The Music Man (2003)
Not the same as the original
Disney remakes tend to be closer to the stage version than the original movies are. Most of the cast of this movie are Broadway veterans, rather than movie types. That may account for why some people don't care for it. Personally, I thought the music was better in this one.
Serenity (2005)
Serenity as Sci-Fi
What I noticed first about the movie is that it borrowed certain ideas from Star Wars, not an uncommon feature of more recent Sci-Fi movies. I did not watch the Firefly series first, I would suggest doing so before viewing the movie. This movie is best enjoyed if you don't worry about the plot line, just sit back and watch the action. It's not making a statement, it's just filling the screen with action. A perfect Sci-Fi movie to relax with.
Oklahoma! (1999)
Noting the differences between the movies.
First item is that this movie was made from the stage play. There is always a considerable difference between stage and screen versions. This version will be closer to the original. Second item is that the casting here is better. Hakim actually looks Persian. No one would mistake Eddie Albert for one of those. Second, Ado Annie looks more like an oversexed teenager here. Vicki is a better singer as well. Overall, I like this version better. Just takes a while to watch it all.
Pompeii (2014)
Newest Pompeii movie
The story line in this movie is similar to previous movies, gladiator rescues rich woman. The battle scenes are well done, and the special effects look like something out of Star Wars. I suggest the way to enjoy this movie is not to get too wrapped up in the plot, just sit back, relax and watch the action roll out to you. Good movie.
Rogue One (2016)
Sad Ending
I enjoyed the movie very much, but I find it unusual that all the main characters died in the movie. The tie-in the very first movie was good, but rather quickly done. It's too bad they couldn't have let some of those people survive, they were more interesting than some of the later ones. But, I suppose all the years of experience have taught them plenty about character development.
The Oregon Trail (1976)
Historically inaccurate
The writers should have set this show a few years later than 1842. In one episode they have deserters from the Mexican War of 1846. In another they're racing a California bound wagon train to a supply post. No wagons went to California in 1942. Setting it in 1850 would have made the whole series more believable. The writers should have read their history first.
