This one is fun and clever. Has a unique resolution and the monsters are bloody bonkers.
Worth a watch! and some surprisingly ok acting...

Another Soderbergh gem

Really fascinating film with fantastic acting - particularly from Kate Winslet and Jude Law. A very complex narrative that really deals with crisis and our need to blame during such times. The first 3/4th of the movie are truly great but it tails off a bit as the obligatory melodrama comes into play. Great last scene though. Perfect example of Soderbergh's ever-present style that balances focus between characters and narrative perfectly.
The Double Life of Véronique
(1991)
Uninspired movie

My least favorite of the Kieslowski movies ive seen. It follows the same eerily mystical narrative style that his other films do, but this one seems off. The story (if a story at all) lacks a point of view or a stance or anything of substance unfortunately. The movie itself is filmed beautifully and well scored but has nothing else going for it, in my opinion. This is simply because the story wasnt there, the character had nothing to offer as connectivity and it was detrimental to the presentation of the story (again, if any).

A Human story

A Docu style film with great "acting" and a powerful story. Some beautifully insightful dialogue and some great questions posed throughout the story. I was more interested in Antonio and less interested by Pepe but that didnt dampen the experience of the film too much.
Chevalier
(2015)
Clever and funny film centering on male insecurity

Truly hilarious deadpan comedy that is written incredibly well. The writing by tsangari and Filippou, the latter who has co-written many of Yorgos Lanthimos' films, is ever so sharp. The script coupled with some fantastic situational camera work propels the story forward and creates a very entertaining situation which is Chevalier.

The Seventh Continent

Brilliantly built

Incredibly interesting search for the viewer. Haneke presents a sense of dread and challenges you to find where its coming from. He brilliantly frames the world in this movie as bleak and mundane - with the use of coloration, sound and of course dialogue. This accompanies the narrative to brilliantly lead the story. There are some truly amazing scenes in this film, including the 10 odd minute long destruction scene, the car sale scene and of course the final scene. The final scene which includes one of the greatest uses of music in any film I've seen. This film really emphasizes decision making and evokes though about each decisions importance. Not enough can be said about how powerful an experience viewing this is. Deserves more attention.
A simple but intriguing crime mystery

The story itself of this film is a very basic one, but the acting and writing makes it worthwhile and enjoyable. Nyqvist and Rapace are simply excellent and play out their characters perfectly. The ending couldve been a little less happy-go-lucky but a large market film must have an ending of the sort. Interesting and fun with some things you wont find in most films of the like. Also the film wouldve been 10x better if the person scoring it didn't mistake it for the latest Michael bay movie.
Monsieur Hire
(1989)
Underwhelming

An American movie in French for me. Filled with forced sentimentality and melodrama, Monsieur Hire is ever predictable. It seems to follow a template many similar movies follow. Sandrine Bonnaire is lovely as always in a less than interesting role. Skip this movie I'd say, not awful, but more of the same and not very interesting.

An ambitious and captivating film The first half is particularly good for me and enters into the realm of pseudo-horror. The famed character on the front is probably the only scene that doesn't fit in this excellent movie by Haynes.
