Dolly Parton's Mountain Magic Christmas (2022)
Go To Dollywood or Go To Hell?
I don't get it. Dolly has lots of money and mega talent. Why do a Christmas special just for the sake of knocking off another one? This so called special begins with her talking about making a special. Perhaps a throw back to Mickey Rooney's "Let's put on a show" theme. Then she wastes your time with a romp down the streets of Dollywood singing as she goes. It's cheesy as you might expect as she sits and sings with an imaginary Willie Nelson.
The coup de grace was a song in which she stands up and repeats "Go To Hell". Not once but many times. Christmas is a time for family and especially for children. Exposing them to this kind of message is very counter productive and defeats the meaning of love at Christmas time.
I had to shut off the TV after that number. I had just watched her accept a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination the week before and it rekindled my love of her music. If you're producing shows for the sake of the almighty dollar perhaps it's time to consider censoring yourself.
You: Ex-istential Crisis (2019)
What Does Live Do With All The Cakes
She's constantly baking. What's the point? Similar plot points to Season 1. They even admit that this is a Dexter ripoff but I like it anyway. I guess that's because I liked Dexter so much. Down to the main character self narrative it tries to be another Dexter. This season needs a killing soon.
The Affair: Episode #5.6 (2019)
Why Go All Futuristic Now?
The series has a great story line if you can get past all the frivolous in you face sex. No prude here but I know what we do behind closed doors.
The Joannie character makes me cringe every time she makes an appearance. At first I thought I had missed something and that this was a trailer for another series, one that I would have no interest in since science fiction isn't my thing. The Joannie segments go off on such a tangent I can't wait to return to present day and the characters that came to know over the 5 season run.
Without creating a spoiler, they could have built to the investigation without introducing an older and very boring Joannie. I gave this episode the lowest rating of 1 star, but would give the series itself a solid 7.
Dirty John (2018)
I Really Wanted To Like This
Can a woman who achieved this level of business success possibly be so stupid? Her obnoxious children actually understood the bad intentions of John early on but the ignorant woman with 4 prior failed marriages fell for him hook line and sinker. I wish I hadn't wasted my time watching the first 5 episodes. I sit here watching episode 6 like a train wreck that I have to see to it's conclusion. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!
A Christmas Story Live! (2017)
Patriots Beat Steelers in a Nail BIter....then this UGH!
I was actually looking forward to a Live version of one of my favorite Christmas movies. What a letdown when I saw that this was a trumped up "Broadway Show Musical" version. OK so I fall asleep on musicals. That doesn't make me a bad person. The only music in the movie that I recall the family being involved in was the hysterical Chinese Restaurant scene where they're teaching the waiters to sing "Deck the Halls" (with boughs of horry....ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra)...
No laughs here. For those who stated that this was a remake of what was once the original song and dance musical, I guess I should have done my homework. I found this to be a waste of time. I hate to be a Grinch at Christmas time but this was not what I signed up for.
Once Upon a Time in Venice (2017)
Ugh what crap...
I started watching this one with my wife and could honestly only get through about 30 minutes before telling her it was unwatchable. Spoiler- I turned to my wife and said "Someone actually came to Bruce Willis with a script that said you've got a scene where you ride a skateboard naked down a busy road in a chase scene then end up being pulled over by a cop. Next in an effort to hide your gun you have to shove it in your butt crack." Of course, Mr. Willis being the accomplished actor he is replied "THAT ROLE IS FOR ME."
I thought I took out an action flick from the library, which I'm sure at some point it becomes. I just didn't have the patience to wait for this thing to become what I was looking for. As they say, it just wasn't my cup of tea, therefore the one star review.
