The Phantom of the Opera (2004)
Amazing!
Without a doubt the best musical I have ever seen. The realistic sets, the angelic voices, the depth of the story, the mystery behind the phantom... simply fantastic. It's not the kind of movie you just watch and then forget. It ends leaving you with a feeling of amazement and warmth for what you have just experienced. Gerard Butler is becoming one of my favorites. The man is so awesome in every role, either that is a manly king warrior, or a charming mysterious phantom. I see a rising star. As for Emmy Rossum, I personally couldn't think of anyone better for the part of Christine. She is so beautiful and sweet. Minnie Driver gave an excellent performance, a very demanding one as well This has to be seen by anyone who appreciates art, because this is cinematography at its best!
Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place (1998)
Good show
I found this sitcom to be pretty funny. Thats mostly because of Berg who is just funny as hell. The rest of the cast was OK and Sharon was hot. What I really didn't like was Pete. I found the character really annoying and I noticed a serious contrast between his behaviour in some episodes than in the rest of them. Also I thought that the actor Richard Ruccolo was clearly overacting, thus making his role less realistic. I enjoyed watching the show especially the 2nd season which filled my boring hours during summer. Its not as good as friends but its a good choice and should be watched by anyone who likes standard funny sitcoms
Gladiator (2000)
A marvellous comeback of the roman era movies
Gladiator is an extraordinary classic film. Its one of those that will be watched and talked about 50 years from now. Maximus is a Roman general who is framed and betrayed. He ends up as a gladiator fighting in the great Colosseum. The whole story is about the fall and rise of the hero, an honourable man who is motivated by a thirst for revenge and a promise he once gave to the emperor. I remember when I was in school reading about the element of adventure in Greek plays. Adventure is : "the change from happiness to misery or the opposite". If this is right then this movie is one of the most adventurous movies ever made because it is based on this description. About the movie now, the acting was breathtaking by everyone, the directing was amazing giving the film a live, fast action character. The battle at the start of the film was exceptionally good in therms of realistic features, sound effects and especially music. Later on the graphics used to recreate the Colosseum were the greatest I had seen until that time.
Cannot be missed
An American Haunting (2005)
Disappointing
When I first saw the trailer of the movie I got really excited thinking that a real story like that would become a movie. Personally I don't know the actual story and facts. What I do know however is that this film failed to deliver any meaning or emotions to the viewer. Like most of the "post-village era " movies, the fear is created ,not by the plot , but by the sudden " surprises" that always come with the same slowly rising music. Furthermore, the film is basically the same thing happening over and over again. I wont even comment on audio effects (i.e the slapping). A thing I liked about this total mess was the acting which was as expected good due to the brilliant cast.I especially liked Donald Sutherland. I have to say one last thing about this movie. What was the deal with that teacher? Was he a retard or something? He insisted that in a 2x2 room someone was holding Betsy and slapping her, although 4 people were a metre away and couldn't see anyone. But whats really dumb is that, even though he didn't believe in this ghost stuff, he was the first to start a conversation with the spirit. What a load of c***!!!! What made me realise how bad this movie is, was the fact that when it was ending, all I could think was how much I missed watching those stupid " teenagers have a party, parents out of town, killer kills with no apparent reason, teen hero suddenly becomes a man and fights back" movies.
Hostage (2005)
Die hard 4!!
Bruce is back as we know him. I cool skillful cop with a disturbing past! I'm not saying that the movie wasn't good. I believe the creators achieved to make an action movie mush less predictable than other movies.
However, whatever ups and downs appear in the plot, the pattern remains the same. Criminals, hostages and their saviour Bruce! I think he must really like doing movies like this one, his whole carrier started like this.
About the movie now, the acting was not great, not too bad but not great. The guy playing Mars did a great job since he was the most convincing actor in the film.
I don't believe that a movie of this genre can be graded more than 6. I give it a 5. Enjoyable film, if you like the kind you should see it
