Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2023)
Stunningly well made
Reviving my faith in humanities ability to make a decent fantasy series!
Almost every character feels accurate to the book, I only have a problem with Dionysus because the actor always plays a dumb comic relief, and some of the acting can be stiff which is forgivable since the cast is mostly very young.
After the abysmal movie adaptation I'd lost hope this series would ever receive a faithful adaptation, thankfully I've been proven wrong. I can barely remember the books but watching this version is unlocking key memories from my teenage years, and honestly even without the nostalgia this show is phenomenal on a level I don't think any other teen fantasy drama tv show has achieved.
Mr. Robot: whoami (2019)
DOMO ARIGATO MR ROBATO!!
Best intro in the series.
This episode was absolutely perfect in my opinion, too bad the episode after face planted a bit.
Been waiting to hear Mr Roboto used in the show since it came out, busting it out like that while they're obviously doing a Back to the Future homage was just too perfect.
Mr. Robot: Hello, Elliot (2019)
Very disappointed.
The ending to the best live action thing I have ever witnessed disappointed me so much I almost cried.
Spending WAY too long on the "reveals" in the section with Krista... It was so cliche.
SO MUCH has been left up in the air... did Whiteroses machine ever have any merit? What was that thing Wellick came across before disappearing? Why did the same noise play when he was dragging Elliot around after shooting him as when he disappeared?
With just how over explained certain things were and how loose the ending felt... Like what about Dom? What about Fernando Vera's crew? Why was Shayla not in Elliots prison?
I can not fault the technical aspects of this episode, it's still made by the god king Sam Esmail, the new coming of Stanley Kubrick so it's a visual feast at the very least. Hence my not rating it below a 7.
I don't feel like there's some hidden bigger picture here like with Twin Peaks for instance, which seemed to be the case for quite a while with all the subtle techniques used occasionally like the way the lights shut down one by one in episode 7, possibly indicating that it's a stage.
After how definitive this last episode felt, with everything just suddenly wrapping up like that... There's just so much stuff left unexplained but it doesn't feel "open to interpretation" it just feels like they rushed the ending.
Still my favourite live action show, but my word did this bring it down from being perfect for me.
