Firstborn (1984)

It has aged well
16 May 2024
Saw this at a sneak preview when it first came out in 1984. It is still a great watch today in 2024. Proud of all the performers in this. Was the first flick for Corey Haim, RIP. Was expecting Collet to have a big career after this. I'm just glad that he still performs and seems to be doing okay. This was the first time I saw Robert Downey Jr. On screen. Boy did he go through a lot after this and throughout the 80's, so great he overcame that and has his awesome career today. I'm sorry that I'm blathering because they require a whole lot of characters to leave a review. Hopefully Teri Garr is being taken care of.

A better disaster flick than you're expecting
15 April 2024
So if you're in the mood for an airplane disaster flick or a shark catastrophe flick, this one will satisfy all that but it is at least a cut above what you're expecting. There's some character development, and they're put through lots of tension, and the ones left in the end, had to have balls of steel to do what they had to do to survive. I'm not saying it's genius, but if you like this genre, its better than you're expecting. No big stars, but you've got Colm Meany, and an Attenborough descendant.

There, almost got 600 characters but not quite so I have to keep writing. So, how was your day today?

Fun!

They had sizzling' chemistry. It was well cast, and the romance was written better than your typical rom-com. So I recommend watching. I need to add more words here or it won't let me submit, watch this film for easy enjoyment. Their temptation for each other was sizzling' hot.

2 hours really?
25 October 2021
Since when does a common Lifetime type movie need to be two hours? Would be so easy to tighten it up. Thank goodness for the fast forward button. I need to get 150 more characters in here. So what up? Extra long padded Hallmark movie here. Good thing it was free.

I've seen worse...
10 September 2021
Well I was about to write that it's not as bad as these reviews. Bruce Willis forgot his acting ability. He does the strangest line readings, the Jaime King character who seems to be playing a smart woman but does some really stupid things. The guy playing the corrupt sheriff wanna be, well, his performance was bad like he was doing a parody and in a different movie. In the ending scene the writers seem to think that police dispatchers can be promoted to patrol suddenly for being a good person. Without going through the applicant process, testing, background checks and completing the academy. But yet still, I don't think it was quite as bad as most of these reviews. 4/10.

3rd Season without a brief synopsis of where we left off?
27 May 2021
Okay, so I gotta rewatch some of the ending of Season 2 to remember what happened? Really?

Watch it for the humor
10 November 2020
This film does not seem like a comedy, but then they start talking, and this is some of the funniest dialogue I've heard in a horror film in a long time. There is a silly and very bloody thriller going on that will keep you on your toes, but it's the wit that makes this one worth watching.

Loved it again, 10 years later
5 August 2020
It was just as charming as the original. Jaden brought the personality and humor even as a bullied teen, just like Macchio in the original, but Jaden has the better acting skills. The other aspects are similar, the lessons at first so tedious, til they weren't, learning the self discipline with it and the cultural aspects. Chan was great, the girl adorable, with their friendship more innocent due to the younger age. Then the very satisfying ending. Bravo! Held up for me ten years later.

Not enough romantic tension
3 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So she was traumatized by the past when he stood her up for a date In a careless way back in high school. Okay. Now in the present, 10 years later, he is all eager to be with her. Their only obstacle is her mistrust because of the past. Not strong enough. They needed a romantic rival to be in the way or something. Just one persons opinion.

Why couldnt it just be a miniseries?
7 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
As I started this, I hoped the story would just be all wrapped up in the ten episodes. Unfortunately, from these reviews I think that's not going to be the case. I'm on the second to last episode and I can tell it's not gonna wrap up. This was entertaining but frustrating to watch. And I'm sorry that Pope, the academic black kid blew his chance for his dream and looks like will be headed for a criminal future?

Too many stories in one eppy
12 May 2020
Each episode introduces a story, tells the beginning of it, then introduces another story, then another, then another, and we're supposed to keep up with all of them. What a dumb format. When you care about the happenings of one story, then that's cut out for another, and several stories later they go back to the first one, you no longer care.

As decent as any other thriller in this genre.
18 March 2020
I felt it was a decent watch for a thriller. Yes there was an I am woman hear me roar message, but it's not as though there are too many thrillers with that message. There is actually hardly any, so it's ok with me. A lot of reviewers here can't get over that it's not a third remake of Black Christmas with the same plot and same villian. They should try hard to get over it. Then again, perhaps it could've been given a different title so as not to piss of these kids.

Bookstore scene
10 March 2020
At about 11 mins into the movie, when at the student bookstore/cafe, Molly suddenly started yelling repeatedly that the studious young black guy had a gun in his backpack because she wanted to empty out the place, not caring that he could likely get shot up by the cops, I had to turn off the movie on principle. What stupid writing. From these other reviews sounds like I didnt miss anything.

Twists...
8 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The preview may lead you to think you're in for a supernatural thriller or a horror flick. It isn't. It is, however a thriller with several twists that will keep you watching. A solid 7.5 or 8.

Why not start at the beginning
2 January 2020
The movie starts with a bunch of women in a boat in trouble. Why not start with how they came to be that way. We're not invested in who they are or what they're trying to do.

Enjoyable simple but original film
15 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed it. Plot that I hadn't seen before. Lead actress had to carry a lot with her gorgeous and interesting face. After watching her learn a lot all by herself, being crafty and industrious, we find out later that she has a negative back story as a pathological liar and drama queen, that was all fine for character development. A reference gets thrown in about her lying before about being mugged, shades of J. Smollett, a biracial black person like this one, not sure that was needed. Enjoyed the film, though. Recommended.

Spoiler alert!
14 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Always fun to watch a daring indie film, this one did not disappoint. Several twists in the film. In the end though, I felt that Isaac was selfish for his reckless action to try to force a confrontation that Tom didn't want to have. Isaac just needed to get over the heartbreak and move on.

Certainly held my attention
14 September 2019
This was a close look at the case of the murdered Andrew Bagby, and then a look his parents in the aftermath, and his baby son. But I happened to be used to true crime writers who also take a measured look at the murderer's life. Shirley was certainly an emotionally disturbed individual, but in this story we don't find out anything about her beginnings, or any attempt to look at what may have lead to her becoming this way. I surmise this is because this story is presented by a person who was a dear part of Andrew's life, and he, of course, came to detest Shirley Turner and was not interested in a humanizing look at her. I can understand this. This is not the story I would get from an objective true crime journalist or writer. This is just a look at the family, and it is well done for that. I have not read the victim's father's book, Dance With the Devil, and I would suspect that to be full of wonderful detail about Andrew and Zachary, and the Canadian authorities huge failures here, which make me angry, but also no insight into the very disturbed Shirley Turner or her other potential victims. So for a more full understanding of the case, I can research it on the net. However, this documentary was very moving for what it was.

Weird film
20 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Was she FBI or Department of Defense. DOD has their own investigative agents, why would she be working their cases? And why would she leave the FBI because she doesn't like the types of cases she's been working when she could just seek to transfer to a different squad to do different type of field work?

Female clients?
11 August 2019
So we're supposed to believe a giggolo could make a living with female clients? He would starve to death. We all know he would be having male clients.

Very decent watch
11 August 2019
This is a drama, not a thriller. It's a very decent watch. Only nitpicky item: Mischa Barton apparently had a hairdresser and colorist when she was in prison.

I strongly recommend don't watch
8 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Just camping with a crazy maniac hunting and killing them one by one. You don't get to find out what that fool was all about. And why did the blonde apparently have a hidden hairstylist who made sure her hair was freshly blown and curled each day. None of the chicks wore their hair for a camping trip. Long hair or weave down and swinging everywhere.
