The Majestic (2001)
Slow motion car accident of the heart
It's like watching a slow motion car accident waiting for it to happen because you can see it coming but you just can't look away. And then, you get really sad but then you get really happy because everyone survived. Basically, I very much enjoyed this movie and would definitely recommend it, especially if you are a Jim Carrey fan.
Stake Land (2010)
A decently shot pile of warm trash
The effects were fairly decent. The vampires were alright. The acting and situations were pretty atrocious and cringe worthy. I'm not surprised at all that the main character (the old man) was also one of the writers. His character was so unbelievable (in the bad way) and I'm quite sure he wrote that character to make himself look good and made it extra super duper bada**/cool on purpose. This movie really tried to get me to take it seriously but it fell so short.
Infinity Chamber (2016)
Heartfelt
It was an interesting ride watching this movie. At times you will think you know how things work and where things are going but they might just surprise you. I liked it a good bit. Always a big fan of artificial intelligence in movies, especially when a character interacts with them and there is some good rapport.
Beyond the Black Rainbow (2010)
Unsettling and weird
Probably the creepiest and most unsettling movie I've ever seen. I was hovering between rating this a 6 or 7 before the awkward and sudden ending which left it a 6. I think they nailed the 80's vibe in all aspects. I may give this another watch at some point while drunk or high.
Serbuan maut (2011)
Cool little action flick
It isn't perfect but it was a surprisingly nice action flick. Lots of good combat. I enjoyed the fight choreography the most but the story wasn't terrible either. Worth watching once although I'm not sure that I'd watch it again or not. Maybe.
Cast Away (2000)
A classic for sure
Let's not pretend this isn't an excellent movie, because it surely is. I'm just a little too young to appreciate it fully. If you have never seen this movie then you should surely watch it.
Click (2006)
Tears for this movie?
Yes, I know this movie isn't perfect, but damn, did it steal a place in my heart. I watched it when I was younger and was moved. Now that I'm older and re-watched it, it still is able to bring tears to my eyes. The comedic beginning really helps make you less prepared for the more serious middle/end. I give it an 8. Please enjoy with or without family.
Mr. Nobody (2009)
Artistic, thoughtful, and beautiful
This is probably the strangest movie I've ever seen. It goes everywhere and nowhere. It frustrates me in ways but I can't help being amazed by how beautiful I find it. It's well worth a watch and possible even multiple watches.
Sound of My Voice (2011)
Artsy fartsy with some cool mixed in
I really didn't think I was going to like this movie but by the end I was pleasantly surprised. It left me thinking and wondering which is something I really enjoy getting from a movie. It's a bit artsy and snobby in my opinion which is why it wasn't perfect but stick it out and you may be pleasantly surprised by the end.
Primer (2004)
Pretty good time travel movie once you understand it
This is not an easy movie to follow or wrap your head around and it's not perfect but once you do start to understand it then you can appreciate some of the complexities and quirks. For how low budget it was, I think it was really well done. The storyline and main character interactions were definitely the best parts of the movie. You will likely need multiple viewings and possibly even a youtube explanation video to really appreciate it though.
X2 (2003)
Would have been an 8
It's very surprising to me that this movie is a 7. I rated the first movie a 7. But they just had to make the personal interactions as lame as they were.
Who the fuck acts like that so quickly about someone they birthed?
Is that woman mentally challenged? If that is the case then this movie is legit an 8 out of 10.
Seoulyeok (2016)
Most dedicated debt collector ever?
The beginning and middle of this movie were decent. Not perfect by any means though.
The zombies were a bit strange to me. They seemed robotic. Meandering around and then suddenly swiveling their heads to lock onto people that they just happen to know are there. Also, the lunging onto people and then the other zombies completely ignoring the freshly downed human flesh didn't seem realistic to me. Is there a one zombie per person rule I should know about?
The worst part of the movie though, and least believable part, was the dude pretending to be the father the entire movie and then being revealed as some person trying to collect a debt. Are you serious? The fucking zombie apocalypse breaks out and you are that determined to wade through a city of the undead and punch policemen to find a girl that owes you money? Hahaha.
Overall, I find that last part of the movie to not only detract from the quality of the movie but also add some comedy that wasn't there before the reveal.
Watch Train To Busan if you want a really well done foreign zombie flick and leave this one for the bottom of the barrel.
Interstellar (2014)
Excellent space movie
The visuals were amazing. The tech was amazing. It's a great movie for sure. Although I do think they played a little loose with some of the science. Overall, an excellent film and definitely worth re-watching on occasion.
Rammbock (2010)
Not terrible but could have been better
This wasn't a perfect or high quality movie by any means but it was worth a watch. The zombies were pretty well done actually. There were some quirks to them that I've never seen done before so that was interesting. Unfortunately, I also found that the dialogue and interactions between characters didn't flow well or sometimes weren't very believable. Overall, If you enjoy zombie movies, then I'd say you should give it a watch.
Ang-ma-reul bo-at-da (2010)
Interesting enough
It wasn't anything special but it had it's moments. Definitely a good quality movie and worth a watch if you're into crime dramas. Would I watch it again? Maybe. I liked a few parts of the movie more than others and they'd probably be worth another watch through at some point in the future.
Altered States (1980)
Takes you on a trip
Talk about a trippy movie. Don't see a lot of movies like this. It's enjoyable, thought provoking, and most definitely an excellent film for it's time. The makeup and effects were well done. Tasteful nudity is also appreciated.
The Village (2004)
Interesting. Somewhat thought provoking.
This was an interesting movie. Definitely wasn't what I was expecting which was kind of nice. It was fairly beautifully shot. Had some intriguing characters and a good cast for sure. I liked it overall. Left me deep in thought about the world we live in and whether I'd give it up or not.
Odd Thomas (2013)
Stupid, Cheesy, Cringe
I can't believe how cringey this movie turned out being. It honestly surprised me. From start to finish it is filled with cheese and cringe. It tries to be serious and/or clever and falls short constantly. I wouldn't be surprised if the director had a team of teenagers on standby that he was consulting and pulling ideas from throughout the filming of this. The best thing about the movie is Addison Timlin in her underwear. Serious kudos for that outfit choice.
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Classic but underwhelming
I do feel bad for not enjoying this movie as much as a lot of people seem to. I think me being so spoiled by modern zombie movies and culture may have something to do with it. For it's time period, it was pretty well done and I definitely noticed how many things current movies have borrowed from it. That being said, I doubt I'll be watching it again. There are plenty of better zombie movies to spend my time on.
Los cronocrímenes (2007)
Time Travel and Consequences
What a ride. This movie was intense and not necessarily in the fast paced action kind of way. It makes you think about consequences of actions and unchangeable truths. The word dreary comes to mind but it was such a worthwhile experience to have. Well worth a watch or two.
Frailty (2001)
Slow to start but an enjoyable experience
Wasn't sure If I was going to enjoy the movie based on the slowness of how the story progressed but I'm very glad I stuck through it. The ending of the movie was my favorite part. Have to love when a twisty ending sneaks up on you. Anyway, I'd recommend it. If for nothing else then to see how serious and foreboding Matthew McConaughey looks when he's about to swing an axe.
