2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
eeeeehhhh
For its time it must have been amazing
in fact that part of the problem
it must have been so technically amazing and such a spectacle and the science fiction so ahead of its time that the ending of the movie and the overall message must have been icing, even if you didnt get it, even if there was nothing to get, or it wasnt anything amazing, the rest was so good you were fine with it.
But if you watch it first time today, the ONLY thing worth anything is the ending of the movie and the overall message.
I dont get it, and i read some explanations, and im not impressed. First, if something has a million explanations, its kinda fair to say it has non. Its so ambiguous that it can mean thousands of things to thousands of people. But then one could argue it means nothing really. The fact is, this was created by humans. They had a clear message they were thinking about, or they didnt. If they didnt, and they tried to hide that fact with ambiguity, not good. If they did have a message and in the end almost noone gets it, and theres lots of interpretations, there one might argue their communication skills suck. Theres a fine dance here, you can either say 2+2=4 plain and simple, but thats boring. Ideally you want to create a compelling journey for the viewer to discover that 2+2=4. If done right its great, if done wrong noone gets it because you didnt lay out the appropriate building blocks that connect to the idea. And when this happens the viewer feels cheated, sometimes wonders if they are stupid, and all in all, the result speaks for itself.
If this movie was done today, i think it deserves a 5 at best.
I have had movies where i didnt get it, and looked online what it means, and i loved it. Here, i kinda hated it. I could be wrong, i could be dumb, but i dont think so, not in this particular instance.
The Batman (2022)
i dont think its a good movie at all
I did not like it to the point i watched only half
i think it fails as a murder mystery, i'd rather watch poirot with david suchet perhaps instead, or if i want an actual great batman i'd rather rewatch the ones with christian bale
i dont have anything too much to say on acting, good actors today are so many most of them are even unemployed, the fundamentals of the movie just werent good. Do we really need more batman movies? Are we really going to help them milk all our loved stories till we hate them?
El hoyo (2019)
It's all about the message
It's all about the message.
The first and obvious message is ofcourse that the people at the top have their way with all the worlds resources and the people at the bottom eat s#@t, some times literally.
But i think the actual deeper message is that in the desert sometimes a little flower can blossom, that can try to fight the nastiness of the world its born in, and sometimes it can succeed in starting something, a semblance of a movement, one that will try to convert the desert into a lush green rich healthy forest. Will the message succeed in getting delivered?
What will you do? Will you perpetuate the s#@t, or try to fight for something better, putting your life on the line?
Will you manage to keep yourself in the process, or will you turn into something unrecognizable, something you perhaps never considered? How far will you go?
Will you be able to live with yourself?
I think that is the message.
Westworld (2016)
absolutely loved first season
I'd give first season a 10/10, second season an 8/10, and third season a 5/10.
I do not give 10 or even 8 lightly.
I find it kind of confusing how supposedly the same people wrote all seasons, as especially the third was quite a letdown for me, i really hope they realize this and do something great for fourth season...
Dune (2021)
very overrated
A good movie makes you feel something interesting or makes you think something interesting, or teaches you something that allows you to grow as a person, or makes you think something that then causes you to feel something interesting.
Or any combination of these.
This is also true for anything you enjoy, were it a book, a lecture on a science topic, music, anything at all in this world that a human might enjoy has at least one of those traits i mentioned.
This movie had non of those traits at all for me, and from what i read for alot of others.
La casa de papel (2017)
one of the dumbest shows ive ever seen
As someone who is a minority in that im fairly intelligent so or my iq indicates, but mostly who really enjoys logic, thinking critically and all that kind of jazz, i am entirely blown away by the utter stupidity, lack of logic, plot holes etc of this show. I could watch up to the first 3-4 or so episodes of the first season before i had to go away and vomit mentally and stop there.
I take it the huge success this show has been is an interesting indicator of how primitive our society still is, and how much it is comprised of apes who enjoy a brainless but decently shot drama that insults all logic and intelligence.
I generally only read reviews and not write them but i guess i was in a mood to rant. One of those days i guess.
Treadstone (2019)
laughable
Im just gonna say this, it might not seem like much but try watching for youself and see how you feel, multiple times mnultiple people just down about 20-30 meters and land as if they jumped about 2 meters.
Captain Fantastic (2016)
Discovered Chomsky
I cant say much for this movie except that its good and i urge people to give it a try if you havent, i personally watched it 2 times, one alone and one with my mother.
But the most important thing i'd like to say this movie offered me, was a kind of happy accident, and that was the discovery of Noam Chomsky, whom i'd have never discovered otherwise (god knows youtube wont reccomend him unless you have already watched him), and for that i am truly grateful.
Penny Dreadful (2014)
I dont really write reviews
But this was really good...too bad in the end they rushed it cus for whatever reason they were stopped short before it was actually time to finish:(
Parks and Recreation (2009)
Couldnt stand more than 5 minutes of the pilot
Read title!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The World at War (1973)
just a simple thing i would like to point out
"X are evil? Y are righteous? These terms have always changed throughout the course of history! Kids who have never seen peace and kids who have never seen war have different values! Those who stand at the top determine what's wrong and what's right! This very place is neutral ground! Justice will prevail, you say? But of course it will! Whoever wins this war becomes justice!"
DD
read into it what you will
