No Alternative (2018)
THE MC is the best actor wearing a mission of burma shirt I've ever seen!
But honestly--the acting in this is superb. Sincerely. They gang of both kids and adults is top notch. Perfectly performed. Sincere. Suicide.
7 Splinters in Time (2018)
Wonderful and wondrous!
If you are a fan of wonderful, so real, science fiction with a serious heart see this movie. Everything about this movie is keen, smart, apt, deep and truly special. The acting is superb and cohesive throughout high praise goes to the director. The editing is spectacular and the cinematography amazing, and even made more great by the number of different formats they used...all to full effect. If you like your sci-fi with A touch of the avant-garde then you will love this movie!
The White King (2016)
Beautiful Dystopian Cautionary Tale
This film is exquisite! Dystopia through the eyes of a child and the effect it has on him directly. The film moved me. The acting was spot on. The story was mature. AND the cinematography was vivid and lush. It also made my skin crawl as a citizen of a future dystopia=USA. The characters (and thoughtful ending) are what really resonate. Obviously this is for anyone who loves/likes the Hunger Games but this is smarter in many ways and more subtle...and more ambiguous...it the right way. This film makes me continue to love Jonathan Pryce very much. BUT Lorenzo Allchurch as Djata is a true discovery. He simmers and shines in this. His acting is superb and I could see him as the star of many Angry Young Man films in the future. Strong work by the Directors all around.
Drawing Restraint 9 (2005)
false fake pretentious unoriginal and mr barney should apologize to jodorowsky
This film is massively boring and pretentious. There is only one good moment when a sailor shaves Mr Barney's(think the purple dinosaur-less pretense) eyebrow. The music is relentlessly cloying-it is sad that Bjork, someone with so much inner beauty, has been brought down to pretentious falsity in her art. The pomp of the tea service makes a beautiful ritual seem vapid. the mythology and culture are not respected in this film they are lifted. Not just from Japanese culture but from another filmmaker...(stay tuned) In a perfect "art imitates life" moment-the crew of the ship finds a giant piece of sh*t. Which is what the audience found in the theatre. There are some set pieces which are very composed and arty without heart---then
prepare for spoilers-I'm talking to you MR BARNEY.
The Emperor has no clothes! Mr. Barney you have been outted! I have seen Jodorowsky's HOLY MOUNTAIN. And your thin, fake veil of BS has been lifted. You have stolen your images your style and your ENTIRE ART CATALOGUE from this man. Now that HOLY MOUNTAIN has been released FINALLY let's hope the powers that be at the Art Councils of the world STOP FINANCING YOU! Poor Jodorowsky-lost in a financial battle with the Beatles Lawyer when he is the Lennon/McCartney of film-making. And BTW while Jodorowsky is the Beatle-YOU ARE THE MONKEES! A cheap thin soulless rip off only liked by facile kitschy college freshmen. And BTW I am a filmmaker. If you are interested in making a reality film-I will legally fight you in a ring defending Jodorowsky-you, defending outright thievery.
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (1973)
MY God please PROTECT AND HELP ME!
The director of this film should be given an award for the most hell evoking, stomach shredding horror film ever made...and then hung. I saw Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark on TV when it first aired-I was scared to death...no I was scarred to death. I have never been the same. When thinking about this film or experiencing it I start to feel as if my stomach is going to come out of my mouth from extreme terror filled panic. There is something under my bed-there is something under your bed-there is something from hell trying to get you and me and it is shown in this movie. God please guide and help me through the darkness that is this movie and its unnamed chilling monstrous horror it evokes. There is a scene in the bathroom where the small creatures come out and let me tell you that I have seen them out of the corner of my eye ever since. In the week after seeing this film I had a dream that in my closet there was a portal to hell and that I had accidentally left my closet door open-because of that, creatures from hell had escaped onto earth. I awoke and nailed my closet door shut and did not pry it open until 1984. This is a fact. It should be illegal to show your children this film. There is nothing that compares to this gut wrenching, wicked scare fest.
For Love or Money (1993)
The Best movie to see in Hungary
I was on tour with my friend in Budapest. The Concierge was on one of the only two English speaking channels in the hotel. We watched it 5 times in a row. We then went out to eat at a vegetarian restaurant that was also a college. We then played a concert, returned to the hotel and watched it 5 more times! I am not kidding. This movie is terrific and very comforting and nice. See it over and over again like Breaking Away, War Games, Alien or Contempt. MJF is very sincere in this film. I have never forgotten it. Not in the same way I have never forgotten Don't BE AFRAID OF THE DARK! Beware of that movie. This is the perfect MJK film it is like the first BTTF movie or the Frighteners in that it has a sincere cohesion. This is a small unsung film but will be celebrated in the future as a classic.
