Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024)
Lacks a overall story arc
Previous planet of the apes developed in depth stories. Used Ape society as a reflection of human society to tell us the good and bad of humanity.
This movie by contrast was just a series of short, disconnected visuals. Pretty visuals, but lacking in any cohesiveness. Should have been edited down to 90 minutes, or an hour shorter than the run time.
The opening scene are chimpanzees swinging through a decayed human city to retrieve eagle eggs, return to ape village, living in supposed harmony with nature. Could have done this in 5 minutes, not 30 or 40 minutes.
Then the 'bad' gorillas attack. Kill, kidnap, etc. Again could be much shorter. Maybe 90 seconds, not 10 minutes.
Off they go to industrial ape labor camp run by a mean ape, with a short interlude of finding a talking human. The mean ape wants in to a human arms repository. They fight some more, the talking human leads the renegades in and destroys the armory. Ta da! End of movie.
No wait, a twist to come! Other talking humans have holed up in a scientific facility. Movie ends with them repairing some comms equipment and making contact with other humans (on the moon???). Yeah! We are not alone. This twist has nothing to do with the rest of the movie. Is this the hook to get you to come back for the next installment? Who knows.
What a flop.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
tried, really tried. Where are the men?
There's a documentary making the rounds titled 'What is a woman?'. It highlights the pretzel advocates twist into when confronted with the question.
Strange New Worlds should be titled 'What is a Man?' for the same reason. There is not a single character that is a strong, virile, classic man. A Captain Kirk. A ladies man. With some sexual tension. Plain old human sexual repartee and strong leadership.
The series is so over the top with strong women and non-existent men, it is simply unwatchable. Is it Star Trek? No. What is it? I don't know. Won't throw good money after bad.
Hong hai xing dong (2018)
Horrible Chinese Communist Propaganda
If you are in love with the communists in Beijing, by all means, watch this propaganda film.
If you want to be entertained, watch the Matrix, from which this movie copied its special effects.
If you speak Chinese, watch this, because reading subtitles during action sequences just doesn't work. Actually, the movie is one long action sequence and who knows who the characters are, their relationships, etc. Because there is no character development.
There is one black guy, in an Arab headdress, in a tiny motorboat firing a file at an advanced helicopter. Where's the drama in that?
Anyway, get some popcorn and watch for some mindless nothingness.
For All Mankind (2019)
NASA, run by women who stomp on weak men
The history concept is interesting but ruined by astronaut men who cry, pout, and let women walk all over them. Real people don't treat each other this way. I tried, I really tried to watch this show, but Season 2 is killing it for me. It's just too much femin theory for me.
Dark (2017)
Well named
Yes, it is dark, what did you expect? The writing is mostly good. At one point a lost boy enters a police station. After a brief conversation with a police officer, the officer incredibly leaves the boy alone in the station. Yeah right. Not believable at all.
The Morning Show (2019)
MeToo MeHorrible
Acting is great. Production values superb.
Story? Not credible. An anchor who demands the right to pick the new co-anchor, is told no, and then does it anyway? She isn't then fired? Goes on to say she has the power when she doesn't?
The man accused of sexual impropriety claims that men use power to seduce women. That's backwards. Women are attracted to power. Always have been and always will be. No woman in the history of mankind has ever been attracted to weak men.
The portrayal of relationships between men and women is something straight out of a far leftist women's studies program. If you want to see how far left Hollywood has gone, so far that they aren't aware of how unrealistic this is, watch The Morning Show.
Designated Survivor (2016)
Pretentious Hollywood progressive posturing
If you wish Obama was President during the next 9/11 attack watch this.
If you wish to be entertained by some thoughtful exploration of the future watch Star Trek
The Angel (2018)
Based on true story buy who knows the truth?
Some reviewers question did this really happen. Well on April 4, 1973
"Two Arabs made an unsuccessful attempt to attack passengers of an El Al plane at the Rome airport. They were arrested but later released and sent to Lebanon."
This quote is from the New York Times article "Few Arab Terrorists Are Punished for Hijackings and Killings" published on Dec 20, 1973. There is also a Time article that reviews what is documented in history and what is the movie makers creative license.
I enjoyed the movie. Watch it with some popcorn.
Dunkirk (2017)
broken eardrums
30 minutes into the movie I poked my eardrums out with a fork. The movie sounded better after that.
