Diavlo (2021)
Confused and Irritated
I am so sick of movies with these obtuse, leave it to the imagination endings. The last 3 horrors from 2021 that I have watched have ended this way. So utterly frustrating.
A slow burn film which could have been interesting and ended up not.
I shouldn't have to end a film and Google it's explanation. I'm left with nothing but questions.
What was the point of the orphanage scenes? Unexplained. Who was Dwayne, how did he get there, what did he know about this family?
Who is Cherry, how did she get the necklace. Who is the little boy she keeps seeing? Why was Cherry effectively raped by her grandfather? So much pointlessness. The end just leaves us hanging.
The Stand (1994)
What can I say that others haven't already..
This is one of Stephen King's most epic stories, there are others, but this one is probably one of the first. It is the forever-told story of the battle of good versus evil but without CGI, gimmicks and unrelatable characters. This story frightens you to the core because of how real everything seems to be. It could in fact happen tomorrow, to all of us, any of us. King is not an overly religious man, from what I have read but his ability to tell stories with religion deeply ingrained, amazes me. He does it from a standpoint rarely seen, if at all, and doesn't force the reader/watcher to believe any one thing but to just, think, perhaps deeper than they ever have before. However, don't be put off by the 'deepness' of it all, it's got enough comedy, action and adventure to still be an 'easy to watch' film with mates on a Friday night.

Why I'm not giving it a 10 out of 10
Firstly, let me say, I am a huge Stephen King fan and a constant reader since I was 11 or 12 years old. IT was one of the very first books I read and one of the first horror movies I watched. I actually watched the original before going to the cinema to see the new one and I was not disappointed to see that they had kept very much to the original story and even surprised me when they stayed in the original era rather than modernising it. However, call me nostalgic, but it was just not the same without Tim Curry and that's why I can't give it 10/10. Silly to some, maybe but I'm sure there's other 'elders' like me who felt the same. Other than that, the kids acting was 10/10, storyline 10/10, dialogue 10/10, clown acting 8/10, it was just a bit too much at times but overall it has left me anxiously anticipating the final chapter.

Tim Curry Cannot Be Replaced
9/10 because its old and cheesy. Not the best horror Stephen King ever did and most will see this and Carrie and believe they know his work, but do not base it on those style films alone. Stephen King's best work is when he dives into the darkness of human kind and takes you with him. But this review is about the original IT and this is an iconic movie regardless of how out of date it may be now. I would suggest anyone going to see the new one, see this one first and even read the book if you can. Tim Curry is one of my favourite actors and his role in this film is in my opinion, what makes the film. Compared to the clown in the new film, he is by far the best for the job.
