The Sandman: 24/7 (2022)
Boring filler episode which tries way too hard to be inclusive
At first the concept of this episode intrigued me, but the further the episode progressed the more ridiculous it becomes. On top of that it tries way too hard with the gay people, interracial couples and female CEO and to top it off a transexual as well. Thing which in real life are okay but here it feels really forced. What also felt forced was the over the top violence. All that is just too much and unnecessary.
It's all about characters who absolutely add nothing to the story of Sandman, who are pretty much all unlikeable and pretty stereotypical.
The last part was well done though and pretty awesome. If the episode was a lot shorter and less "inclusive" than this could have been a great episode. It even makes me fear for the rest of the season, to be honest, there's just too much gender swapping, race swapping, gay people, etc. It's becoming a trend and really annoying. It does more damage than good in my opinion.
David Brent: Life on the Road (2016)
Embarrassing and hard to watch
From beginning to end this whole movie was just embarrassing and sad for so many reasons. David Brent (Ricky Gervais) himself is actually hard to watch most of the time. It's so cringeworthy, so annoying, so sad and so incredibly dumb. I felt actually really ashamed for him during the entire movie.
99% of the the characters in this movie are unlikeable: David himself, his co-workers are mostly bullies, his band members are just total dicks and all the other characters David meets on the road are all pretty much terrible people, who either tolerate him only for his money, ignore him completely or are just mean to him. And a whole movie long. There are basically only 2 or 3 people who are actually nice to him but they don't get a lot of screen time.
The movie felt kinda pointless to, it wasn't going anywhere: there's no progress in the story, no redeeming quality, no happy ending, no character development. At first I though it was kinda original to not do the standard: unknown guy struggles to start a band but achieves his goals eventually in the end. But now I'm thinking it could've made this movie a lot better. Atleast it would have some positive message.
This movie felt like a compilation of deleted scenes from a better movie. I really wanted to like this movie, but I don't. I was expecting a funny movie about a pretty awkward guy trying to get his band started. Instead, in the end, I felt kinda sad and dissapointed. I really can't recommend this movie to anyone.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Inescapable (2019)
It's just getting worse and worse
The whole idea of this episode has been done before. Even in newer movies. But here it's just really annoying. Everything sucks about this episode, again! It doesn't make sense, it's just rehashing stuff we already know, it's confusing and full of over the top drama.
So far this whole season has been terrible. I hate to admit it.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Fear and Loathing on the Planet of Kitson (2019)
Dumb, cliché and lazy
All I have to do is explain what happens in this episode to understand how bad this episode is: Daisy and her crew arrive at a planet in deep space because of a egoistic act of Jemma, but all is forgiven very soon. Fitz and Enoch go gambling at a casino. Enoch wants to be BFF's with Fitz and Daisy and Jemma get really high on alien candy.
That's it, that's basically the whole episode. There's nothing in this episode that you haven't seen before, but better, somewhere else and in the end it didn't even move the story forward. So what was the point of this whole episode?
Dumb decisions by everyone in this episode, annoying characters, poor attempt to be funny, non existing character design for the aliens (they are on a ALIEN planet in very, very DEEP SPACE and all you can see is humans, who aren't supposed to be humans but clearly are) and bad dialogue full of cliché.
Hope the rest of the season is better.
The Liberator (2020)
Promise not entirely fulfilled, but still a decent watch
When I started watching the first episode, right at the intro, I got excited for this: World War 2, bloodiest battle, 500 days journey from Italy to Germany. Man that sounded promising.
Although there was a lot to like about this series, I have to say I was just a little bit disappointed. It's definitely not a bad series, don't get me wrong. I would even encourage people to watch it. There was a couple of things that I disliked though:
1. The artstyle: ironically enough this drew me in when I saw the trailer, it looked interesting. But I realized really fast that it didn't really have a purpose, it felt unnecessary and even distracting. Some scenes looked like they had the same graphics as old PS2 games and I thought it was hard at times to keep the soldiers apart. And if you can't keep the actors apart it's sometimes hard to care if a character dies or something. Without the "cartoon filter" I think this would be much better.
2. It felt rushed: they put a 500 day historical journey in just 4 episodes. With a lot of different character who didn't really get their time to shine. Combined with the fact that it's sometimes hard to keep the characters apart, doesn't help. It's hard to keep track of what's happening. I think if they took some more time it would've benefit the story.
3. A lot of things we've seen before and done better in series like Band of Brothers: battles in the snow, being constantly surrounded by enemies, the story of a very loyal captain/luitenant/major, discovery of a concentration camp, etc.
So, in conclusion, it wasn't as good as I hoped it would be, but I have to say that I did like it and if they do a season 2 I will definitely watch it. So I would recommend it to everyone who is interested in WW2 stories, but don't expect this to be Band of Brothers quality.
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
Harley Quinn movie
This movie was different and better than I expected. I kinda expected a all female Avengers kinda movie, but it was not that. This made it its own anti-hero movie where the line between evil and good is really thin.
