Home (2019)
One hour long but almost left early
The acting is wooden, the plot is boring, the budget must have been in four figures. I give it one star for the actress who played Maya.
An untraceable sickness leads to the sudden death of a small town Best-Selling author 'Katherine Wells'. Brought back to life after enduring a life-altering out-of-body experience, her two daughters Sydney and Maya face a family darkness inside of their home. Superman & Lois (2021)
It's not meant to be a soap opera
'Superman and Lois' stars Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf) and Elizabeth Tulloch (Grimm) as the world's most famous superhero and comic books' most famous journalist, dealing with all the stress, pressures, and complexities that come with being working parents in today's society.'Superman and Lois' stars Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf) and Elizabeth Tulloch (Grimm) as the world's most famous superhero and comic books' most famous journalist, dealing with all the stress, pressures, and complexities that come with being working parents in today's society.
Oh dear no. He's supposed to be a superhero saving the world and fighting crime, not sitting at home talking about family and television. For crying out loud get a grip.
She Will (2021)
Atmospheric and haunting
I enjoyed this very much. It's a move from the usual CGI laden, Jason type, kill loads of students films, that we're getting a lot of lately under the guise of being horror films. An aging actress goes to a retreat after a double mastectomy and experiences the spirits of the burned witches some centuries before.
Acting was very good. I've liked like Alice Krige since her outing with Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly in Ghost Story (1981) . I think there was a nod to that movie when she sat up screaming in the bath again.
Not too much story or dialogue but the plot is put across with decent acting and great visuals. The music is quite catchy too, in a creepy way.
Very good, I give it a nine.
Hex (2022)
A bit spurious
I kind of enjoyed this as the story developed properly in the last half hour, but it seemed to be based, from the beginning, on a rather spurious urban legend which I'd never heard of and suspect doesn't exist or is highly unlikely.
I think the film could have been done better using the last half hour but with a better earlier story. Skydiving? Not so much!
Some lovely aerial shots and the acting was quite good. They were really let down by the plot which is very slow moving. Suspend disbelief? You may be a bit stretched on this one.
Overall I give it a 4. Could have been a decent film with a better storyline.
In Isolation (2022)
Very lacking
I watched it for 15 minutes before turning off.
The acting is poor and the dialogue on the audio track seeming like it was from a different film really distracted from what was going on.
I'm not sure how or why dialogue is dubbed on after completion of scene production, probably because the sound on the set isn't clear and sharp I expect, but they could at least have had the voice actors say the lines that they said when shooting the scenes. Were the actors' voices not good enough?
It was like watching an ad break where all the ads are foreign but dubbed into English to save money.
It's a one from me.
Moonfall (2022)
Very entertaining
A good story and it worked well. Are we getting back to good film making? I hope so. Yes there were areas of PC and underlying social statements but negligible compared to many recent films. I enjoyed this.
Beneath the Surface (2022)
A five minute story streched to an hour and a half
Poor acting, poor direction, only two production sets if you count a swimming pool with the lights turned off as one.
The lead spent most of the film crying and not very convincingly either.
Mother/Android (2021)
No, not for me this one
Mother/Android? Zombie/Robot? You choose,
A very, very slow film which starts with a politically correct signalling of a mixed race couple and gradually decays into a movie with a missing story.
Other than the survival of the child, which we assume from the terminally boring and unnecessary end sequences, there is nothing to see here.
Silent Night (2021)
Quite prophetic
Excellent film. Very funny. The language is quite strong even from the children but I suppose that's quite common now although I'm not sure it needs to be included so much.
Since this was completed mostly before the covid nonsense, the storyline is very dark and apocalyptic and does suggest we may not be told the truth about anything as many people are now coming to realise.
Fisher (2021)
Stopped watching
Far too politically correct. I don't need it pushing in my face. Concentrate on story please you're distracting the audience with virtue signalling. I lasted 20 minutes.
Hideout (2021)
Too slow to keep attention
Probably 30 minutes too long. I understand tension building but it takes too long. I skipped 20 minutes but I was going to turn it off. I don't think I missed anything. Acting ok from most except Bryan Enwright.
Old Henry (2021)
Excellent, very refreshing
It's a while since I've had goose bumps from a film but this did the job.
So many new films are utter rubbish, the same tales rehashed again and again but now with lots of PC.
This took me back to the world of good films. More please.
V/H/S/94 (2021)
I enjoyed it. Not a bad anthology
It's not bad. A good selection. My favourite was the mad scientist. Plenty of gore in most of the offerings. Horror films are, sadly, becoming very much the same with not many new stories out there nowadays. This was refreshing.
Familiars (2021)
Needs staying power
A challenging watch. Seemed very much like a student's submission to a 2nd year film studies assessment. Special effects are something I can do using video editing software and a green screen.
The lead actress is good but let down by poor direction. I hope to see her in some other films.
Risen (2021)
So slow
You'd be forgiven for thinking this was a straight-to-video Sci-Fi Channel video given the quality of effects and what is it with directors and actors stretching out movements and dialogue? Is it to get the film to 90+ minutes? This was a decent idea, nothing new, but had potential to be a better tale. Turned into a hard watch.
Bleed with Me (2020)
It was a long watch
It wasn't bad but it wasn't very good either. A bit slow. I paused it to make a brew and actually forgot to put it back on as I went googling for something else to watch. I watched the rest and was, overall, unimpressed. I don't know who made it and I didn't know the actors but they were good. I hope they get a chance in something better.
Aftermath (2021)
Distracts from the story
This had potential. The story and the acting were ok but the social commentary and PC casting are extremely annoying and distract from what could have been a good movie. Screenwriters please note: You don't have to mention white supremacy it's boring now. Try to create better dialogue.
A Young Man with High Potential (2018)
Slow burner that keeps your attention
One of the best films I've seen for a while. I wouldn't say it's horror. It's a dip into the mind of someone who loses self-control. Well worth a watch.
The Toll (2020)
Enjoyable movie
I thought it was good. The horror film scene is pretty much burned out now with no new story lines but this was well worth a watch. Kind of Twilight Zone but I always loved those. I'll give it a 9.
Asylum: Twisted Horror and Fantasy Tales (2020)
Please don't make any more like this
Without a doubt, the worst film I've seen for a long while. Boring, disconnected, pretentious.
Die in One Day (2017)
How did this get to production?
This film is mostly meaningless.
A contrived storyline, poor acting and an extremely annoying and unsuitable soundtrack add up to one of the worst films I've ever forced myself to sit through.
If you like Kraftwerk you might give this two stars.
The Rizen (2017)
Not carried away with this.
Very repetitive throughout and a major let down for an ending. Don't make this your Saturday night film to watch. The killing of the zombie type creatures is repeated over and over, ad nauseum. I got fed up half way through and was hard pressed not to leave before the end, which I should have done.
