The Bold Type (2017)
Seasons 1-3 👍
I absolutely loved binging the first 3 seasons. I enjoy anything with a feel good vibe about women empowering other women and great female friendships. I like the pace, the side characters, bouncy dialogue and a glimpse of NY life.
I had heard the show was to be cancelled after another season and after watching season 4 I can understand why. It's like they've run out of good ideas and have become lazy after all of the initial character development. Shame. But I loved it.
Coming 2 America (2021)
Nostalgia factor
The rating is purely for the nostalgia factor as it was so great to see many of the original characters and cast. I really wanted Patrice and Darryl to show up. The new additions blended in and matched the energy, especially Wesley. Shame not as much of Queens in it and not a lot of plot or main character development. It didn't have the slow charm and more subtle comedy we got used to. A testament to the original, that nothing can match it, and I really want to go back and appreciate it again.
Four Weddings and a Funeral (2019)
Perfect Romcom
I'm not a Romcom fan at all. I started this very indifferently as I was bored. I ended up binging the whole thing, laughing out loud many times and crying multiple times towards the end. It was predictable at times but loved all of the character arcs and the unexpected comedy that came with not taking itself too seriously, which made it special.
The Serpent (2021)
Gripping- can hardly believe it's true
This was fantastic. Completely transported me to another time and place. So engaging-I felt the desperation of Dominique, the frustration of Herman, the evil of Charles and pure creepiness of Ajay. I liked the time hops as it built up the story effectively. A chronological timeline wouldn't have been as engaging. So hard to believe this was true. I could not stop watching. Highly recommend.
Bridgerton (2020)
Great casting but dated plot
Firstly, there were black people in 19th century London!! So I can't understand why people find it so distracting to see POC cast in nobility, it is fiction, not based on true events. Personally I find it way more distracting to watch historical movies set in foreign countries, where the all of the actors have American accents. And we all know certain religious figures were not white but don't have a problem with them being depicted as so.
But unfortunately this was a watered down period drama with a weak plot and shallow characters. Some trash tv in corsets. Which was a shame.
Younger (2015)
Binge worthy and fun
This was meant to be my time passing TV background watch, but turned out to be my obsessive binge. Loved it. I have to say Liza doesn't really pass as as a 26yr old, mainly because of her dated makeup and clothes.. also surely you'd be tempted to get a touch of Botox..? But that aside, I find it relatable on many levels and I love the premise, which as far fetched as it is, is entertaining. The pacing is on point, so you see the chemistry between characters and feel the consequences when they find out the truth. I like how none of it was rushed. Liza wasn't quickly forgiven and you feel the change in dynamic. In the UK so only seen up to season 4, so gutted we have to wait for the rest.
Always Be My Maybe (2019)
Keanu saves the day
I am a big fan of Ali Wong from her stand up and American Housewife so was excited to watch this. It was so cliched that I would liken it to romcom in it's infancy. No chemistry between any of the characters and none of Ali's razor sharp wit.
Keanu was just genius and he uplifted his scenes with his screen presence, which is exactly what was needed for the rest of the movie.
Modern Family (2009)
Going downhill...
I would give this show a 10/10 up to season 7ish but the decline in script, acting and storylines is feeling tragic.
Seems to be no continuity in the characters, slapstick "humour", and the wit is just not as sharp as it was.
Only plus point to the new season is they seem to have forgotten to write Lily in.
