8 January 2020
« Underwater » aka the film made two years ago where Kristen Stewart confronts critters from the hell of the abyss. It's easy, it's cool, it's tense, it's well done, and it's highly recommended for any fan of this kind of program: Alien, Abyss, Deep Blue Sea, Life and Leviathan (1989). A real pleasure, too rare to be shunned. He takes a few codes from these films, but offers something new (in his mix). The film is really guts. Like « Crawl » last year, « Unterwater » turns out to be a tight, visceral and sensitive B series, which goes straight to the point. Claustro and mysterious atmosphere at will, production design in « Bioshock » sauce, without forgetting an excellent Kristen Stewart , it is always a pleasure to find this actress. A good surprise very oriented « horror film » !

Angst (I) (1983)
9/10
Perverse, but with too idiot characters.
1 January 2020
This German horror movie called ANGST (1983), which was supremely perverse and upsetting, but also featured some absolutely insane cinematography/camerawork for its time. The actor who plays the killer is excellent and scary, but the other actors are not convincing .. the characters' reactions are stupid. And the whole thing has aged badly. This film deserves to be watched for its realization especially. Dark, unsettling, brutal.. but with too idiot characters.

Fun and appealing!
26 December 2019
I grew up with the first two films, I was happy to find this fun and quirky universe (childish limit but so funny). This new version remains in this spirit. And this new trio is excellent, but not as iconic as the old one. Kristen Stewart is very adept at comedy, and I want to see more of it, it's like this role is create for her (she's really an actress that I love more and more). In conclusion ? Charlie's Angels is a fun, goofy action film, that celebrates female empowerment with some bad-ass Angels in Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott & Ella Balinska. Stewart stole every scene and clearly had a ball. It's not perfect, it's predictable, but it's a fun popcorn flick.

The Lighthouse (I) (2019)

A good experimental film!
23 December 2019
The Lighthouse brings film to a state of heightened madness. The camera work & eerie score sucks you deep into the belly of the film's insanity. The performance of the actors is extraordinary, Robert Pattison confirms that he is one of the best actors of his generation. The film is not at all rest, on is embarked on a whirlwind where on feels the madness with the characters, where on feels the weight of loneliness. A good experimental film that will leave no one indifferent.

Where the far right leads..
18 December 2019
Must be one of the most shocking movie experiences I've had. A freezing and terrifying film, very difficult to watch as it is trying and realistic.. on events of 2011 which one must never forget.. « Utoya: 22 July » is a taut, tense and deeply humane one-shot recreation of the terrorist attack tracing one young woman's viewpoint. The perpetrator is never named. The soundtrack is impressive. This film is both memorial & warning.

Parasite (2019)

Everyone needs to see this movie!
17 December 2019
This film is a masterpiece, a cinematic slap. Parasite is cinematic perfection. It's not just my favourite film of the year, it's in my top 5 of my best movies of the last decade. Just when you think you know what type of movie it is, it suddenly becomes a completely different movie when you least expect it. Crazy, funny, incredibly smart. I loved it. I've tried to keep my review to a minimum because the less said about this movie the better, everyone needs to see this movie !

A cinematic masterpiece!
17 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Call Me By Your Name (2017) is such an aesthetically pleasing movie to watch. It's iconic it really shows two souls connecting it's a raw pure love story regardless the gender and the way Timothée Chalamet displays every emotion without saying a word shows he's a phenomenal actor. The shots are so beautiful and exquisite. The ending scene with Timothée crying in front of the fire with Visions of Gideon playing in the background. That is all. Beautiful. A French critic (Cinéma Teaser) said that the film was "Beautiful and heartbreaking like a first love", I think we can not describe this film better. Masterful and poetic film, the best movie of 2017 !

6 Underground (2019)

Stupid and fun!
16 December 2019
6 Underground is such fun ridiculous ride ! A blockbuster under ultra violent cocaine. It's Michael Bay-hem turned up to 11, with Ryan Reynolds humor and an insane 20 min car chase to open the film. Always as many cuts, shots and product placements but also a lot of humor and self-deprecation. The opening chase/gun scene is easily one of the best I've ever scene, the rest of the movie is a little long. Turn off your brains and enjoy. It was so much fun.