Although I liked it, the whole movie did feel like a Deadpool rip-off:
Fourth wall breaking CHECK
Over the top violence CHECK
Crazy wise cracking mercenary CHECK
Anti-hero with a small heart after all CHECK
A positive note on this: where Ryan Reynolds seems to be born to play Deadpool, Margot Robbie seems to be born to play Harley Quinn. I really like her version of the iconic character.
The story also has a weird glitch in it: Harley Quinn seems to get away with everything she does: stealing, blowing up a whole chemical plant (!!!), Shooting up a police station, etc. Everything seems to forgiven in the end. Also, I kinda hoped that the Joker or Batman would make a appearance.
The movie looked great, acting was good, fun humour, nice action scenes, story was all over the place, I liked Ewan McGregor as Black Mask and pretty nice soundtrack.
Overall fun movie, better than I expected, tries really hard to be the female DC version of Deadpool. It's good, but I personally like Deadpool better.
The Walking Dead: Here's Negan (2021)
Emotionally one of the best episodes of TWD
Where the previous 5 episodes were boring filler episodes focusing on 2 (or 3) characters, in this episode it actually works really well. It adds to the drama but it also gives warmth and intimacy to the story. I can't remember the last time an episode got to me emotionally but this one did. It was pretty sad and genuine and actually gave the character Negan so much more depth.
The Walking Dead: Diverged (2021)
Yet another boring filler episode
This episode is 100% unnecessary. It doesn't have anything purpose in the story.
Here's the plot: Carol is back in Alexandria and tries to make A soup and Daryl is in the forest and tries to fix his bike. That's all...
It feels like it tries to be a funny episode, but it fails at that to.
It really seems to me like the writers had a contract for a certain amount of episodes in a season but they didn't have enough material to go on. I mean come on, this is the 5th filler episode that doesn't add anything to the plot, which is: Eugene leads a group to the Commonwealth.
Just go to the Commonwealth storyline already and finally end this series. I rather have a short last season in which every episode is good than a long season with lots of episodes like this one.
The Walking Dead: Splinter (2021)
Yet another filler episode
This is the 3rd filler episode in a row. I hoped at this point the main story line would be continued, but nope it's just another unnecessary filler episode that doesn't add anything to the story.
There are so many redundant episodes in this season. Such a shame.
And for some reason they even managed to make the character Princess boring. I know she's supposed to be a little weird, but they took it to far in this episode and made her a mentally unstable person with things that don't even make sense. For example she keeps on saying that 'being in a small dark place drives her crazy', so you might think she's afraid of the dark and claustrophobic, but here's the thing: she's is in a large train cabin which isn't dark at all, and there's a hole in the back so she isn't even really locked up.
Hope they continue the main story line very soon and stop with the filler episodes. I mean, come on, the last 3 episodes could easily be either left out or put in 1 episode. Such a shame, I wish they would learn that more episodes doesn't automatically mean a better show. It's quite the opposite really.
They Shall Not Grow Old (2018)
A good description of something terrible
I have to admit, the first 10 minutes or so I was a little disappointed, I thought: Wasn't this supposed to be colorized? And the voices of the interviews of the real soldiers took me a bit to get used to.
But fortunately the tales told became more and more interesting and from the moment the color kicked in I was hooked.
At the end of the movie it was told that after coming home no one understood the soldiers. Well, I really think this documentary helps with that. The images and stories that are told at least give a very clear no nonsense view on how it was to be a soldier in the trenches of WWI. From the food they ate (and shat out) to seeing your friends get killed and how that affected the soldiers to in the end how it feels to be involved in a big attack.
The documentary doesn't go really deep into the history of WWI, but tries (succesfully) to give you a good look at the lives of these very young British soldiers. It's from their perspectives which, although took me a bit to get used to, is a refreshing take on war documentaries. Tales straight from the ones who were actually there and experienced it firsthand.
Inhumans (2017)
I don't get why people hate it so much
This series has gotten a lot of negative reviews and I don't really understand why. Sure, it's pretty obvious that it misses the budget that the other (and newer) MCU series as WandaVision, Falcon & the Winter Soldier and Loki has. And I think that is also the reason that this series isn't as good as it could have been.
What I like about it:
- It's not an average superhero series, the main characters aren't heroes, they are just people with superpowers who actually dislike humans.
- The main characters have interesting, flawed personalities, as in they aren't perfect, but most of them grow during the series.
- The villain starts out pretty 'grey': his goals are pretty honorable at the beginning: overthrow the caste system and move to a place where there is more space for everyone and give everyone equal chances.
- Pretty much every character is pretty 'grey' actually, none of them are completely good guys or bad guys.
- The location: Hawaii is a beautiful and original location. It's a fresh view compared with New York or something.
