Paper Girls (2022)
Fantastic progressive show!
Paper Girls is fantastic! It's a modern show that shockingly nails the drama genre within a sci fi premise, while also being funny. The acting is superb which is even more impressive considering how young the stars are. It's got diverse representation in the cast and has action sequences without being gross. I love that it stars four girls - shows with multiple female leads are still starkly rare. The music is also phenomenal. It's a subtle pick me up or elongation of suspense. Very well done! Paper Girls is refreshingly progressive as well as entertaining! I really hope another network picks up Paper Girls for season two. I'll be watching!
Supergirl: Kara (2021)
A holistically fitting farewell - well done!
I've often said that even a great series can struggle to create a decent series finale. A season ending is one thing, but to end a series seems to be difficult for many a writing team. I thought Supergirl did a mighty fine job with theirs. It was on brand, touching, had action, but didn't have action ad nauseam. I always appreciate it when all the relevant characters come back for the finale or are at least referenced, and they did a good job of that as well - a very nice touch.
Supergirl is a series that has taken social justice stances very seriously, and I thought they did a great job wrapping that all together in their finale as well. I won't say spoilers, so I won't mention the story editing blip I caught, which brought a potential 10 down to a 9, but regardless, I think the writers, cast and crew did an overall great job with a big task. Thank you for all the uplift over the past six years. I appreciate you :)
Charmed (2018)
The right mix for the times
I've been thoroughly enjoying the new Charmed since it started. No doubt it is a left leaning show, and I appreciate that it takes a stand and doesn't make a bland appeal to the masses. If this isn't your cup of tea, no one's forcing you to watch. I'm sad to see how much negative publicity is going back and forth between the original and this reboot. It's a real shame. I think the original had its place when it aired, and I loved it at the time. Now, watching it in syndication alongside the new one, I absolutely love this reboot and think it is clever, entertaining, educational and empowering for modern times. I love that it stars three women of colour. This kind of representation couldn't be achieved by continuing on with the original cast. It's also really cool to me that one lead is Canadian, one British and one American. Keep up the great work writers, cast and crew! I'm in!
Charlie's Angels (2019)
Fast Paced Fun!
This movie was fantastic! It streamlined the genres of action, comedy and just enough suspense while still being lots of fun. Kristen Stewart had a lot of good lines and she was not the only one. Well done Elizabeth Banks and thank you for making this film! The world needs more fast paced, funny feminist films like this one and I can't wait to be there in theatres.
