meditative

Life lessons from Abbas Kiarostami for a world based on the hurry and the continuous need for change and stimulation.

If you try to see the film when you are in a hurry you will think that this is a joke without any respect for your valuable time.

If you have any expectations from the film for something to happen you will be disappointed.

In any case why to spend 1+ hour for something that the scene change too slow.

It seems that the dogs in the shore enjoying more than us the simple things, leaving the time to pass by. Sitting lazy. We will stop the film and be in hurry to move in the next chapter of our lifes that has to offer something always better than the present moment.. Or perhaps sit and meditate this simple moment for what it is.

(Although personally I don't know the connection with Ozu)

"Otto" vs orginal "Ove"
5 July 2023
Because I read in many reviews that the original film "A man called Ove" is better than this one. I have seen both.

There are many same dialogs and characters in the films but they are not exctly identical.

-I can say that both movies are good. With their plus and minuses

  • The "Otto" film is more commercial.

  • In the "Otto" film the commedy tones are more. In the "Ove" the drama is more profound.

  • I like Tom Hanks but in the original Swedish "Ove" film the main actor (Rolf Lassgård) in the role of Ove plays so good.

  • personally I am finding the background music better in the "Ove" film.

  • I think in the "Ove" film the director did better job.

In the big Guatemala City Garbage Dump are living many hundreds of people , by looking into the garbage to find something to eat or sell. Sometimes a cat or a small dog can be found alive , thrown away with the garbage.

If you think that the film is not brilliant try to see it again.

Before years, when I've seen all of the films of Woody Allen, I ranked this film as a 6/10. Now that I am seeing all of them again (without subtitles this time) I understand that this film is from the best films of Woody Allen. I think that in order to understand and I appreciate his films you have to see them at least 2 times. The main actor of the drama scenes, Martin Landau, plays his role so well. He seems that he is really suffering with the dilemma he confronts. In order to keep the film from becoming a heavy drama, Woody Allen , plays a role that gives some moments of laugh.

A masterpiece. We will be just bones one day
10 December 2021
I have see many movies of Kiarostami. I can say that he is my favorite director, although I discovered him accidentally. All his movies are jewels. If you like to enjoy magical photography, excellent played role from the main actor and to confront with the idea that "we will not exist in this world one day" then the movie is for you.

7 Up advertisement
7 September 2021
The only moment that the script is honest, with the whole commercial movie, is the point where it advertises 7 Up, at the judge's office.

half good half bad
30 April 2021
The first half of the movie is a nice story with only the few necessary violent scenes. The other half is like a different movie. The story goes a generation back. Like a repeated story. Very silly, meaningless fights that disobey the laws of physics , blood and violence and worst than all it takes more than the half time of the movie. It looks like its only purpose is to make the movie just longer in duration in order to advertise the next movie of the series and attract the audience that is thirsty for bloody scenes. This is also obvious from the last scene in the movie.

Although I can not refuse that they did very good job in graphics.

So good played

The actors are playing so realistic and so good! How they can do this! ....I suppose it is the director's sensitivity and eye.

The music and the photography in this film is so artistic

An unexpressed love story. The film has a mix of sadness and sweetness. The melancholic two main characters bind nicely with the music and the photography.

1000 euro bonus vs the job of your coworker
8 April 2021
Marion Cotillard plays so well in this movie. Very simple movie but very well played with low tones.

The movie deals with two themes

1. Ethical. Do you prefer a bonus 1000 euro instead of your coworker to keep hers job?

What you will do in a such dilemma ?

Do you vote for the bonus?

2. The psychology of a person that is recovering from depression. The feeling of low self esteem. The feeling of worthlessness. The despair that multiplies in the mind with the first difficulty. The difficulty and shame to ask from someone to not take a bonus 1000 euro and vote for you to keep your position.

11 short independent played vignettes.

Different tables, different people, addicted to coffee and cigarettes. Some interesting dialogues but not all.

Eye catching is the so well played Cate Blanchett's double role. ....And of course Roberto Benigni's role. (but I am fan of Benigni)

disappointed

If you see the movie for the photography and the music it takes 10/10. But if you are expecting to find a movie with a plot or a script for a story or a strong connection between the scenes or a meaning in the dialogues you will stay unsatisfied. For me it is not fair to have so good rating as the other movies of Kieslowski .

A diamond

Perhaps you will find that in the beginning the movie has so fast dialogues. And it continues through out all of the movie. So if you are foreigner (like me ) you will find difficult to catch all from the subtitles and perhaps you will say not worth to see. But if you insist, sooner or later you will start to understand the beauty of the movie. It needs to see at least one more time to start seeing all the surrounding that you missed first time by looking at the subtitles. The characters are so good in their roles! The photography unbelievable! you will enjoy seeing it again the next day. I had years to see a such moving movie.