What I don't like about it:
- The fact that most of the characters lose their powers or can't use their powers. I feel like there is a really short introduction to the amazing powers the characters have, only to be taken away from them without us really getting change to see them in action. Medusa has full control of her hair and can do pretty much anything with it: and we shave it off. There's Karnak who is strategically so advanced that he can literally see all possibilities of his plans: hits his head and partially loses that power, Black Bolt can destroy everything with his voice: only uses his power like 3 times in the entire series. There Lockjaw a teleporting giant dog: first gets locked away and later hit by a car so he can't do anything or is even seen. And Gorgon has hooves but those are covered up by regular boots. It all feels kinda cheap.
- As I said before: it lacks the budget and style of the other MCU series and movies and it shows. In my opinion: if they had better writers, better SFX, better choreografie and an actual tie-in with the rest of the MCU this show could've been so much better. The impact of the story would have been bigger I think too if we first had have a movie which really showed how powerful they are and see them properly in action. Now it feels like they just chose to take away their powers for budget reasons: it saves a lot of money on special effects.
So, in conclusion: yes this could've been so much better. But it really isn't that bad. It's interesting and different enough to deserve more credit. It certainly isn't bad. I have seen much worse series with higher IMDB scores for some reason. If you like Marvel I would definitely recommend this to give a try, but don't expect the same quality as the newer MCU series.
Rating: 7,5.
Z Nation: Water Keepers (2018)
Doesn't make any sense at all
This season started out pretty good, but it's dragging on again with just stupid random filler episodes. This one is no exception.
The whole spirit walk thing was just so stupid, it just doesn't make any sense at all. It didn't make sense the frist time, but now they pushed it even further and made it far worse. It's just ridiculous, even in the setting of this show.
I have to say, I can't wait till this season is over and be done with this show. Every time I give it a change it just keeps on dissapointing me.
Z Nation: Doc's Angels (2016)
Boring filler episode
This episode was boring and predictable, worst of all it felt like a useless and unnecessary filler episode.
The whole episode doesn't make much sense, the story is pretty lame and it really feels like a repeat of earlier episodes in rhis series, with slightly different characters.
Wayne's World (1992)
Didn't live up to the hype for me
I finally watched Wayne's World after hearing so many great things about it. It's considered a cult classic so I just had to watch it, with Austin Powers in mind I expected this to be one big laugh. Well... I was sadly disappointed.
I thought the movie was really, really boring. There were a couple of funny moments and the way they constantly break the 4th world is pretty cool sometimes, but overall it's just not funny. There are very few jokes as it is, the whole movie is very awkward, doesn't make much sense and is just so unconvincing that it put me off more than it engaged me.
And the acting, I don't know if it was on purpose or not, but man the acting was horrible. There was 0 emotion, again it was just awkward too watch. Especially the main characters were just terrible for the most part.
The story (or better yet, the lack of story) was bad too. There was no real progress in the story, no real conflict, no real resolution or plot. Especially the first half of the movie just looked like a series of random scenes with no real build-up and a lot of times things got set up but never really explored further (for example: Wayne lives with his parents, but you never see them; the character of Ed 'O Neill could've been used more often; Wayne and Garth get in a fight: next scene the fight is cleared up by just saying sorry; Wayne gets fired from his own show but you don't see any real consequences of this) basically every problem/plot point either get's dealt with way to easily, gets ignored or treated as a lame joke. I just felt that the whole movie was going nowhere and even the endings were confusing.
So I don't really get why this gets so many good reviews. It's just not funny, it's awkward (and not in a good way) and it lacks depth and story. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone and might be one of the worst comedies I've ever seen.
The Bad Batch (2016)
It's slow and it doesn't make any sense
This movie started quite interesting and in your face. But not before you first had to sit through minutes of nothing. And this is the problem throughout the whole movie: it's so slow! It's like the director never heard of pacing before. I think that if this was made into a shortfilm it would be much better (if they would also rewrite the story, changed the setting and characters and just went with a simple revenge story with cannibals). But now it seems like everything is so stretched out, but it's so unnecessary.
On top of that, almost nothing the main character does makes sense. Especially in the end. In short: she "adopted" the kid of a woman she killed (who was a cannibal). The dad of the kid wants kid back. Unbeknowst by him he "hires" the girl who killed his wife to find the girl. The kid meanwhile lives a live of luxury after being found by the "big chief" of the town called Comfort. Then the main character finds out where the kid is, goes there, and even gets the chance to live in luxury as well. But no, she kidnaps the kid and brings her back to her cannibal dad in the desert. She didn't save the kid, she ruined the kid's life by dragging her out of a life of luxury to live in the desert with her dad (who even almost immediateley kills the pet rabbit of the kid BTW).
So it's very slow, very stupid and very pointless. I can't really recommend this to anyone. I'm also wondering what genre this movie's supposed to have. There's not enough action to be a action movie, it's not sad enough to be a drama, it's definetely not a comedy, not a horror movie, it's not really science fiction either. What is it? (besides a waste of time)
It has no identity.
