Big Ball (1983)
A wonderful Showscan movie
This was one of the movies that Showscan produced for the Showscan theaters which were located in 4 Showbiz Pizza Places around the country. While it had a plot, it helped to showcase the incredible visual and aural experience of Showscan.
The Showscan film process showed a 70mm anamorphic film at 60 unique frames per second, in a short-throw theater with a bright quartz-halogen light. This produced incredible realism on the screen. This movie showed many scenes of dune buggies, with cameras mounted on them. This movie was produced prior to the Showscan movies with the articulated seats. This movie is probably not available for viewing anywhere.
Night of Dreams (1978)
One of the first ShowScan movies
This movie was one of the first ShowScan movies that Douglas Trumbull created. It featured many different scenes, that showcased the incredible visual and aural experience of ShowScan.
ShowScan showed 70mm anamorphic film at 60 frames per second, creating extraordinary clarity, brightness and contrast to the film presentation...resulting in a very realistic image.
One of the most amazing scenes from this movie was when lighting strikes a tree. I ran the projector for this movie several hundred times, and it never failed to make people jump in their seats. This was my favorite ShowScan film.
