The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005)
Now this is "The perfect comedy"
When you see someones list of their favorite comedy movies, you hear names like Dumb and Dumber, There's Something About Mary, American Pie, and all the other raunchy classics that everyone loves. The 40 Year Old Virgin will go right up there as one of the best.
This movie is funny, raunchy, offensive, everything that we're all looking for in a comedy. There is rarely a serious moment in this movie and when there is the laughs come roaring back. Steve Carell's performance in this movie is brilliant, call me insane but I even think it's Oscar worthy. The whole cast in this movie are all funny. This movie is WAY better than Wedding Crashers and I think should have won the MTV movie award for best movie. Sadly, popularity is always chosen over what is better.
This was easily my favorite movie of 2005 by far, 10/10
Wedding Crashers (2005)
Not enough humor, too cliché at times
Many people have called Wedding Crashers the funniest movie of 2005 and I agree that It is funny but I completely disagree with it being the funniest of 2005.
Wedding Crashers starts out great, lots of laughs, completely raunchy, the works. I thought that the laughs were never going to stop coming, but they did. For me it was Owen Wilson who ruined the movie for me. When him and Rachel McAdams have too many of those cutsey cliché romantic scenes. By this time during the movie there were almost no funny scenes what so ever, although I credit Vince Vaughn for a few laughs that saved some scenes.
So I'll give this movie a barely passing grade of 5/10 because only about half of the movie was funny. And I think that you'll agree with me when I tell you that there were funnier movies in 2005 than Wedding Crashers.
American Gun (2005)
American Gun a.k.a Crash
For starters, In regards to MICDI and claiming that American Gun was made before Crash is wrong ; Crash had already started filming in late 2003 and finished in early 2004. While American Gun didn't start filming until the summer of 2004. Just to clarify American Gun is a film about the lives and 8 people and how each of them are affected in different ways by guns in America. This movie is almost exactly like Crash with the exception of a little Bowling for Columbine mixed in. I did not enjoy this movie, it focuses too much on one type of class of people. It does not show how other classes of society are affected by guns in America. But I guess thats what you get with a movie that is just a little over and hour and thirty minutes long. Another thing i thought about this movie is it didn't have enough good actors (with the exception of Donald Sutherland and Forest Whitaker). So if you want a movie that shows emotion and depth the whole subject of the movie, I suggest that you rent Crash. And THEN see American Gun, you will notice a big difference.
