Twisted Pair (2018)
Not as good as Kes.
If you could choose your own AI twin brother, who would it be?
The good and the bad twin concept could be symbolic of the yin-yang duality that exists in every person, as a nod to Robert Louis Stevenson's; Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
The perfect use of the so called "breen-screen" really transports the viewers to an amazing world where everything is possible. Usually I am a supporter of practical effects but Neil Breen reinvents the techniques and makes all the other special effects filled motion pictures of the past 30 years obsolete.
Breen gives the metaphorical finger to the status quo and is not afraid of exposing hard truths.
To every marvel fan, watch this movie!!!
Pass Thru (2016)
Not as good as Lawrence of Arabia!
We as human beings should take notes while watching this epic and beautiful homage to the desert.
The film teaches us about the fluidity of time and the possibility of time travel. This also explains his earlier films and unchronological order and stories that coexist. Actually it makes us realize that we as humanity sometimes live on our own island and close our eyes to atrocities, dishonesty and corruption. Apart from these great lessons we learn how we as humans can survive in a world with Siberian tigers.
The film has several surreal elements that refer to previous art such as jungle book and Salvador Dali's clocks.
Neil breen, the gift that keeps on giving.
Fateful Findings (2013)
Not as good as Brazil!
This movie broke me but it was fun. This movie broke me but it was fun. This director really understands the human psyche, the way he shows the natural flow of conversation between the characters and the importance of repetition to make sure the audience can relate to the story.
The themes of addiction, adultery, technology and suicide are prominent in this film showing us that no topic should be taboo in the art of filmmaking.
By allowing the different storylines and topics to run side by side, the viewer gains insight into the thoughts and beliefs of the creator. Rarely have overwhelming discomfort and humor been so close together
Watch this movie when you can. Act now, it's our only hope for the future.
I Am Here.... Now (2009)
Not as good as The last temptation of Christ
As soon as the movie starts we are left with all these questions. The director respects his audience enough to not just give the answers but to make them think knowing they are smart enough to figure it out for themselves.
The Being descends on earth to teach humanity a lesson or two. Lessons concerning drugs, gang violence, corruption and a disrespect for our environment.
Various techniques such as freezing people create a lively tableau vivant in which the main character moves and life itself comes to a standstill. In addition, there is brilliant foreshadowing that stimulates thoughts about the grandeur of existence.
When the movie finishes the viewers are left to wonder. What greatness did I witness? And where was this movie filmed?
Double Down (2005)
Not as good as requiem for a dream!
From the rock solid character introduction till the end of the movie I was baffled.
Never have I experienced such a cerebrale and overwhelming work of art. The way the director connects loose plots creates a movie that feels as a whole, this together with the great choice of music by the music director brings the movie to an even higher level.
The colour blue is very prominent in this motion picture, the director might have used this to signify the loneliness our protagonist is suffering and the tranquility he is longing for.
Rarely have I seen a film in which the dividing line between mental well-being and complete madness is so sublimely depicted. In this sensational film you will experience one surprise after another. This genius filmmaker wants to teach us something about ourselves and the total barrenness that makes up our current society.