Halloween (I) (2018)

Halloween 2018 is a worthy successor to the original!
16 December 2019
Halloween (2018) is a direct sequel to the original 1978 slasher. Which means plot from all the previous sequels, reboots and remakes throughout the years have been ignored. It's actually a really good movie imo it was one of my favorites last year, and my favorite horror movie. Halloween (2018) is way better than Halloween 2 (1981), there I said it... even if I really like the sequel of 1981. Halloween (2018) is the best made Halloween movie since the 78 original. Without forgetting that it is one of the most overtly feminist horror films of the past few years. A real success !

Halloween (1978)
10/10
Ultimate horror masterpiece!
16 December 2019
Halloween (1978) is one of very few horror movies that contains no gore, very little blood and not much violence, proving you don't need all of that to make a horror movie scary. As cliche as it sounds, they don't make them like that anymore. Subtle horror at its finest, slow burn scares, smart character writing, extremely tense sequences that still hold up to this day. Directed by John Carpenter and introducing Jamie Lee Curtis in her first starring role, this atmospheric horror/thriller redefined the genre. Carpenter's score for this film is iconic, it's spine-chilling theme about a sociopath murdering just because is executed with resonant simplicity. Carpenter's masterpiece still reigns supreme in horror !

The Morning Show (I) (2019– )
10/10
The Morning Show is excellent!
15 December 2019
The Morning Show is a brave story about the narrative of the abuser and the victims, each one's truth and in conclusion, how we all been complices of the culture of abuse. Excellent portrayal of the complexity of workplace sexual abuse. Not all sexual trauma is overtly aggressive and violent (which is often portrayed in films). All awful of course. But this show really highlights the implications of power. Simply impressive, I can't wait for the next chapter! And ... OMG! I love Jennifer Aniston and especially Reese Witherspoon who is still so wonderful (Jennifer gets the best role in her career). Thanks Apple TV !

Epic Movie (2007)

The worst movie...
15 December 2019
The worst movie I've ever seen ! Unfortunately I saw this film at the cinema with my little sister, I was 13 years old at the time. So horrible, we left before the end... It was a very painful experience. The worst part is that we were very young, and at that time we liked stupid films like "Scary Movie" for example, at least it was effective and funny for young people. "Big Movie" is never funny, not even a little. And to say that I gave money to this joke, that it is sad ... surely one of my biggest mistakes of youth.

Dark and beautiful at the same time!
15 December 2019
Joker was AMAZING!! I was so blown away at how accurate they portrayed mental illness and the background that caused it all. Everyone is battling something we know nothing about. Be nice. Joaquin Phoenix is amazing in this role!! I was sad everytime he laughed though... Plot twists give the Batman universe a tragic, completely believable origin. I also like how the pacing went from slow to chaotic throughout the movie! The aesthetic is dark and beautiful at the same time, and I wish the next batman movie will have the same atmosphere!

A Masterpiece!
14 December 2019
Titanic ... what a movie! What a masterpiece! I've seen it dozens of times, and I'll never get tired of it. I always end in tears at the end. I find it underestimated by some, it is really a great cinema film. The achievement is magnificent, the casting is incredible. Thank you James Cameron ! This film is already 22 years old, and it ages very well. Timeless !

Once of the best slashers of the 2000s!
14 December 2019
Black Christmas (2006) was the first of two remakes of Bob Clark's 1974 proto-slasher, this one directed by former X Files and Final Destination writer Glen Morgan. That it doesn't even come close to the original probably goes without saying... But I'm not sure why people hate it. The film is terribly effective and entertaining! The gore scenes are excellent. After that, it is true that the scenario is a bit stupid and predictable. And there is no political message, unlike the original or the version of 2019. But personally, I find like this Black Christmas one of the best slashers of the 2000s.
