Survive the Night (2020)
What happened!?
Wow. Just... what happened here? You had a great cast and a decent plot but everything else was AWFUL. The story when it came down to it was weak and full of plot holes. The acting was terrible, even from Bruce Willis. The effects were decent, the score was great and there was a good car chase, but those are the only good things about this movie. This was anti climatic and just all around something that should not exist. When the title is survive the night, take that as "survive the movie". It's only 89 minutes but it feels like it never ends. I'd rather watch The Turning (2020) again than this. It starts off okay but goes downhill faster than 2020. Spend your time and money elsewhere.
Halloween (2018)
I love it!
This is back to basics and I love it! The psychology damage that Michael put upon Laurie in the first one shows and it's just great. John Carpenter returns to produce and score and the way this is shot and directed is great. It's fast paced and never is boring. Michael's new mask design is great and all in all this is a very good movie. The end was very good and the score, I must reiterate, is amazing. I love this movie, just like the original.
Halloween II (2009)
No.
Screw this. This movie is and always will be one of the worst things I've ever seen. And that includes Holmes and Watson (2018).
Halloween (2007)
No, no and no.
I don't like Rob Zombie movies and I'm going to be holding that strongly for a long time if not ever. The first part of this movie, which shows Michael becoming the monster he is known, is great and I love it. But when Michael is the stalking killer, it's just a grittier version of Halloween (1978). Like someone took that and drug it through the dirt.
Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
Doesn't deserve all the hate it gets.
There are great moments in this movie and it doesn't deserve all the hate it gets. Some of it is necessary, mind you, but most of it isn't. There is great humor and a unique idea that really makes the movie worthwhile. Great kills too and the movie feels ahead of its time with the live-streaming. Busta Rhymes and Tyra Banks are obnoxious, but Busta does have a good scene with Michael. All in all I like this movie, despite all the negative things about it.
Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)
I really like this one
Fresh in the wake of Scream (1996) this is a fresh, teen, horror-comedy slasher... and I love it. Only one or two dumb decisions made throughout the whole movie, the return of Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode and her mother, Janet Leigh, making a cameo. LL COOL J is the security guard and he's fun so is his wife. The idea is very good and the acting is outstanding. Some of the best of the series. The humor really lands with me and this movie is just good. The ending is amazing and a great conclusion to the Halloween saga! (Only to be retconned and ruined in the next movie)
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
This is... not good...
The Weinstein brothers have made this movie terrible and it's just bad. The acting, characters, cult of the thorn, plot, story and writing. The only thing I like about this movie was Paul Rudd. This was his first feature film and he nailed it with his craziness. Let's just say, if you're gonna watch this, set aside some good time to cope with your poor decisions.
Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)
Eh
Mute kid. Stuttering kid. A friend who was just introduced and why are we supposed to care about her? Loomis is absolutely insane and it's not good. The Myers house changed and is now a weird Victorian home. This movie is just bad with a REALLY weird scene in the beginning that make it look right out of a cartoon. All in all this movie isn't great and so I don't know what to say about it without being too negative.
Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
Okay sequel
Goodbye Laurie, hello Jamie. One of the best things about this movie is the amazing kid acting from Danielle Harris as Jamie Lloyd. It's never forced and it's never over the top, like it is in the 5th. Michael's mask looks dumb and the retcon used to bring back Loomis and Michael from their deaths at the end of Halloween II was also very upsetting but it was made up with decent kills and a cute dog. Many of the characters are jerks and they all suck but the police are good and there are some good lines. Loomis has started his decent into fully crazy and it's not a good look for him.
Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
I LOVE THIS!
I. Love. This. Movie. This is my favorite of the series and it's just so great. It's insane, convoluted and full of plot holes but that just makes it better. The cast and acting is amazing as are the special effects. Who doesn't what to watch an evil toy maker kill kids with Halloween masks? I know I do! This movie is just so fun, enjoyable and entertaining that it's so redeeming of the previous, negating factors. Additionally, that Silver Shamrock Song is annoying as all hell but it's still catchy and is what makes the movie. Along with Tommy Lee Jones doing the voice of the TV announcer for the Horrorthon and all around damn this movie is amazing. I could go on an on and I love it so much. The major thing that I don't like are all the bugs. There are too many bugs crawling out of the characters faced when the mask kills them. I still love this movie so much.
Halloween II (1981)
It's okay
This movie was written by John Carpenter after studios insisted he write it so every day he'd sit down with a six-pack and just wrote till he passed out. And man does it show. It's just the same things with a nearly unconscious Jamie Lee Curtis throughout the whole movie, dumb character choices, poor acting, and just the same thing as the original. I did like how it takes place right after the last one ended and I do like Ben Tramer's kill. I also liked the slightly changed theme and it's good. But I don't prefer it too much.
Halloween (1978)
YES
This is a classic for many reasons. From the amazing and iconic score to Jamie Lee Curtis in her first film to Michael Myers being amazing it's just great. Sure, it has its flaws like any other movie, including a slow second act, but once Michael starts to attach Laurie, we have iconic scenes, amazing filmmaking, payoff of shots of the houses and THAT AMAZING SCORE! The way Michael is so stalkerish and super human is great and just damn I love this movie.
Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019)
Fun movie
After just seeing this I can say that it's better than I expected. I hate action movies so I wasn't sure but the humor and the story were both great. The cameos from Kevin Hart and Ryan Reynolds we're so funny and perfect in the movie. Ryan Reynolds in general was so perfect as always that it was a great point to the movie. The action sequence near the end, where there were nearly no guns, was so great and I loved it. All in all this was a good, funny movie.
Booksmart (2019)
Eh
I don't really know what to say about this movie. It was funny and all but not that memorable. The acting is great and all but the plot and the script only gets good close to the end at the third party. I think it's about an hour and ten minutes in or something. When they get to the final party, really.
Face/Off (1997)
Well then...
Okay. This movie didn't need Nick Cage to be kept on a leash for once. John Travolta on the other hand did. He was crazy in this as the... i don't know how to explain it, but it's good. The whole premise of the movie, while illogical, is good and the effects are good. The script has some good jokes and some fairly serious moments. For not being an action movie fan, this is surprisingly good, even if it is confusing at times. You really feel it for Archer too at times. Troy really makes you mad.
The Invisible Man (1933)
Finally!!!
Finally! A Universal monster movie that I like! The humor is great, especially for the 30s and, while the author of the book, didn't like the addition of the love interest for The Invisible Man, it's still a good movie. There are great special effects and this movie is just all around great. The only reason it's not higher than it is is because the middle of the movie is pretty slow. Whenever the man is seen, the movie isn't that great.
The Lion King (2019)
Pretty good
While I've never seen the original, this was a good movie. Some thing I didn't like were that the words didn't always match up with the characters mouths. Another thing I didn't like were the amount of useless scenes in the movie. I know that those were present in the original as well but they can still be cut out. The animals looked great and they actually "filmed" in Africa. There was also a fairly subtle Beauty and the Beast reference from Timon and Pumbaa that I liked and all throughout Zazu, Timon, Pumbaa, Kamari, and Azizi were our comic relief and they were good at it. This was a good movie undoubtedly and I don't really know what else to say about it.
The Thing (1982)
I love it!
This is easily one of my favorite movies. The building dread throughout and the acting are all great. The way ever character is written and the uncertainty played throughout is great. The practical effects are amazing and this movie is just all around amazing. I don't fully know what else to say about it, it's just an amazing movie with so much ambiguity. I could watch it again and again. Even through the slow parts of the movie, it picks back up shortly after so it's not that noticeable. Even though this is a remake of The Thing From Another World (1951) it's great and not really a remake at the same time. I love this movie.
Paranormal Activity (2007)
ok
Found footage is generally all the same with this being slightly different. It's still not great the acting is the only true good thing other than the scares. Micha is a jerk to Kate and is just a douche other than a few moments. That's really all I have to say about this. There's nothing really that good.
Paranormal Activity 2 (2010)
Eh
Here's an unpopular opinion: this is better than the original! It has more and better scares and the acting is good. Many of the characters are likable and even the ones who aren't, aren't ones you're supposed to hate. The chemistry is very good and so is the humor. None of these movies are that great so it doesn't change much of anything in this one though. The humor and connection to the first movie (this being a prequel) and all in all it's pretty good.
Bloody Birthday (1981)
Just okay
This movie is decent. Got some nice kills and a nice ending. Confusing plot and bad acting drags the movie into the dirt though. I never learned any of the characters names and there was a sheriff Brody (as reference to sheriff Brody in Jaws (1975)) and the score in this was like a knockoff score if the Psycho (1960) and Jaws (1975) scare combined into one. The movie was still good though, when if it made no sense.
Dolls (1986)
Great (surprisingly)
Killer dolls and killer clowns are some of my favorite things in horror. This combined both. There were only 8 characters, so, 50% of the acting was good and the look of the dolls was cool. The effects to move the dolls was good (for the 80s) and the reason I don't say great is because when one of the dolls was burning you could see all the strings and when a character jumped through a window, the window was cracked before she even touched it. The plot was a little weird and the way the characters get turned into dolls was weird and all around I didn't understand much. The kills were good and, again, I like creepy dolls.
Yesterday (2019)
Love it!
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's funny as all h*ll and is consistent with solid acting. I'm not one for drama or romance in movies but I'll be damned if this movie didn't do it well. It was so good and you really felt for Jack and even for Ellie sometimes. The humor again is something I have to touch on again because it was really subtle at times and was never right in your face. The characters were cute and there were some fun and fairly unexpected "twists" near the end. This was great.
Crawl (2019)
Better than I was expecting
First things first, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. It had some solid jokes, decent gore, great jump-scares and intense sequences. The actors were all doing great, including the dog, Sugar. There was only one good kill though and there were some pointless characters, only there to set up things for the climax of the film but it was still good. They also did a great job making it look like an actual hurricane. Overall the characters made some bad choices and weren't the smartest, but that doesn't detract too much.
Stuber (2019)
I love this
This movie is by far one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. And, what's even better, it's funny without getting stupid or boring. The movie does feel a little slow and dragged out at times but it was only for a short while. The movie was funny while still having heartfelt moments and stuff. Crazy amount of swearing, some male nudity and pretty violent at times but that's it. All in all it's a great movie.
