Over the Garden Wall (2014)
The quintessential Autumn anime
In a nutshell, this series is quite literally beautifully perfect on all levels, at least for me. I love holiday anime, mainly the vintage shows like Rankin-Bass and Charlie Brown's era, with a few notable "modern" shows like Garfield's and Billy & Mandy holiday episodes. The Garden Wall series is holiday anime on a completely different level --truly intended for adults who tend to be wistful at this time of year, remembering years and people past, longing for those "emotionally-experienced" things we recall once existed when we were children and can now only remember....some good, some sad, some (hopefully very few) bad....the Wall series is simply beyond words -- an experience that reaches into your soul...gently awakening long ago childhood memories of love, wants, needs, sharing, loss, fears, despair, and such wrapped in a ever-delightful elegant anime. Yes, real children can watch and likely enjoy the series also but IMHO this series is best enjoyed and experienced by adults.... You will laugh out loud, weep, giggle, feel exasperated, tremble right along with the characters in the series, so settle in on a particularly stormy Autumn night and indulge your senses in this wonder.....
Spook Chasers (1957)
Just not the same
I wanted to love this movie, like all the other Bowry Boys featuring Leo Gorcy, but the spark is simply not there. The storyline was good as well as the script itself, the direction was good, and the rest of the cast were good but without Gorcy it just did not have the timing or spark that Gorcy would inject. Not to say that Huntley didn't do a good job, but its almost like he tried too hard to not be a Gorcy standin all the while essentially being a better-looking and younger Gorcy wannabe. The entire time I kept thinking what a treat this could have been if only....oh well, see what you think....
Bogdan Boner: Egzorcysta (2020)
Polish version of South Park meets American Dad
So, yes, I am predisposed to love this given my undying love of South Park and American Dad, plus the fact my dear mother was Polish (so I speak a bit)....this is an extreme and totally irreverent adult animation series similar in styling and content to South Park and American Dad. Worth a watch if you are a fan of adult anime...
End of the World (1977)
Even I wouldn't watch this drivel
So,big normally take reviews with a ton of salt since I tend to enjoy most "B" movies. However, this movie is truly almost unwatchable due to the disjointed script and plot, poor effects and sound, poor image quality (the image is so dark it is almost impossible to view many of the scenes), and (other than C.L.) the "actors" are subpar...... This is a movie best watched in the background, while doing your taxes.......
