Mama's Boy: A Story from Our Americas (2022)
Brings true hope
10/10 The story simply brings true hope. Than even in such a great divde that we're right now, there is hope indeed and that mending or even building new (some very surprising!) bridges is possible. Made me feel so much more positive and genuinely hopeful in these bleak and horrifying times. Hope, love, stories to share <3 Just go watch it.
It tells a beautifully poignant story of a very remarkable woman and her children. Their falls and joys, their fears, prejudice, but also wins, bonds and happiness. And how that one woman and her strong family values changed the whole nation.
Also an interesting look into how we can be together, even when it seems we could never even sit down at the same table, inspiring.
Mulan (2020)
No, no, no. Just no!
Advertise an epic retelling of a classic, beautiful, powerful story. Make a mediocre, boring maybe loosely based on the original trivial fable.
It is visually stunning and the costumes are interesting.
The rest? Instead of wholesome Mushu we get a mute, blurry useless phoenix. Mulan is good at warcraft through... being a witch and eventually wins through bring saved by another (this one evil) witch. Dialogues are a wierd mix of modern English pretending to be stylised into imperial Chinese customs. Landscapes beautiful, breathtaking, masterfully short... exist and change for no good reason at all. The soundtrack is boring and predictable. The writing and acting? Best let's not about these.
Go ahead and watch if you want to ruin the actual Mulan. Bc here instead of an interesting journey of the characters and main herione, you just get random unrelated characters and no plot. But visuals are stunning indeed.
